The office is conveniently located on Route 130 in East Windsor in a dedicated building with private parking lot. Upon check-in, I was greeted by Dr. Patel who informed me that the practice is a paperless office. There was no form on the ugly brown clipboard - he took my dental insurance card and drivers license and took care of the rest. The exam room is modern and features a flat screen TV where you can view X-Rays and photos in real-time. Appointments can be done using the office's email and text messaging systems. Love that! Most importantly, Dr. Patel is an excellent dentist - my procedure was comfortable and he checked throughout to make sure that I wasn't in pain. Dr. Patel is very personable. No underachiever, he also holds a DDS degree from NYU with honors. 5-stars!

All I would say is my Mom is extremely satisfied with the doctor, his work and his friendly nature. My Mom keeps on mentioning that Doctor had to take her tooth off and the entire procedure was painless. Dr. Gaughan never does any unnecessary dental work and is extremely thorough. There is no dental hygienist at this office, which I also love, as Dr. Gaughan is the only person who ever touches your teeth. I have Celiac Disease, and am extremely limited with what I can ingest, dental products included (gluten hides in everything)! Dr. Gaughan took the time to research all of the products he uses, and he even blends me a special gluten free polish to polish my teeth. I am so happy that Dr. Gaughan is my dentist. This was our family dental practice for a very short time. Although we were satisfied with Dr…read more Gaines' initial consultation, and the cleaning we received, once it moved past that, things were dissapointing. First, my wife went in for a broken filling. She was seen by Dr. Lee, who is a lot less experienced than Dr. Gaines. The recommended treatment was a dental onlay. A temporary one was placed initially, however it fell off within 12 hours. After calling in, the administrative personnel suggested that we go to a pharmacy and buy over-the-counter cement and reattach it ourselves. Strike one. Next, my wife finally goes back for the permanenet onlay. The doctor did not proactively show her how the onlay would look (i.e. how close was the color, etc). After the onlay was permanently attached, my wife saw that the color was substantially different from the rest of her tooth. It does not look like a single tooth. After raising a concern to Dr. Lee, she was told that it was the best that they could do. Furthermore, the shape does not flow smoothly from the natural tooth, so it protrudes oddly and rubs against her inner cheek. All in all, it just looks like something was bolted on. It doesn't look like a normal single tooth. Plus, it's not functional. Floss and food are getting stuck as well. She was told to return in a couple of weeks, but it seems inadequate to allow a patient to leave the office unsatsfied and having to suffer for 2 weeks after paying more than $1,500. Strike two. So she calls and wants to see Dr. Gaines. He can't see her for a month. The administrative personnel act rudely when she asks about an earlier appointment date, saying "do you want us to cancel another patient's appointment for you." When we ask for Dr. Gaines' email address to be able to communicate to him how his employees are adversely affecting his business, they refuse to do so. Strike 3. So, we're moving our family to another practice in Princeton, with great reviews. Time will tell if it is any better, but this one is certainly not worth it for us, even if it means having to spend more out of pocket.

Don't get me wrong, she is a great dentist: passionate about patient care, extremely meticulous, and highly intelligent; and while I use her for all my dental needs, it is her treatment of my sleep apnea that motivates me to make the two hour round trip from Philadelphia for my care. If you are interested in more details, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in my late twenties and had been on the CPAP machine for years. My pulmonologist recommended a person - I won't mention his name but he dedicates his entire CENTRAL JERSEY practice to DENTAL SLEEP MEDICINE. My experience was awful: the mouth guard he created didn't fit property, it was painful to wear, and didn't treat my symptoms. After weeks of getting nowhere with him I threw it in the garbage and went back on the CPAP. A few years later I started seeing Dr. Ahuja for general dental work and mentioned this experience. She really wanted me to give a dental appliance another try but I had no interest; however after some prodding and offering to only charge for the lab fees I gave it another go. The first thing I noticed is Dr. Ahuja mixed her plaster by hand instead of using the pre-made stuff. Secondly, she carefully examines the mold and if it is not to her standard she will redo it (she did my top teeth twice to get a perfect impression). One week later I got the mouth guard and it fit absolutely perfectly. Ever since that day I have been off the CPAP. In attempt to give a complete and honest review, I will mention one potential negative. Unlike the so called expert I initially visited, Dr. Ahuja only handles dental insurance, not medical. Therefore if you are trying to get the appliance covered by insurance, you would have to attempt that on your own. That being said, her prices are extremely reasonable; and considering the product she produces, worth every single penny. If you have sleep apnea and are a candidate for an oral appliance for treatment, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you consult with Dr. Ahuja.

The practice was sold to Simply Beautiful Smiles (and apparently now the Smilist.) At first the highly corporatized organization was acceptable, but I'm beginning to have my doubts. I was told I needed a "deep cleaning" for gum disease, although, having had gum disease at other points in my life, because of poor practices that I improved in response to the disease, I have observed no bleeding when flossing, or sensitivity in recent years. The "deep cleaning" didn't strike me as particularly different than any other cleaning, but it did involve a rather large out of pocket expense, which I paid. I was not told that I now needed to come in - for the rest of my life - every four months, and that I now need to pay for a special cleaning each time I go. I grudgingly paid, but again, it didn't strike me as different than any normal cleaning of the types I've had regularly for my entire adult life. I also had to wait quite a long time in the dental chair to get it; about 40 minutes. It didn't strike me as particularly different than the cleanings I've had over the last 30 years. In fact the hygienist said my teeth and gums looked good. I did not spit out any blood with the cleaning. Before the cleaning, doctor there - there seems to be a different one each time I go - looked in my mouth for about 45 seconds, said I had plaque and needed to come every four months. That was it. This conflicted with the statement made by the hygienist. I'm not confident in what I'm being sold. Unlike earlier years, my teeth never bleed when flossing. I haven't noticed any problems. They have my dental records for 30 years, and I'm not sure how and if these records can be transferred, but I am thinking of getting a second opinion, hopefully at less corporate practice. They have high technology, but I'm not sure if the goal is generating revenue rather than providing good or excellent patient care.

In my past, I had many experience of tooth extraction which were not much painful, but this time was different. The oral surgeon was Dr Brian who did at The Smilist office (or The Simply Beautiful Smiles of Lawrenceville). If it is so much painful because of its location or some reason, it should be done at whole body anesthesia or having sedation pill or something effective one.
