Royal Ace is my go-to hardware place if I need something quick and close by in the Richmond Hill area. They have a decent selection of hardware, paint supplies, tools, and other handy stuff too. There's no doubt the prices are higher here than they are at Lowe's or Home Depot, but that's to be expected with a small place like this. Every time I've been there the place has made it a point to ask if I needed any assistance, which is good because it usually takes me awhile to find what I need. Whenever you walk into this store, someone is always there to greet you. Jody, I believe was his name (my memory can be a bit spotty and its been a couple days since I visited the store so I may have forgot), caught me at the door right when I walked in asking if I needed help finding anything. And for sure, I did. He was helpful in finding me what I needed. I came back on the same day because the size I got for the tool I needed was a tad too big, but he was right there at the entrance again there to help me. The younger folks working here are friendly and helpful, but the older staff is aggressively unfriendly. Given their pricing and narrow selection, it seems like they should be trying harder. The demographics are changing and the clients they want to serve (old, white men) are going to be harder to come by. Not going to waste my time coming here ever again. read more

I went looking for a part for the toilet - could not find any so got a different part. asked at the check out if he could help me with the part, and he said "Should be on the wall" didn't even volunteer to go and look with me. Just bought the more expensive part. I also asked if they had dark mulch, and the other casher piped in no, we don't carry it. (with a not good attitude). The town wants us to support the local businesses, but I won't go back to that store. Will drive further to Lowes from now on. read more

This is my favorite hardware store. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Cheapest prices on guns and golf carts. I was impressed and will continue to shop there. I highly recommend this store to other shoppers. Conveniently located in the center of Richmond Hill behind the Hardee's. read more

Was extremely upset to realize that the owner of this establishment would give my estimate to fix my golf cart to the mother of the boy who stole it and flipped it. They are friends and he not only went behind our back and gave them the estimate before us but told them we were trying to screw them. I've always shopped local, even bought my golf cart from here. Took a golf cart there for an evaluation. No mention of any diagnostic fee or anything and no copy of an estimate invoice. Jamie Royal called me on and said the golf cart would need a new frame at an estimate of $1500. I decided to not replace the frame but to have the frame welded instead. I went to pick it up and was told by the cashier that there was a hold on it for a charge, so I asked to speak with Jamie. He came out and was hostile from the outset, as I asked him what the charges were for. He told me it was $85 and change for evaluating the cart. I asked what the shop labor rate was and he said it was $75/hr. So I commented that it took more than an hour just to tell if the frame was rusted through and I thought that was high. He told me that he had a business to run with other expenses, insurance, etc., that he charged. He then got visibly upset and said forget about the charge and let's just go and I can take my cart and leave. I told him that I never said I wouldn't pay I just wanted an explanation of charges. So, we started out to the cart and he then told me just take the cart and never come back here again. I asked if that meant for anything in the store and he told me yes. I told him I had been a customer since moving here in 1994 but that didn't even register with him. I took my cart and left. I could not believe this "hot head' even runs a business and with Customer Service skills that bad cannot imagine he even works there, let alone is one of the owners. So, good riddance, Mr. Royal and I will take my business elsewhere. As an addendum, I called EZ-GO golf Carts and the frame is only $655, so I truly feel he was trying to overcharge me and when I didn't go for it he got very agitated. Advice to ALL, steer clear of this business. read more

If your vehicle gets 20 mi/gal then it will cost you half a gallon in gas (right now that's less than a dollar) to drive past ace and go to Walmart and come back. The items/materials here are made in the factory in China next to the one that makes stuff for Walmart, but Ace is priced 3-5 dollars higher per item. $25 in town delivery charge is insane considering the actual cost to them and the business they are in (Lowes will let you rent their flatbed for $20/90 minutes). They sent me to Lowes twice for very standard items they don keep in stock. They might look local... Don't buy into it. Box stores employ many times the number of people, have a large range of manufacturers for any one item (more of a market than ace which carries only one or two brands of anything), and their wholesale purchasing makes items cheaper for you in the long run. I don't care where you go, but I warn you that you will leave ace still needing items. read more

This is a great local Hardware Store. The guys and girls who work there are super friendly and can really help you when you don't quite know what you are looking for. This store is much better than the big box stores like Lowes and Home Depot. I will only go to one of the big home improvement stores when I can't find what I am looking for at this store. Also, there is a very pretty woman named Anette who works there who has the prettiest eyes I have ever seen so that is another reason why I go in there, LOL!.
