Its the towns only four star hotel, and it shows. Its located away from the town centre and is unremarkable looking from the outside (and even the lobby) the rooms and facilities offered are clean, comfortable, well maintained and modern. Theres a pool, a number of bars to choose from and a very well equipped gym which is also open to non residents. Food - either in the restaurant, at the bar or via room service, is very good and the staff have a rare quality in Scarborough - they understand they're there to look after customers and act accordingly, and are always dressed smartly which adds to the impression of professionalism. Conference facilities, if thats your thing, are also superlative, and while you pay for the service you receive, if its as good as this, then there shouldnt be many who can have a problem with it. Highly recommended hotel.

Ideally located on the Eastgate, just on the periphery of Pickering town centre, Grindale House…read moremakes an ideal base for exploring Pickering on foot for shopping during the day or sampling one of the multitude of restaurants of an evening. The main entrance is on the Eastgate (on foot only), whilst vehicular access is to the rear, through a seriously small gap between two terraced houses, requires absolute concentration! This leads into a spacious gravelled car park surrounded by pleasant gardens. Grindale House has several self catering lets, as well as the majority of bed and breakfast accommodation. As we arrived we were met by the friendly owner who served us a cup of tea and a biscuit in the resident's lounge, after our long drive - a nice touch. The lounge had fantastically comfortable leather sofas, a large flat-screen TV and resident's guide recommending places to eat and visit. After ascending some rather precipitous stairs, our room was modern in décor and tastefully furnished, a little compact perhaps, but with good facilities - tea and coffee making facilities, HDTV etc. The bathroom had underfloor heating too, very nice in the winter! The breakfast room doorway and many entrances throughout Grindale House have low beams, courtesy of the age of the building; so be careful if you're tall! The breakfast room was modern in feel and felt spacious when the guest house was partially full, but quite cramped when it approached full occupancy later in the week. Breakfast wise, there was a good range of fruit juices, cereals, fresh fruit etc. The Full English was great, perfectly cooked and full of flavour, the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs strangely bland and the pancakes just right. All in all though, a great base from which to explore North Yorkshire.

We booked a family room as we were travelling with two children so were given the Suite, a very nice setup with a living room a double room and a twin. Only found this place as the other more obvious hotels in the area were full, happy I did. The whole place was spotless, the welcome was great and the breakfast the next day was better than any 5* hotel I have stayed in. The only fault I could find was the bed was a little hard for my liking but that's just a personal preference. The best part was the price, what a bargain. Would definatly recommend this place to anyone who is visiting the area.

This was our 4th stay and it goes from strength to strength. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the linens and soft furnishings are top notch and the atmosphere is comfy. The ownership obviously takes great pride in their business and it shows. We have stayed at many other places in Scarborough including The Crown Hotel which is consistently named the top hotel in town but believe us, THE MANSION HOUSE IS THE BEST ACCOMMODATION IN SCARBOROUGH.

First of all let me say that this is most likely to be the best hotel in the region of Bridlington…read moreand Filey. It has a progressive attitude and is a welcome departure from the typically OAP centric area. I really do want this place to strive on for future awards and not rest on those past achievements in the eighties. We stayed in the standard room with breakfast on a three nights for two deal. The hotel, restaurant buildings surround a gravel courtyard for parking and there are plenty of spaces. The first impressions are good and the hotel has an air of class about it. The reception is not always manned but with a slow yet friendly start we were set. Our standard room was described at reception as 'spacious', it was most certainly not. However upon comparison with the other rooms on the fire plan it was one of the larger rooms. The size is adequate if you are tidy and organised. The bed although small was indeed comfortable and was the best part of the room. An attempt to keep the design contemporary and clean had been made but there was a lack of attention to detail. The windows locks were missing, the bathroom lamp flickered if one sat on the toilet and the bedside lamps were fitted with old fashioned non-energy saving bulbs, one of which was broken upon arrival. Faults were reported and remedial action was undertaken that very day. The consistency of this service was undermined by the fact our room was not serviced at all for one of the three days, I can only assume the cleaner has Sunday off. The breakfast is delivered in an elegant surrounding and your place is already set for you. The menu seems at first limiting especially on the continental side of things. The service is excellent and our requests were catered for and remembered day in day out. The grilled breakfast is generous and if a high standard. The adjoining restaurant 'Azzurro' is a well laid out and design conscious. Service was prompt, friendly but not over fussy. All of the starters bar the Gamberoni were a little overly constructed. The typical quantity explosion occurred, the stuffed Romano pepper starter at Pizza Hut could teach them a lot. Simple flavours, small plate, done well for the price. Instead my stuffed pepper (Pepperoni Ripieni) was drowned beneath a bowl of melted cheese and filled with a mundanity usually reserved for little chef. On to better things however. The (Filletto Sfizio) Prime Fillet, Mushroom, Truffle, Dolce Latte & Cream was superb and cooked to order very well although a little more medium than rare. This dish although the most expensive deserves your attention. Don't let the pizza oven steer you away from this. The pizzas that were ordered although crispy and authentic on the outer base were overloaded with topping which in turn made for a moist inner base. To conclude, the hotel and the Azzurro are laid before you as a potential masterpiece and I am sure that on occasion all the notes are hit but for me, the admission of room servicing for one day supplement to the repair state of the accommodation let's that potential remain exactly that.

It was a vast improvement on what we had just seen. The owners were lovely and showed us a few rooms before we picked one and paid for it. It was conformtable with decent space around the bed with a good view and was ensuite and had tea and coffee. The floor boards creaked abit as they tend to do in any older building. The breakfast was lovely - well cooked and well presented with ample choice of hot and cold, traditional breakfast as well as kippers or porriage (or vegertarian cooked breakfast) - so would suit all tastes. The staff are friendly and helpful and are happy to give advice on where to go. You also have the option of booking evening meals and they do have a licence to serve alcohol in a small bar area. We have been going back once a year ever since. The only downside is now it is getting a bit pricey as you pay per person not per room so there are less expensive B&Bs available in the area. They do have a web site you can check out.

What I love about this hotel is that no two rooms are the same. Each one has its own distinctive charm & character. For this particular visit, I was lucky enough to get Room 9 down at the end of the property that overlooks one of the main traffic arteries into the heart of Malton. That said, this hotel is a series of interconnected buildings that are at least a few centuries old! No elevator (lift) here; you're gonna have to navigate some stairs. But it's all part of the beauty of this place. The restaurant here showcases the fact that Malton is The Foodie Capital of Yorkshire. All the ingredients are locally-sourced and super-fresh. Definitely try the English Breakfast! No wonder Charles Dickens would come to Malton to escape London! And it's highly possible he stayed here, as Chancery Lane is literally across the street and features the office used as the model for Ebeneezer Scrooge. Cool history! Also, back in the day, the Onassis family would rent out the entire hotel on their visits to acquire Thoroughbreds, so there's a very good chance Jackie stayed here, too!

Tom took our bags to the room and then doubled up as Bartender in the evening. He was polite and helpful and I only wish management would buy some martini glasses then he could have made me really happy. This is what I call an old school hotel. the hotel room was spacious, the staff friendly and the building had lots of nooks and crannys. Manage your expectations and you wont be disappointed.

The hotel is situated on the roundabout where the A169 meets the A170 -- so it's certainly very accessible. There's a dedicated car park (accessed from the A169) where it's usually possible to find a car-parking space. Inside the hotel is well decorated and very pleasant. The restaurant serves all the things you'd expect it to, and the quality of the food cannot be faulted. It's probably slightly above average pricewise, but then you get what you pay for It's opposite the Crossways hotel and part of me fears than during the economic downturn only one of these two great hotels may survive. If so, Pickering would be robbed of a great place to eat.
