My AC had been running a bit warmer than normal so scheduled an appointment based on the rest of the reviews. On day of appt, Kyle called to say he was running early and to see if that was ok which was even better for me. Cool guy to chat with, checked my furnace and AC and showed me the difference between mine and my neighbors (condo building) and how their line was much colder. Explained that mine is older and needs a special kind of fluid, warned me about the price before he went and got it, and gave good advice should I have problems in the future. There was a sound coming from what I thought was my furnace. Made an appt and 2 gentlemen came and identified the noise as coming from an exhaust vent. It must have made me seem like an idiot. I asked how much it would cost and they quoted me $650 (though he stepped outside to make a phone call to his guy about prices). They were very nice guys so I couldn't believe they'd take advantage. Later I checked on prices to replace the motor and ended up buying a new motor for under $50. When I called back and asked why his quote was so high he said because his hourly rate is $175 per hour. I ended up hiring another friend-recommended HVAC person (bonded and insured) who charged me $65 per hour. I'm a teacher at an urban school who makes little money. Why would anybody want to cheat someone like me? read more

We moved into our new home and found that most of our finished basement was unusable. Our HVAC system was installed about 8" from the wall with a cold air return opening into the main area. The main area consists of a full bar / kitchen, a listening area for music and 2 bedrooms and a bath. The problem is when the fan, heat or air was on the cold air return sounded like a "Shop Vac" making it impossible to listen to music or even have normal conversation. When we'd have family in they could hear it running in their bedrooms behind closed doors and found it hard to sleep. For almost a year whenever we used the downstairs living area we totally shut off the HVAC but unfortunately the rest of the house suffered durning the winter or summer months. Long story short we called several highly rated companies that had lots of feedback but they only remove or install. The guys a Royal said, "No problem". They came out and gave us reasonable bid, scheduled us the following week and spent 3-4 hours in the basement. They closed off the obnoxious cold air return and diverted it into one of the bedrooms and billiard area. Now the "Shop Vac" is dead quiet in ever area. Unbelievable difference...Truly. We are still baffled by the difference months later. We now entertain quit frequently and would highly recommend Royal Heating and Air. These guys were the best. Our furnace went out during winter break. They came out and explained the issue very thoroughly and showed me what they had to do to fix the furnace. They ordered the part and came back to install it as soon as they could. Our furnace was working while we waited for the part but was iffy on whether or not it would stay on due to the part. They offered to leave space heaters or come back and deliver space heaters should it go out while waiting for the part. They were generally concerned for our comfort. Extremely polite and timely. I noticed around midday today that my furnace would not stay running, and the indoor temp had dropped 5 degrees. I called Royal's Heating & Air, and Joe answered the call promptly. After describing what was going on, I was told they would be to my home within a couple of hours, and sure enough they arrived in that time frame. Joe's son Nick came in, and diagnosed the problem within a few minutes. He showed me the part that had gone bad, and put a new one on in a very short time. The best HVAC company I have ever used. Excellent service and price. Ray showed up on time, did a thorough job assessing my furnace problem and was able to figure out that a loose wire was to blame. I had another company charge me over $200 for the same assessment then they incorrectly told me I needed to replace a gas valve for another $500. I cannot recommend Royal's more strongly. I hired them a few months ago for an AC tune-up through Angies list. Then, last week, my furnace stopped working. Joe and his crew were honest, complete, and we have heat. I had called another company and they recommended a fix (replacing the controller board) that wasn't needed. I trust Royals will do the right thing and not try to sell you something that isn't needed. We called Joe to take a look at our swamp cooler. He called to make sure it was OK to be early and was prompt to the minute. He and his assistant were able find the multiple problems with our roof unit and explain all the options. I'm sure they figured out I knew nothing about AC systems but did not exploit my ignorance. As they worked, they found almost every part of the unit needed to be replaced but kept me updated on what needed to be replaced and the cost. While his assistant continued to work on the roof, Joe patiently explained the new fixtures they installed and how to shut the system down for the winter. After a few hours, the system worked like new and the house was cool again. Joe had to make a couple trips to pick up replacement parts but only charged labor for the time they were at the house. The total cost was several hundred less than what I expected so we are exceptionally pleased! read more
