The crown jewel of performing arts in Tallahassee! After years of attending performances at the Ruby Diamond Concert Hall, it is definitely time to review them! A performance here can usually be relied upon to be a great, if not fantastic, experience which you will remember. I have seen operas and even hiplet (hip hop ballet) performances at the Ruby Diamond, which speaks to the diversity and quality of the acts they book for the venue. The concert hall is simply beautiful and perfect for a luxurious evening at the opera. All staff are courteous and promptly direct you to your seat or assist you with the ticket process. The Grand Dame of performance spaces in Tallahassee, named after a grand dame of FSU. I saw my first rock 'n roll show here in the mid '60s, a "package show" with The Young Rascals, The Knickerbockers, B. J. Thomas and more. I saw future FSU School of Theater dean Richard Fallon play Willy Loman in Death Of A Salesman here. George Thorogood and The Destroyers rattled the rafters one night back in the '80s. I am sure many people and many generations, both students and "townies", have seen many memorable performances here over the years. Thanks to an extensive facelift a few years back, Ruby Diamond has been restored to its glory. When you enter you can either go downstairs or upstairs. Downstairs gets you to the ticket office on the right, pre-show refreshments on the left or floor seating straight ahead. Upstairs gets you to balcony seating. The interior has new seating that is much more comfortable than the worn wooden seating of years past. You can go online to purchase tickets for specific seats and print your tickets at home. Unless you are a serious contributor, the closest parking for us regular folks is at the parking garage at Turnbull Center or the Fine Arts Center parking garage. Both locations will require a hike uphill to Ruby Diamond. After all, the Wescott Building that houses Ruby Diamond is built on one of Tallahassee's seven hills. If you are winded from the climb there are benches around Wescott Fountain to rest and catch your breath before going inside. read more

Have attended numerous concerts/performances at this venue. Love, love, love the space, the decor, and the overall feel of this place. Not only do I have positive experiences with attending shows, but I also volunteer with FSU Opening Nights and absolutely enjoy it! The staff members are always pleasant, and I enjoy giving my time to this worthy effort, particularly regarding the diverse artists/genres on the schedule. From enjoying the Opening Nights performances as well as the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, the Tallahassee Ballet, and various other "local" events, Ruby Diamond is the perfect place to enjoy musical sounds/singing. Never a bad experience regarding sound, lights, seating, etc. Since the pandemic, I have been to several performances. Masks are suggested, and most of the crowd is usually masked up, except when sipping on their drinks which are available at the bar before the concerts. Of note, I have found the perfect parking space where I don't have to hike up the hill to get to the building. Not a bad walk at all, but if it is pouring down rain, the performance will not be as enjoyable in wet clothes. :o) read more

9/14/2019: The Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra held an open rehearsal featuring accomplished pianist Conrad Tao. It was FREE to the general public. Mr. Tao's piano concerto was simply dazzling. The Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra - led by the piano magic of Mr. Tao created an absolutely fantastic orchestral 'sound voyage' in the Ruby Diamond Concert Hall that seemed to transport me to another place and time. Okay, I admit that I LOVE large multi-instrument live Orchestra's LOL. French Impressions was the theme of the concert rehearsal and it did not disappoint! Over the span of 2-1/2 hours the Orchestra played a myriad of musical masterpieces including Ravel, DeBussy and Gershwin. The Ruby Diamond Concert Hall acoustics were pretty darn good and I don't believe that there is a bad seat in the house. The conductor even turned to the audience a couple of times asking if individual instrument sounds were intelligible and other times briefed the audience about the histories behind the symphonies being played! Parking was free and a snap because this free concerto happened on a beautiful Saturday morning when most college area parking rules and restrictions are not in effect. Also there were no concession stands or any food or drink for pay available. Bring your own drink to these free rehearsals, they can last a couple of hours or more. Since my motto is "free is me", I will be looking into future free performances to attend. read more

Tuesday was the first time I'd stepped back into Ruby Diamond at my beloved FSU since 1978 to attend a lecture by Rapper/Actor Common. To say the renovations are exquisite is quite the understatement !! Immediately reminded me of the Knight Concert Hall at the Arscht Center in Miami. My husband and I plan to attend more events at Ruby Diamond now that we've retired to the area just to oogle its beauty. read more

In 2010 the newly christened Ruby Diamond Concert Hall was reopened following a 38 million dollar renovation that completely transformed the facility into a 1260 seat music hall. Parking was not a problem. Tickets were very reasonable. We went to a Clint Black concert here and is was an excellent venue for a show. With the small audience the performers seem to really take an interest in the audience. The theater is amazingly beautiful and the renovations really made it warm and inviting. Sound quality was excellent, seats were comfortable. I purchased several more tickets for future events here. read more
