My mom even worked for the local theater company... which adds to those nights of doing homework in the seats of the Dothan Opera House. As I got older, I also participated in a few shows here. But most of my time spent here was in the audience. If you compared this theater to some of the great ones in big cities, it might come up a little short. But if you throw in to consideration that it is in a semi small town in south Alabama, it is truly a historic icon that is a great place to watch a show. It has been years since I have come here. But even if they haven't done many updates, everything I remember was pretty good. Comfortable seats with a good view from every seat in the house. The lobby area is a little small. But again, that is if you compare to some of the bigger theaters I have been too. The fact that this theater has withstood the test of time when almost all of entertainment aspect of downtown was non-existent in the 80s and 90s is amazing. Great theater that is a nostalgic icon for me.

Not to mention it is a smoke free venue but they allow you to step outside to smoke. I saw "Bad Company" a few years ago there and look forward to watching the Bo Henry Band and Kinchafoonee Cowboys this year the night before Thanksgiving. Be safe and don't drink and drive. Ask for a shuttle of taxi to the Merry Acres Hotel if you drink too much.

Theatre Albany is an excellent place to see a play. The stagecraft was excellent, lighting and sound was perfect, and the small size of the auditorium makes for a great experience from any seat. During intermission they had a a nice selection of homemade sweets, store bought candy, coffee, and sodas. I hope to go again sometime.

Funnily enough days later I find out they're going to be doing this on Broadway with Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick. Go figure! Anyway, looks like we caught the Tallahassee version of it the day before its closing night. Given the spontaneity of it all, we arrived and were told to go to will call. Went to will call and were told to go back to the teller. Whatever. We got our tickets and sat down. Theatre is quaint, even cozy. Pretty intimate and there really isn't a bad seat in the house. I believe there's a bar outside as the actual pamphlet for the play contained an alcohol menu, but seeing as we didn't partake, I wouldn't be able to give you all the details. Felt the play dragged a bit honestly. Nevertheless it was enjoyable, and well, at least the seats were comfortable. Not to mention that I went with one of my favorite people.
