I frequent RPM every week or two and have been for the last 3 years. I travel for work (Chicago, Dallas, Orlando, etc) and always make time to hit a local vinyl shop (or three). I am happy to say that I have not been in another store that has the quantity and quality of vinyl as RPM. Riley, Kirt and Cade are all awesome and have significant vinyl knowledge and insight! Another plus is that RPM must have a solid reputation for estate collections as I've found albums there I never thought I'd find in Traverse City. My brother, an audiophile from Naples, FL, has been in the store a number of times and always remarks how lucky we are to have such a great audio asset. And note, Leland is the true head of the team as he strolls the aisles to ensure customer satisfaction. Lastly, they have carved a nice niche for classic audio gear - you will almost always find vintage Marantz, Pioneer, et al, fully restored. Where do I begin... Rebuilding my vinyl collection and enjoying every minute of the process. Visiting all sorts of vinyl stores which are surprisingly more common now that people have returned to this medium. So much inventory and so well Organized. I mean, this is amazing. If you know what you are looking for, it's easy to find it if they have it. The 45rpm selection is fantastic and so well catalogued. I couldn't not buy some great additions to my collection. $181 worth vinyl and worth every penny. read more

The kind of store you can go and spend hours in if you're shopping. The repair and sales of hardware is delightful. In the Detroit area, there's plenty of stores but this one has a great charm matching a nice selection and prices that seem more than fair. Everyone was chill, talked with the guy in the hardware/repair area about a few things and he was friendly and approachable. Would go back anytime, they had a nice mix of new and reissues with enough used stock that is in good shape. The walls feature some specials and box sets and expanded collections. Incredibly well stocked and organized. I was pleased to find a rare album that I had been prior looking for on eBay. This wasn't a expensive item, just hard to find in a record store. We live down state but are in the area often. I found RPM when they were at a previous location. Being a long-time collector it's increasingly harder to walk out of a record store with something in hand. I'm not sure I've ever left RPM empty handed. BEWARE! This is a great place to pick up some records. Good selection and it's nice to support a small local business. However, beware if you are looking at purchasing equipment. I recently went in to purchase a record player, not wanting to give my business to Amazon.com and was sold a player that I since discovered has the worst reviews on all consumer websites. The speaker ports had broken springs so I went to RPM to return it (and hopefully purchase something nicer) but the person working there blamed me for the broken element, would only exchange it for the same player and told me to "be more careful unpacking it." This is NOT the customer service that I expect. Don't sell people garbage! I'm really disappointed with how condescending this person was and I am definitely not recommending that anyone buy equipment or ask for advice from these jerks. read more
