Out of all the escape rooms I have been to in Edmonton, Breakout is near the top of the list…read more On the outside, Breakout doesn't look like much. It's in an older strip mall across from the Doubletree Hotel; the windows are all covered up. When you walk into Breakout, it doesn't look like much, either. It's kind of dark and it doesn't have a very "welcoming" feel, but the people who work here are pretty friendly. Sometimes you can't judge a business based on the outside. We chose to play out "The Bomb" scenario and it was actually pretty cool - Our team was split into different rooms which makes for a very different challenge compared to other escape rooms I have been to. I won't give much away, but if you are going to do this room, make sure you have a very strong team (and people who aren't afraid of small spaces). One thing we found interesting is that Breakout and Escape City have a Loyalty Card together - you can purchase it from either business - which offers you 20% off for the cardholder at both Breakout and Escape City each time you visit, your first game with it is free, and you get to play for free on your birthday (or within a week of your birthday). I would definitely return to Breakout, but I will be trying one of the other rooms. Hopefully they are just as great as this one!

I came to Breakout Entertainment last week with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday!…read more We did the "Cube" room which was released about a month ago and so far there are no escapes! We got about 3/4 of the way through when time ran out. I honestly don't know if we could have solved it in another 45 minutes... We were stuck! The staff were fabulous and kept us entertained while waiting to start our game with brain teasers. At $25 a person, the entertainment value is pretty decent and it's cool that they have a wall of fame wall with best times and of course ever changing escape rooms to keep you coming back. I will definitely be back!

My husband and I went to see First Date in February when it was playing. Show was decent but not…read morewhat I would say memorable. It is one of those cute Valentine's type of shows that they play that time of year. Fairly predictable but enjoyable. The service we recieved was excellent considering that it was a buffet but the servers were attentive and our water and wine glasses were always topped up. Buffet is large and extensive. I normally dislike buffets but here they are well executed. Salad bar, a small seafood session (didn't enjoy the sushi rolls), cheese section. What has changed is instead of the prime rib station was replaced with a striploin and beef brisket station. I tried a piece of each. They were certainly not stingly. I am surprised on how much I enjoyed the striploin. But for a girl that doesn't like sweets, I love the Mayfield dessert choices. They are bite size so you can try a selection. I always get the rice pudding. So for a fairly predictable night out for both food and entertainment, which you won't be blown away but you won't be disappointed, try here.

We have been going annually to the Mayfield for our wedding anniversary for over 10 years now…read more Until now, we have been very happy with our choice, except perhaps for the time they did improv. This year, we happened to go the first week of the new season, Simon and Garfunkle. The show was excellent, the two singers channelling Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle perfectly. The only fault I could find with the show was that the drums were inappropriately loud. I have S&G vinyl that I just played to prove that my memories of the 60's are quite correct: The drums on the original are very subdued. The likely cause is that the program had a long resume for the drummer. Likely his ego was as puffed up as his resume. Where we were disappointed was with the dinner. It's always a buffet and excellent if you arrive as soon as the doors open. This time, we chose the brisket from the carvery and found it quite dry. The baked desserts were stale, as if they had been saved for the month the MDT was closed. Everything elsa was freshly made, salads and the items on the steam tables. Another problem was with the air conditioning. My wife complained that it was too cold in the theatre and was told that nothing could be done about it. Thankfully, the staff brought her a fuzzy warm blanket that she was able to wrap around herself. Before the show started, I looked around and another man in short sleeves was wrapped up as well. There had been a late summer heat wave which would have required cooling one or two nights before. The MDT should have been able to adapt more quickly. Hopefully when our anniversary rolls around next year, the MDT will be back on its game.

Avoid, avoid, avoid…read more The five-star reviews on Google for this place were likely paid-advertisements. I can't imagine anyone having that sort of experience based on the exceptionally poor communication, ridiculous policies, and ongoing incompetence in running a business, not to mention completely missing the mark as far as any sort of "schooling". 1. we signed up for a two-session "try-out" -- clearly committed to only that much. For the second session, our child was exhibiting signs of covid, so given their caution (masks were still required in early 2023), we opted to reschedule. Not only was there a make-up fee, it took NEARLY THREE MONTHS to schedule the make-up session. In retrospect, we should have just sent him to that session and then not had to deal with this ridiculousness. 2. Penny (the owner) claimed to have messaged us multiple times in response to voicemails we had left. We verified the number she was messaging -- it was our LANDLINE. No wonder she wasn't getting a response... a normal person would have made a phone call! 3. the overall outcome is cookie-cutter and hardly unique. It certainly is not instructional in value, nor is there any creative outlet. 4. their blatant disregard of City of Edmonton signage bylaws is shady at best, and pollution of our neighbourhoods at worst. 5. their prices are out of control. The $20 for "custom framing" looks to be the same frame as I bought at Ikea for $5. I can not say this strongly enough: AVOID THIS BUSINESS.
