If I could give this place a zero, I would. I stayed here about 2 weeks, and when I say this is the worst hotel in the area, I mean it. The owner, Jimmy, does not empty out the trash, does not throw away the trash, does not give you trash bags, does not give you more towels, does not clean the sheets, does not give you more toilet paper & is lazy. He expects you to provide all those essential needs I previously mentioned. He also tried to tell me when I was allowed to take a shower. He told me I could only take a shower early in the morning before 7. He charges the same rates as the other hotels in this area and does absolutely nothing. He should be charging $60 if that since he just doesn't want to work. He cussed my young son & disabled mother. The hours that's posted on his door, he's never there. He has older women in and out of the office and you can tell that he's having sex with these women. He has had a young worker the last time I stayed who stole stuff out of peoples rooms. Jimmy didn't fire this guy either until this guy stole from him personally. You'd have a better experience sleeping in your car than sleeping here. Not to mention the room smelled really bad and had stains all over the floor. You could tell that he doesn't clean the rooms at all. Stay away from here, and if you know anybody tell them to stay away from here. Unless you like to throw your money down the drain and sleep in disgusting rooms with bedbugs. read more

Great place to stay for a great price. Stay here often. A good base station for exploring nearby waterfalls. Would recommend.

This is a very clean and well maintained motel! I'm very impressed! New carpet in our room new tile in the bathroom. Clean sheets, clean towels! The owner/Manger does a great job keeping this place up! Keeping in mind this place was built in the 1960s so it's a little dated but I would and will come back! Oh the price is very reasonable also! I spent 4 nights here in February for a solo snowmobile trip and I chose this motel because of price and the reviews. The motel was clean, smelled good, and the staff was friendly. I asked for a room at the end to keep my snowmobiles out of the way and the manager set it up. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating was because the bathroom was outdated and needed some updating. The hotel did offer a free continental breakfast but it was unavailable due to covid. read more

After driving 2,500 miles to get back home, I stopped here for a week while my home was waiting for me. Very friendly staff, Liz, the owner, was very accommodating, prices were very reasonable, everything worked perfectly, simple, continental breakfast every morning. Liz's mother was a joy to chat with, had beautiful stories that she shared with me daily. Once she found out I was a drummer, I knew I had a friend for life. If you're coming from out of town, if you are visiting our beautiful town, please, consider the Royal Motel. You won't regret it. Thanks again, Liz, for everything! read more

New owners as of May 2018 and I think they have spiffed the place up from older reviews. Free WiFi and continental breakfast. New 40" TVs. Pet friendly with large area in back for them to go. Room was clean. Owners were accommodating and let us see room prior to committing. Tip for the ladies: only one outlet in bathroom and no hair dryer. This didn't bother me but wanted to let others know. I think the outside could use a little attention that would make it a little more welcoming but overall we were satisfied with this choice, and I think the owners will only continue to make improvements. This clean little motel was exactly what we were looking for! The bathroom is very retro and cute. The king sized bed was comfortable. The owner is a pleasant man and very friendly. It's convenient to Hurley, WI as well. We enjoyed our one night stay. read more

I gave this motel five stars because it was a welcome retreat after a long day of traveling and totally exceeded our expectations. The rooms are clean and quaint with no smell or bugs. You can tell the new owners really do their best to take care of this place. We were very happy with the comfortable bed, hot shower, and continental breakfast. Ignore the earlier reviews. As of June 2018 this has been under new ownership. Very nice couple will accommodate you in this 1950s style hotel. If you're looking for old her mother and then you will like it however it has a nice breakfast excellent Wi-Fi take screen television and the rooms are comfortable and do not smell. We would stay here again anytime. We very much suggest you stay here as well. This is truly a mom-and-pop motel and they're working hard and it was a nice place to stay. read more

Stayed 2 nights without heat in room. The thermostat read 56. Left a message with the hotel about the heat and it was never fixed for the second night. Also very poor water pressure and no maid service. read more

I had a lovely stay here for 3 days. The rooms were very clean and the back windows can be open for fresh air and have screens. The owners were very friendly, interesting, and I had enjoyable breakfast chats with them. The rooms are a bit dated, but I found them homey and charming, and surprisingly roomy. My booking.com account was compromised. A reservation was made at this motel under a name that was not mine. A male name. The booking was a no show. My credit card on file was charged $69. I called booking.com and explained the situation to them. They put me on hold while they called the "royal" motel. After several minutes they got back on the line and explained to me that the royal motel either "did not believe or did not understand" what they were trying to say, and that they were unwilling to refund me my money. They advised me to call myself. I called. The person on the other line was cold, ignorant, and completely unwilling to listen to anything I said. I said my credit card was used without my consent, to which they replied "that's not our fault". I explained that my credit card being used without my permission is also not my fault. They asked what I wanted them to do, and I said well I was hoping you'd refund my money given the circumstances. They flat out refused to help me whatsoever, and told me I needed to dispute the transaction. I did. Booking.com was more than willing to provide proof that it was a fraudulent booking, and my bank had no issue going and getting my money back. In your face. I highly recommend staying at the Cedars or the Budget Host if you're in the ironwood area. Those motels actually care about customer service and always go above and beyond for their guests, whether current, future, or otherwise. This situation was not an inconvenience to these people, they simply saw a way to take my money and jumped on it, regardless of the circumstances. This isn't the first problem I've had with this motel. I previously booked with them on booking.com and had my reservation canceled because they were already over booked. I was left with nowhere to go. Evaluate your principals, and learn how technology works. read more

Me and my daughter where staying at sister hotel called snow country in Hurley wi.when we got to our room we found bed bugs everywhere.so went to front desk and this older man says he go back and see with me but he was rude told me it was imagining even showed pic of them on my phone so he got mad told me he take me to his other motel so OK even tho I knew not too but late at night no choice.then get to royal and the older lady was even more rude to me and daughter saying its late to be moving daughter this time of night wow .so get room no bugs but really dirty and smell was horrible found food containers under bed with molded food two molded cookies between fridge and wall so that's gross cleaning that they said vary clean rooms .then in morning the manager has all kinds of family yelling at there kids and guys sitting outside my window taking and swearing these people need to stay home and talk I pay to stay but didn't matter I guess family comes first not guest if looking get no rest smelly room and bug bed stay at these hotel promise you won't forget ugh gross read more
