I have been to Royal Oak Dental for many years. Lynn the Dental Hygienist is wonderful, professional, always a good experience she is true to her calling. There are some good office staff also. I went to Royal Oak Dental yesterday to have a temporary crown removed and a new crown put in place. The person that was to remove the temp crown started working on me but it was painful and I didn't know what to expect . This person was tugging at pullng the temp crown off pulled back with the instrument she was using and cut my lip she was not aware she did that until she saw the blood. I didn't have trust in her after that. Treat a patient like a person not a machine. I eventually had a numbing agent . Dr Smith is very clever and I believe he is good at what he does. He finally came along and gave me a perfunctory one liner that could infer I was responsible for this injury. He did what he had to do with the crown and stated he would come back when I had numerous xrays. Dr Smith never came back he must have got too busy. read more

Had a cleaning scheduled and woke up in the morning throwing up. I called in to reschedule and was literally scolded like a child for wanting to cancel. I understand that cancellations are difficult for the company but they do happen. They charged me $100 for cancelling which I paid. My family used Royal Oak for over 13 years and this event caused us to find another dentist. Do yourself a favor and find a dentist that doesn't try to punish you for getting sick. read more

The office is always spotlessly clean, and every room has sinks, handsoap, hand sanitizer, gloves, & paper towels in abundance. They aren't just present; they're used appropriately. Josie, the dental assistant, and Dr. Smith are gentle and reassuring. Dr. Smith is the master of painless dentistry, as well! We are new to the area, and when my son had woke with an impacted wisdom tooth causing him a lot of pain, I googled and called Royal Oak. The front desk staff is patient, understanding, helpful and they understand that an individual is in pain and must be seen. I am so pleased that we trusted Royal Oak to handle this. Less than 48 hours after his initial appointment, Michael is post-op and resting comfortably. He is amazed at how Dr. Smith and his wonderful staff treated him and took away the pain (and 2 whopping huge wisdom teeth). We highly recommend them. They were very customer service focused when we went in for cleanings for the family. Very interested in getting to know us. Very interested in telling us their story (the dentists are veterans who served together and decided to open a practice together when they got out). But that's not important. That's normal stuff. Let's talk about today, shall we? 11am my phone rings. It's the high school and my son has had his tooth knocked out. I head over to pick him up while my wife calls the practice. They give her instructions for caring for the tooth and she calls the school to pass it along. Turns out it wasn't actually a knocked out tooth, it was shattered. (Turns out, it wasn't that either.) I get to the dentist and they tell redirect me across the hall. Check ups and cleanings are in suite 200, but the real work is in suite 203. The receptionist was charming and came out to sit with us while the staff cleaned up a room from an exiting patient. Two dentists with two other staff members spent the next hour with us (taking shifts to see other patients). Their bedside manner was great. They took care of my son incredibly well and calmed him right out of his panic attack. Turns out that both his front teeth were broken, so the two pieces he had weren't a shattered tooth but pieces of two different teeth. They were able to bond them back together as it seems the nerve wasn't touched. (It was like a late night infomercial using a black light to set the bond). In any case, they could not have been more wonderful. We felt like we were in the most excellent hands the whole time. They tag teamed different parts of the visit because of where individual talents lay. And all this with no appointment. I feel incredibly grateful to them and to my wife for picking them as our new practice a few months ago. read more

Thoroughly disappointed with the level of customer service and dental care. I was a patient of Dr. Pyle in Durham NC he sold the practice and I stayed on as a patient. Durham location has has several docs in a short period of time. Absolutely no continuity of care from one to the other. Went to the Cornerstone practice to have a problem corrected that was actually created or aggravated by the Durham office. I received a cursory visit and a proposed care plan to correct the issue created and/or aggravated by them. I was promised a partial credit for the previous services received to help offset the cost of the new fix which was almost 4k. They promised to call me the following week. I was never contacted. I reached out to them and was told they would get back to me shortly they never did. Took my money and gave me lousy dental care and even worse customer service. read more

Estimates were not accurate often get surprise after service .. do not study enough on timeline restrictions e.g. crown covered every 7 years in my plan. I honestly hate giving bad reviews but this is sooo deserved. I had been going to Dr. Higgins (previous owner before Royal Oak bought him out) for over 10 years. He was excellent in all areas. I was sad to see him relocate out of Raleigh. I was happy that most of the staff would be staying. Pam, Lisa, and Lorrie are awesome! I went for my first appt. with the new dentists/owners and it was different....and not in a good way. Lisa was now gone, Pam seemed different/unhappy, and they have some disrespectful and cocky manager named Gene. My wife and I were told we had cavities. She had 2 separate places on a single tooth that had to be filled and I had 1. Its very apparent that these new dentists have little experience. Their work was both painful and shoddy. My tooth hurt for 6 weeks after the filling and both of my wife's fillings FELL OUT within 6 months. Needless to say we went to another dentist and got them done correctly. These Royal Oak guys are going around town buying up small dentist practices and jacking up the prices. Beware. Yours might be next. read more

I've been a patient for over a year and I'm very happy with the service provided. Our insurance allows for four cleanings a year and these are the best, most pleasant experience ever with any Dental practice. They also found a problem on xray and recommended an oral surgeon who corrected it. They're currently replacing a very old filling with a crown and the prep work was easy and I've not experienced any pain or soreness as I have in the past. Unethical behavior by telling you unwarranted procedures are required. I visited a friend in Dallas, TX who is a Dentist and been practicing 15+ years. While visiting recently, I asked him to check my teeth. He explained that I really have very good teeth and healthy gums but could use a cleaning. I booked with Royal Oak for a cleaning 'special' they advertised. Before they cleaned, they wanted to x-ray and probe for pockets. They probed deep enough several times to cause extreme pain and pushed below the bottom of my teeth pockets. Afterwards, they actually said my teeth were fine, but I had periodontal disease and cited a few 4 mm pockets. I explained to the dentist the probe pushed deeper than the pocket and caused a misrepresentation. They insisted I had periodontal disease. The practice lacks ethics and tries to take unneeded measures for you to pay. Don't go there as you will regret paying for unnecessary procedures along with unwanted pain!!! read more

Went here after a bad experience at another local dentist. I saw Dr.Ansari and Maggie who made sure I was well taken care of, comfortable with what I wanted for my teeth, and didn't try to push any invasive procedures on me. They let me know about what other options I had that were less costly which I appreciated so much. I left feeling so happy with my teeth and I know I will be back to see them again. Said I owed $250, then changed it to $432 and then billed us for $864...this appt was a year ago. They are a SCAM and like to use people for their money!! With that being said, when Royal Oak learned of my dissatisfaction they reached out to seek resolution. I had my first visit with them today since my less than flattering review. After my visit today, I found it necessary to give an updated review. The staff was very professional and courteous. Dr. Smith's chairside manner and professionalism were top-notch. I had a lengthy very intricate procedure done and they were absolutely caring and professional during the entire process. Any company can handle great reviews but how you handle negative reviews speaks volumes. They treated me with dignity, and respect and delivered quality patient care knowing that I had posted a previous negative review. This speaks to their level of professionalism and ethics. She needed root canals, implants and crowns. Dr. Kofford, Cathy, and the rest of the team put her at ease right away. They walked her through the process step-by-step, keeping her informed of every little detail. Dr. Kofford took his time with my mom and made sure to give her exactly what she wanted. She hated her smile so much, that I can't find one picture where her smile shows her teeth. Now . . . she can't stop smiling and she feels more confident! She is ecstatic with her new smile! Absolutely outstanding! This dental practice has excellent dentists, hygienists and support staff. Everyone works together to make a wonderful experience for me, the patient. My dentist and hygienist go over my dental needs in great detail. Immediate needs are dealt with promptly but I also have a plan for maintaining my teeth to stop future problems. And there is a plan to improve the 'look' of some of my teeth, should I decide to do so. I've already have some 'improvement work' done on my front teeth, which were chipped and uneven. When we stopped going to our regular dental practice in Raleigh, I thought I'd never find a good dentist nearby. Boy, was I wrong. We've had nothing but great service from all of the dentists in this practice. The hygienists are fantastic, and the dentists are so friendly and accommodating. They go out of their way to be helpful and thorough. They saw my son immediately when his teeth were accidentally broken at school. He was so upset and scared, but everyone in the office was so sweet and helpful. They put him at ease, and they put us at ease, too. My daughter has always been skittish about going to the dentist, but she isn't at this office. They know she's sensitive, and they treat her so kindly. Going to the dentist is stress-free. The office staff always greet us with a smile and offer us drinks. They are great at explaining the cost of procedures, and they are so knowledgeable about the dental plans and what we should expect to pay. The dental staff is so thorough. They go above and beyond to be so thorough. My son and I had mouth guards made, and they went out of their way to make sure they fit properly. It's nice to know they value accuracy and service. I've never written a review of a place before but this place is so awful that I needed to share. I have been going there for years because it was convenient but I will never go back again. The some of the dentists are quite rude. Also they have now screwed up my two fillings where they have both come out or debonded within a year due to their errors when putting them in which is completely unacceptable. The other reviewer that said they seemed unethical is pretty spot on. This place made me hate going to the dentist! Seriously find another spot. read more

Like this place, I had amazing urgent service before vacation, never forget that Dr. coming in at weekend to see my urgent situation (when at that time I was not even a customer - I'd just moved to region). Since then has been a series of treatments ... they are friendly ... have all the latest technologies ... only question would be improving the 'ledger' sync with payers ... but I think that is an industry common problem. read more

I recently had a part of crown replaced. The actual cost I had to pay out of my pocket after insurance was 3 times more than what they told me. When I left the dentist office I asked them if this is all I have to pay and they said yes. But I received additional bill for almost $600. I don't like dishonest people. read more

I cannot express enough gratitude and appreciation for the staff at Royal Oak in Cary. I have severe dental anxiety, and an extremely low pain tolerance, which generally prevents me from going to a dentist at all. I unfortunately had an accident a few weeks ago, and broke a tooth, which forced me to seek out a dental office for help. I am so glad I picked this location because everyone has been incredible. The front desk/reception staff is amazing! Brenda was happy to answer a million questions and never gave me the "look" of did you really just ask that? or "Are you done yet", but she thoroughly answered my questions, and was so nice and understanding. The dental assistant Jessie immediately bonded with me and put me at ease. She did an amazing job of calming my nerves and helping me relax through the procedure. She was extremely personable and easy to talk to, and she just had a way of calming me down, from her calming voice and constant reassurance, to the jokes we were cracking back and forth, she really made me feel comfortable considering the circumstances. Dr. Smith did such an amazing job at restoring my broken tooth that you cant tell it was ever broken to start with! Because of their incredible patience and constant reassuring and comforting words, I was able to build up enough nerve to make a 2nd appointment for a full cleaning to see how that would go. During that appointment I met Dr. Egan during the general exam. Dr. Egan is by far the most personable and caring Dr. I have ever met. Not only was he encouraging and easy to talk to, he answered all of my questions, and didn't make me feel dumb for asking them. During the exam, it turned out that I needed a filling, which I just had that procedure completed today. Remember the part where I have severe anxiety and a low pain tolerance? Well Dr. Egan must be magic because today is the first time I have EVER been able to be calm enough to go through a procedure without some kind of sedation/anxiety meds, AND, get this.......when he gave me the shot, I didn't even feel it. Jessie was there assisting him, and she kept talking to me in a calm manner, and I kept waiting for it, I knew it was coming, I saw him inching it closer and closer, but I never felt a thing! How he did that I have no idea, but I will make sure that anytime I have to go back for any kind of dental work, I will make sure my appointment is with Dr. Egan, and I will specifically ask for Jessie to be the Dental Assistant for my appointment! The two together are amazing, and I sincerely can't thank them enough for everything they have done for me! I will be their patient for life! read more
