While our food was delicious & the runner was great our server was very "chatty" with tables. This wouldn't be an issue except it was busy. I listened to her story of how she was spending Christmas many, many times. We never got refills, my meal was missing the coleslaw and after taking the order she never stopped by our table. We ordered burgers, fish and chips, and a cinnamon roll. Burgers were good, but they undercooked the fish. It was not fried long enough so the batter was not fully cooked inside. I read so many great reviews about the bun, but for the price ($8) I wouldn't buy again. It was okay! Servers were very friendly! read more

There are a lot of roadside restos that could learn a thing or two from Roy's. The staff were friendly, the place was clean, and the food was a good step above your regular roadside grub. Loved the Sloppy Joes smothered in hearty house-made chili. They definitely hit the spot during a day on the highway. The little things can go a long way, and I think where Roy's really won me over is when they served my drink in a frosted mug. Simple, I know, but it was appreciated, and a step above the regular. How can you not give this place a 5 star? We were a family of five, we had the salmon Caesar salad, fish & chips, fettuccini Alfredo, bruschetta (this was really Devine-the balsamic vinegar added an incredible flavour and the warm bread loaf was great). Everything was made from scratch which I could tell as this is how I cook too. Our beautiful waitress Marie K. was really lovely and multitasked 6 tables very well....she was super kind, efficient and went out of her way to assist us who had never been there before. I had a few special requests to our meal (appetizer before meal, beer in a chilled mug with a twist of fresh lime) and she was more than happy to cater to my requests and didn't make me feel like I was asking too much. We tipped her 15%, she deserved every single cent. I cook ALOT with 3 teenage boys and this food was so much better than what I've ever made. I'm a great cook, this place was fabulous. At the end of our meal, We shared the cinnamon bun for the 4 of us (its dinner plate size) and it was REALLY out of this world. We got their early for an early supper (4pm) and the waitresses were busy cleaning windows and really washing down chairs...this is so nice to see a clean restaurant. All the staff seemed to enjoy their jobs and were happy to be there. That was really out of the norm. They also worked as a team and when our waitress was busy with her 6 tables, they all pitched in.....how kind. I spoke with the Philippine cook and complimented him on the meal....he is obviously someone who really knows how to produce flavours and taste and every single one of our meals was Devine (I don't give this label lightly). I hope the owner is giving the waitresses at least minimum wage. This place is very busy and the staff could sure use it. I would go back to this place, over and over and over again. read more

So happy we found Roy's! After a long weekend of driving the adorable atmosphere and friendly staff was a welcome change of pace. We also found the wall hangings quite amusing as we awaited our meal. I had the veggie skillit - it was Devine! There were plenty of vegetarian options on the menu which is refreshing (even though I am not a vegetarian I do not eat meat at every meal). My partner in dine had the Belgian waffles with fruit. I managed to steal one bite before they were devoured. Even the coffee is good here! Highly recommended for the hungry traveller. read more

Excellent customer service, very friendly staff. I had the daily special - the Canadian Burger and could also choose between a daily soup, salad or freshly made fries. Stop in whenever we pass thru. Food is always good with a family restautant menu. Its always busy from open till close so it can be a little bit of a wait but its worth it. We have enjoyed Roy's Place a few times. They serve typical diner food with an old school atmosphere that is quite charming. The kids LOVE their huge cinnamon buns! My friend really enjoyed the dill pickle soup. I have lots of dietary restrictions and they made me an amazing mushroom burger in a lettuce wrap. The fries were crisp and fresh, and the service was quick and friendly. It's a convenient location when traveling between Lethbridge and Calgary. Will certainly stop again. read more

Wow. Great food, great price. We were driving by after a camping trip and I remembered the feature of this place on the Food Network show "You've Gotta Eat Here!". So we stopped in for lunch, and they sure were right - You DO have to eat here! Nestled in the tiny little town of Claresholm, this place is down home cooking for sure. We ordered two sandwiches and an appetizer plate of onion rings to share with my husband and 11-year-old daughter. We had SO much food it was crazy! What value! The clubhouse sandwich was by far the best I've ever had in my life. It was clear that they had roasted a turkey with sage and thyme and then carved it to put lovingly on my perfectly toasted bakery bread. Thick cut bacon, red tomatoes, and a side of fries that were obviously "just a potato 5 minutes ago" - they were that fresh! The patty melt was also excellent - lots of fried sweet onions and a very tasty burger patty. The onion rings didn't look like much when they arrived, but the batter was light, crisp, and so flavorful that I would totally get them again! We also ordered rhubarb-strawberry pie a la mode after our enormous lunch. It was a modest size, but a very unique crust that had way more flavor than your typical Tenderflake. The enormous size of vanilla bean ice cream was more than all three of us could finish, and I've never known my daughter to leave behind ice cream! Roy's Place was a real road-food find! The exterior is uninspiring but the food and the people are beyond wonderful. The service was fast and friendly. The summer menu features lobster grilled cheese sandwich that was fantastic - the lobster tasted fresh and there was lots of it. We washed it down with Canadian beer. I'd been to Roy's Place a year or so ago and had a great meal - a great club sandwich with fabulous dill pickle soup and a cinnamon bun that changed my life. Today I was driving through town again and couldn't get the thought of that cinnamon bun out of my head so I stopped by and they were closed! Thinking maybe they were opening again for the dinner crowd I called, and the owner explained that because the kids of a few employees were home sick, he'd closed for a couple of days to let them stay home and take care of things. Which is amazing, in and of itself! When I mentioned I was just calling about their amazing cinnamon buns he asked where I was - when I told him I was in the parking lot he told me to come in, and he gave me six cinnamon buns to share with the colleagues I was driving with. The food last time made me want to stop again, but the sincere kindness the owner showed to his employees and the extra mile he went to ensured I'd stop by every time I'm in Claresholm. And if you can, you should too - seriously, that cinnamon bun is AMAZING. read more

My friend had watched a show that featured Roy's Place " You Gotta Eat Here" . She wanted to go and try two of the items featured on the show. The Dill Pickle soup and the Cinnamon Buns. So we made the road trip from Calgary and headed south for about an hour. We were not disappointed. The waitress Mackenzie M was very friendly and helpful. Suggesting a light meal if our intention was to eat a cinnamon bun. We decided to split our dishes in two so that we could eat less but still get to try a few things from the menu. With some trepidation we started with the Dill Pickle soup. Wow surprise, we both really enjoyed it. You could see and taste the dill and got the full flavour of the dill pickle taste. An unusual soup flavour that packed a punch. Next we had the golden beet and soft goat cheese, pecan salad. The lettuce variety was really fresh and crisp, dressing which we drizzled over it all was nice light and fruity yet added to rather than hiding the flavour of the beets, cheeses and pecans. On to Mahi Mahi tacos, with a side of fresh made fries and gravy. The tacos were excellent accompanied by a fresh home style salsa and topped with some sprigs of fresh parsley. We were getting full so barely touched the fries ( hand cut with the skin still on and clearly never frozen) and gravy again clearly made from scratch dark, thick and rich with lots of nice solid flavour. Finally the piece de resistance. The largest cinnamon bun we had ever seen. Topped with an ice cream scooped size of caramel flavoured cream cheese. Try as we might we could not finish the cinnamon bun. Not to worry my friend took the rest home to her guy. It was a fun little road trip and we now have the perfect place to stop on the road to or from Lethbridge or points south. read more
