The manager/owner came over and greeted us and explained the differences between a German restraunt and an Austrian one. He suggested the Wiener schnitzel and we both ordered that. We walked us through their wine list and we took his recommendation on an Austrian white that was very good, paired well with the schnitzel and was reasonably priced. I visit Germany A couple of times a year and would say this was probably the best schnitzel I can remember. Fork tender and great flavor. We decided to sit outside, but because it started to drizzle, we went inside. We paid for our drinks outside and brought them in with us. The waiter was not friendly. Asked if we had paid for our drinks, I said we paid outside. I'm not sure if he believed me. When he finally came to take our drinks outside order, he seemed irritated with us. We got our drinks and order our meals. Our meals arrived very quickly and everything was wonderful. However, upon closing our bill, the waiter got very angry with me saying something about good service and no tip. We are literally in Germany where you don't tip. It's a cool place to see, but I'm not sure I would go back.

The spazle portion was enormous and loaded with gorgeously caramelized onions and cheese. Jaegar sauce was packed with mushrooms in a brown gravy and the Balkan were fresh chopped onions, a flavorful red sauce and a white sauce with fresh herbs. Amazing amazing. We got across the river to the Latäng District with no traffic at all - this must be what it's like when people are happy to use public transport options. The restaurant is covered in wallpaper of old photographs from the founding proprietress, Paula Kleinmann. Oma means "Grandma". The original photos are back with her family when the business was sold in 2023 to the Wolf and Küther-Jankovic families, who still operate it. Grandma Kleinmann passed away in 2009 at the age of 95, but her recipes live on here. The menu is simple - it's all schnitzel. We ordered a regular veal schnitzel with mushroom sauce and a Viennese pork schnitzel with "curry ketchup" so that we could better understand the difference. As far as we can tell, the meat for the Viennese pork schnitzel is sliced thinner and the batter doesn't fall off when you cut it. The meat for the regular schnitzel is thicker as its its batter, so pieces tend to crumble off when you cut it. Both were excellent, so it's just a matter of preference. Our son preferred the regular schnitzel and I preferred the Viennese one. I'm only sad that we had to leave leftovers on the table, but we really couldn't eat another bite. We like that they made non-alcoholic drinks. Our son had the blackcurrent spritzer and I had the rhubarb one. We also ordered a dessert of strawberry ice cream which was embedded with frozen strawberries. This traditional Bavarian restaurant is located along a footpath by the Rhine so I highly recommend going for a walk either before dining in order to work up an appetite (and while there is still light) or afterwards to aid in digestion. With the beautiful homes lining the path and the many ships gliding by, you won't regret it! The entire menu looks great but we were there for one thing and one thing only: the roast goose with dumplings and blaukraut (red cabbage). (Check out my tip - this is a special offered only for the holiday season). This is a traditional family dish that we have had every year and I dare say this was better than the one prepared by my father-in-law. The goose was juicy and delectable and the skin was crispy and full of flavor. The brown gravy that was served for the table went perfectly with the dumplings and the blaukraut. There is a bread basket full of Bavarian pretzels and German breads served with delicious garlic quark (yogurt like) waiting for you at the table but don't fill up with this, the plates are substantial. This will definitely be on our list of restaurants to frequent whenever we are in Bonn.
