And, one word in particular comes up again and again: FABULOUS! My husband and I could not agree more! We were paired up with our DJ, Abay Israel, by DJ DC Productions. Before we even talked about music, Abay wanted to talk about us. We met with him well in advance of our event, and the majority of our one-hour meeting focused on my husband and I as a couple, who we are as people, who are friends are, who will be attending the wedding, and the overall feel that we want to create. In discussing our needs for ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, Abay was extremely knowledgeable about our venue and what type of sound amplification we would need. After our initial meeting, we kept in communication with Abay via phone and email, and we felt comfortable and confident that we were in very capable hands. Additionally, he communicated in advance directly with our ceremony musicians to arrange their sound needs as well, which I consider another mark of DJ DC Production's professionalism and service. When discussing our goals for the evening, we made one thing clear: We wanted a party! Abay delivered just that and so much more!! We provided song suggestions via the DJ website, but when it came down to it, Abay read the crowd and delivered on every level - Keeping the crowd dancing and pumping them up with the help of his hype man, Jamall Bufford. I would recommend Abay, Jamall, and the DJ DC Productions crew to anyone looking for a fantastic and professional DJ! I wish we could live that night over again! - - It was truly a BLAST! He has clear passion for dancing and for sharing his amazing gift with others. He also has the right ATTITUDE to be an effective instructor. Patient, understanding, knowing how to work with "room temperature IQ" types who are "legends in their own minds", and effectively dealing with Fred Astaire wannabes with two left feet, Dorian gave all the people in the class COMPETENCE and CONFIDENCE, when it was clear that he was so, so, so much better than those in the class. I simply cannot give a stronger recommendation to this outstanding teacher. He is a fabulous dancer with loads of talent but makes everyone feel that they are making good progress. If I had to select just one person to teach me ballroom dancing for an important event (holiday party, wedding, etc.), I would entrust that awesome responsibility to Dorian Deaver. It is similar to recruiting Michael Jordan or LeBron James to teach a basic high school basketball clinic. Damn! You simply cannot do better. We were having an afternoon wedding and were trying to keep costs low. The reception was only 3.5 hours long... I needed a good price in order to actually book someone. I already had a few quotes and wasn't impressed with any of the prices, so what did I have to lose? I went to their website to do some research and gave them a call. I got Brett, who was incredibly friendly over the phone. He totally understood our situation about having a DJ but gave us hope that there's good DJs out there willing to give a good price on a Sunday wedding. We met him at a local Starbucks to sign the agreement. He went over every section of the contract in detail so we completely understood what he was responsible for and what we were responsible for. And he was incredibly friendly. His personality type gets along with everyone. I love people like that. He accepted payment through Paypal, which was incredibly convenient for us. His website was really intuitive, with detailed forms for us to fill out with details about the ceremony, the timeline of the reception and even a music form so we could choose what songs we wanted him to play. On one of the forms, I made it clear what music I didn't want to hear and he totally stuck with that at the reception. One thing I totally appreciated was how Brett was willing to do the outdoor music preceding the ceremony for no extra charge. He even called me the day of the wedding to make sure I was staying calm (rain on my wedding day when the ceremony was supposed to be outside... of course I wasn't calm.) But it was a nice gesture. The ceremony was moved inside and Brett was awesome with the change of plans. He still played our processional music, jazzy music during dinner and finally dance music after dinner was served. One detail we totally loved was that Brett wore a pink and purple tie so he matched our wedding colors! Small detail that made a big difference. Everyone told me they loved our DJ. Some people even thought he was a personal friend of ours because he was so friendly and personable while on the mic. He played the exact music that I wanted to hear at my reception... classic rock with current dance hits mixed in. It's like he knew me my whole life with the way he nailed my musical preferences. My husband and I had seen Rick perform at 336 Main in Plymouth a few years back and decided we wanted to hire him when we got married. Wow - were we not disappointed! If you think he sounds good in a noisy bar - just wait until you hear him in a quieter space...an outdoor wedding reception tent perhaps? Amazing! Like I said before - this guy is definitely super, super talented and really knows how to work a crowd. Rick was the life of our reception and made the entire evening a smash success. Nothing phased him - from singing the last part of our first dance together a capella due to a popcorn machine temporarily blowing a fuse -to- masterfully taking requests from the crowd (including knowing how to handle requests from young girls asking for him to play Justin Bieber songs) -to- playing multiple instruments at one time and even dancing a final dance with our guests. We'd hire him in a heartbeat for any future event...and our friends and family can't stop talking about him. He was even so masterful with his mixing that some people thought he never took a break the entire night. Thanks so much Rick - you're pretty darn awesome :) BTW...we've also heard good things about Rick's band - Ultraviolet - if you're looking to spend a little more money and hire a full band to really impress your guests. Our event only had around 100 people so we decided the band might have been a little too overpowering for our venue.
