He was friendly, professional, quickly found and fixed the problem (he comes prepared to solve a variety of problems), cleaned up after. I had hot water an hour later. All this for a fair and reasonable price. Also, on the phone he was able to give me a ballpark estimate so I wasn't left guessing. I see no reason to go anywhere else. PS I actually called them a while back when a "hair wig" broke in my new pipes and slid down the drain, I was worried it would collect debris and form a clog and they reassured me that it probably just went out to the sewer, but if it ever does clog, he gave me an estimate. Didn't charge me a "house call" fee knowing things would be OK, and they have been for 3+ years. I may have even called them a 2nd time without hiring when the valves to my outside pipes sprung a leak, but my BF fixed it... again Copper Pipe was patient and not annoyed at my calling without hiring, said I could get them in if we couldn't fix it. So when my hot water heater broke and I needed a professional to fix it, I knew who to call. It is a great feeling knowing I have a plumber I can trust (competent, fast, won't rip me off) who can help me tackle any plumbing problem I have, and lucky for me they are only 5 minutes away. Because plumbing issues happen, and they always feel like an emergency.

I commented that $1400 seemed pretty high. He pulled up the cost of the sump pump on his device. The sump pump the technician installed was $350. He said that if I provided my own pump I would be charged $600 to have them come out and install it. So, my question was, what are the additional $450 for? I am ok paying it, if I know what I'm paying for, but the information from the technician just wasn't adding up to the full charge. I reached out to Five Star to ask for an invoice. It came with a one line summary of the total cost of the work. I asked if they could please send an itemized invoice and explained the reasons I just mentioned above. After a bit of insisting, they forwarded my request to the manager. This was his response: ---- Hi Veronica My name is Garrett and I am reaching out to you regarding a sump pump we did for you on Sunday. I understand there was some confusion about the charges, I am here to help! So as far as a full breakdown goes, We pay around $350 -$400 for the sump pumps, and labor comes in right around $600. The remainder of the charge goes towards our 1 year workmanship warranty, administrative tasks such as tracking, scheduling and being a support system here for you if anything were to happen with it. We stand behind our work 100%. All of our pricing is flat rate, so breaking it down can be challenging in the sense of the charge does not change if we ended up taking longer to install the pump for you. We do it this way for the customer experience, as some plumbing companies do charge per half hour or hour, and can exploit the consumer by 'taking their time' so to speak to run up the bill. We always try to be transparent with our pricing, and just know that we are here to stand behind the workmanship and product we installed for you. That is literally the cost of a brand new pump!! I'm not sure how that doesn't sound ridiculous to you! I also pay the $40 monthly "membership" but there doesn't seem to be much benefit in that either. It just seems unusual that a company refuses to provide an itemized invoice for work performed. I am sure that if you had work done by anyone, you would hope to be able to see what you are being charged for. I need my heating and air unit replaced but I am very glad I had the sump pump experience first. There is absolutely no way I will have Five Star do any other work for me, especially not a high dollar repair! I will find another company that is honest and isn't so hesitant, or flat out refuse, to provide an itemized invoice. It's just a disappointment.
