The only reason I'm giving any star at all is because there are a few awesome nurses and a couple of good doctors at this hospital. And to them I say find another place to work. I would not want to tell anyone that this is where I work if I were them!!!! This is a late review because I just haven't been able to bring myself to doing it because I've been so angry and devastated by the actions of this hospital. My niece went in to this hospital four months ago by the recommendation of her kidney doctor. Despite her hatred for this hospital because they killed her mother, my sister, as well as other family members, she went there because she trusted her doctor that much. Biggest mistake ever. I was there every day with her for a month and was appalled at the actions of this so called hospital. I could write for days with story after story of how they mistreated her as well as our family. They call themselves medical professionals but they are a far cry from being that!!!! I think they got their degrees out of a Cracker Jacks box!!!! A very long and sad story short, the misdiagnosed, mistreated and killed my niece. Medical malpractice is an every day occurrence at this so called hospital!!!! I wouldn't take an animal to this hospital for treatment!!!!! And if I had a life threatening accident in their parking lot I would take my chances and be taken to a hospital further away. It should be in every persons living will in that area to not be taken there. Those that go into that hospital and survive and get to return home, consider yourself very lucky and blessed. You're the minority. If I had the means to hire a lawyer and take this place down I would in a heartbeat!!!!! They deserve to be out of business. And they know what they're doing. All I can say is one day they WILL pay for mistreating and killing so many people that should still be here today. Worst. Hospital. Ever. I came here January 21 at 1:30am because I couldn't sleep due to my asthma acting up and I waited for a breathing treatment for an hour and 45 minutes. I had 3 doctors come in and ask the same damn questions and did the same damn examination and still took 1 hour and 45 minutes to get a breathing treatment done. When it comes to difficulty breathing or patients with a history of asthma isn't that priority?? Also this place is disgusting and has nats. Worst experience ever. I'd rather die. read more

The relative dinginess of the hospital is nothing in the face of the sheer number of patient at Ruby who have died during surgery.

This has to be the Worst Hospital i have ever seen, my father is in this hospital, the staff is very very un-attentive, in 5 hours of visiting not once did i see a nurse or an aid come in to check on my father. His room was a mess, his pillows still had blood on them that had dried where the pillow cases had not been changed at all. You NEVER can get a straight answer from anyone, you can ask three different care givers and get 3 different answers from each one on anything to the point they look at you like your crazy when you ask them what the person before them just told you. I would recommend shutting this place down makes me so angry just thinking about it. read more

I signed on to be a contract Tech at JW Ruby. I was told that I could park in Children's Hospital Parking Lot. Construction company had me car towed ( I had to pay $175.00 and security would not even take me to the impound lot " they didn't have it towed"/ I had to get two buses to get there). I was told by a security guard ( the day car was towed and they finally found it) I could park in the visitor lot ( the reason I need a closer place to park is I had COVID in November, was in Intensive Care and have lung fibrosis). I parked in visitor parging lot for couple of weeks ( it was fine). Yesterday another security guard put an orange sticker violation on my car, this morning the same security guard said I needed a temporary sticker (several other security guards had told me it was all fine). Went to security to get a sticker, was told I had to have something from employee health for temp sticker, went to employee health was told I needed something from my doctor. My doctor is 200 miles away (thank goodness). WHAT A RIDICULIOUS PLACE TO CALL THEMSELVES "HEALTHCARE". read more

I am very disappointed & disgusted with how the 10th floor West unit treated my elderly father who had a stroke. The ICU Unit was compassionate and attentive. He was transferred to room 1080 - again wonderful & caring nurses. It all turned to the worse when moved to 10th floor West wing waiting for approval for rehab transfer. In fact, I wrote a 4 page letter to Mr. Wright, the CEO,and since he didn't have the decency to respond to my concerns of the neglectful treatment my 87 year old father was treated, I am writing this review. The phones in the patients room looked like a child's plastic toy. The ringer didn't work, nurses were rude about transferring calls to my dad. They left him unsupervised without the nurses call button for hours with his dinner sitting cold. My father couldn't walk due to the stroke and was experiencing hospital delirium. He told me on phone he'll just walk to the bed himself! Can you imagine the anguish we felt! Then they didn't feed him dinner and he was being transferred to Uniontown hospital 10 pm that night!! I had to stay on the phone with him for hours to make sure he was being fed and cared for. if you have a loved one in Ruby Hospital make sure you advocate for them. Mr. Wright, I received my signature return for proof that you received my letter and I have yet to hear back from you! What a disgrace for your staff to treat my 87 dad, US Army 82nd airborne veteran. How can you sleep well at night. read more

My husband had robotic heart surgery in September. The staff was awesome, and the surgeon, Dr. Badhwar was superb. While it's true the room could have been spiffed up more often, our main concern was how our needs were taken care of by the staff and doctors. Also, the food was decent for hospital food, although, again, we didn't pick Ruby for it's culinary expertise (there are plenty of outside restaurants to pick from if someone was so inclined). I also liked the fact that the parking is free and valet parking was an option. We live in Washington, PA and the hospital here charges $3 per visit! I don't know if we will ever need to do this again, but, if the need arises Ruby will be the hospital of our choice. Thank you Ruby heart/vascular team! read more

my Dad was sent there from Belpre Ohio..(2 hrs away) he had a stroke.. we only had one neurologist come in around 11am and tell us that "he had a stroke".. the nurse never checked in on him.. he had paralysis on right side impaired motor skills.. his iv was beeping and we were told that when that happened we needed to tell them.. so my question was .. so if we're not there.. then what.??. dad couldn't tell them.. they offered him no meals..stating he had to order them from the kitchen from the phone in his room.once again...he couldn't do these things. the protocol for visitation is very confusing.. and the receptionists at main entrance lacked any customer service slills. very rude and confrontational..i have open heart surgery scheduled there in August..i will not be having it done there.... I do not recommend .. when he is stable we are bringing him back to our hospital in Parkersburg..i hope you all have better luck.. very disappointing.. read more

The staff at this hospital are incompetent. I went to the ER with my roommate on Monday night, and there were adults, children, and infants who hadn't been treated for hours. My roommate was having severe chest pains, and when I told the front desk worker, she dismissed me and said my roommate would have to wait. There was a seven year old boy with a head wound who had to wait four hours to even get a bed. There was another infant who's mother told me that they had been waiting for three hours. The mother said that her daughter had a very high fever. I waited with my roommate for about 30 minutes before we left and went to Mon Health Medical Center instead, where there was only a short wait. I was shocked that no one at Ruby's ER was taking severe chest pain seriously. This hospital is seriously understaffed and making ER patients wait for up to five hours is both inhumane and dangerous. read more

AKA - Hotel California, Beware!!! Avoid if you are over 70. It's Logan's Run in real life! My mother checked in for surgery to remove a tumor. She jumped through all the hoops to get approval from several doctors for the surgery. She checked in and the doctors provoked her into having a heart attack by telling her that her organs were shutting down. Their doctors than refused to give her a heart catheter because her kidneys were having trouble. Then their kidney specialist refused to do a dialysis because of her troubled heart. 45 days later, they override the medical power of attorneys wishes and forbid to perform CPR. I thought about getting a living will, but found out that doctors can override. It defeats the purpose of a living will. I'll never recommend this rat hole. read more

Monday, August 05, 2019 I am writing to you today to express my dissatisfaction with the lack of care provided to my mother; Cathy Shaffer. I would be grateful if you would investigate the issues that I am bringing forth and respond to my complaints. Cathy Shaffer that was released from 10 West at J.W. RUBY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL on July 30th 2019. * Miss Shaffer was assigned a sitter for patient safety, this continued to the moment of discharge. If she is not safe enough to be left alone, then why was she safe enough to be discharged home? * No discharge plan was put into place. Miss Shaffer has no permeant housing and does not have family support (transportation to and from follow-up appointments or to even get to the pharmacy to obtain her medications). * No follow-up care providers were arranged in Charleston, WV. NO - Neurologist and NO - Family doctor. There simply were no referrals made. * Family was not notified of her discharge. When I arrived to my mothers' room, she informed me that she had been discharged. I did not believe her as she had been often times confused during her stay. Her sitter (assigned by the hospital) was still present. It was not until my mom called 911 for an ambulance to come get her that I realized what had occurred. Unfortunately, it was approaching 5pm and no case manager was available to help us. The charge nurse when informed of the issues was not equipped to deal with them. * I have tried many times to contact case management at J.W. RUBY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL unsuccessfully. No one has returned my phone calls and I am not sure what to do in regards to my mother's ongoing health issues and her need for follow-up neurological care. This leaves me feeling disgusted that this was handled the way it was. This all was handled so inappropriately, so again I'm asking you to fully investigate the issues that have raised and responded to my complaints. The cheeseburgers at this restaurant are great. Only three dollars for a massive serving. I'm not sure what the rest of this restaurant is used for as the seating area seems to be quite small relative to the four or five buildings that the restaurant encompasses. I have mixed feelings about this hospital. To be honest. My mother in law was transferred there to the icu, All while the staff In all areas are very respectful & attentive to her every need. We as her visitors had to stay out in the waiting area, which is totally fine & understandable, but the cleanliness the hospital was horrid! When we had called it a night from spending time with my mother in law & went in to the waiting room to go to bed, it was a complete mess dirty coffee pot, trash around the coffee station, spilled sugar & coffee, trash was over flowing BUT to top it off this morning when we had awoken. I go into the bathroom to change into new clothing for the day (the bathroom was complete filth as well, mind you) anyways, when I had went back into the waiting area to put my old change of clothes into my bag, I had noticed a bug crawling on my bag!! Yes, a bug!! I instantly started getting frantic telling my husband to get it, he did. He was almost positive it was a bed bug! I have never seen one in real life or had any type of encounter with one. So, I was unsure. I took it out to the front desk nurses so they could be aware of the situation & so something could be done! They confirmed it was a bed bug. The one nurse was completely on mom & my husband's side. As to where, the other nurse was rude & gaveus looks as if we were the ones who brought it there & even saying she doesn't think it's a bed bug! I had pictures from google, showing it was in fact a bed bug! They gave us a bag to put our belongings in & gave instructions as to what to do so we could be sure to not drag them home with us. As we were so worried that, that could/would happen. The housekeeping assured us that it can't be an infestation because he didn't see anything when he looked. I checked our seating areas before we went to bed last night & seen nothing as well. Lol. After talking with people who had recently had to stay there with their family members. They have said that they have also had encounters with bed bugs from that waiting room! So this isn't the first encounter!! They showed us that it was closed off & no one else who was visiting patients could enter the waiting room, which in turn made us feel somewhat at ease because, we'd know no one else would have to go through such a terrifying disgusting thing, but unfortunately just TWO hours later they had reopened the waiting room & the public was using it & I was saddened to see that!! I mean it was bad enough my family & myself had to come home & strip completely naked on our porch in the cold shaking our hair etc. just to be as safe as we could so that we wouldn't track these nasty bugs into our home!! They do not care obviously & are very dirty!! In the time my mother in law has spent there so far there has not been one housekeeper in her room!! & she ain't he icu you'd think that if anything they'd keep that floor clean with such high risk patients! So with my experience I'm rating a one which it Goulding even have that high of a rating tbh & I'm wanting to warn anyone who's there now or will have to be in the future to not go into the waiting rooms & be as careful as possible when going home to be sure you guys don't track these things into your homes either!! read more

My review is a little different as a (black) employee I have experienced a lot of racism either if its a room with nurses or the officers every time I go take a cigarette break I'm not the only one they like to stop always by my car thinking I'm smoking something else but I'm not on the 6th floor south east side isn't it funny theirs only one black kid on the wall out of 20- 30 pictures. and doctors I was getting on the elevator once and 6 or 7 doctors did an u turn and walked away saying do you really want to go on the elevator with a foreign I was pissed so I warn to all black people do not work at this racist hospital it will be your nightmare read more

Worst ER ever.. went on a Sunday with a dislocated shoulder. On a scale of 10 a 9 to 10 at most points. The doctors and nurses would shoot drugs into my iv and run off. After 2 hits on the iv, both wearing off I was agitated. It took them 4 hours after arrival to get my shoulder back into place, will not return again.. read more

This place is horrible. They are so mean and they judge everyone. I'm suppose to have colonoscopy and the nurse calls me just to hang up on me I told her I lost my paper with instructions but she doesn't care. Now I have cancer that as been in me for over a year could of been caught 6 months ago but they canceled my appointment and just hang up on me when I try and get another one. Nursing staff is either inept or understaffed. My husband came in with 2 broken femurs, had surgery and was moved to floor7. It took them 20 minutes to come to the room when he called the nurses station to ask if they could help him use the bedpan. Several times they were too late. It was a problem the entire 2 weeks he was there and never improved despite complaining to the patient advocate. Terrible care. So glad to get transferred to our local hospital. And he contracted MRSA from there and is still being treated for it. read more

My 2granddaughters were at this hospital for an accident on a 4 wheeler. one had to be life flighted everything turned out real good. My other granddaughter had a broken clavicle and we were told she needs no surgery. Well we get back home in Ohio and see an Orthopedic and the x-ray is the same a week and a half later. She is having surgery here at University Hospital on Wed.I just don't understand how no she does not need surgery there and she does here. No one that we showed the x-ray on her phone said that they could not believe a DR. could say no surgery. Oh well needed to vent. read more

Worst Hospital! I was actually cut by the staff "accidentally" during pre-op. Nurse could not put in IV after 9 tries. I never had a problem with IVs before or after. No medications were provided even though I required insulin and other medications daily. After I left the hospital, the abusive accounting department hounded me for payment before 30 days and before any insurance payments could be made. Robert A. Shapiro Delivery Surgeon ( C-section). Stay away from him. I've had 2 C-sections and he did the 2nd one. He botched the second one is more like it. He at first once I checked in put me on a schedule and I didn't have my C-section until the next night. He had several C-sections the same day and I was the last one. He couldn't wait to get mine over with so he could "punch out". I was shaken so hard left to right on the table by this malpractitioner unlike my first C-section with a different Dr. that was smooth. I was not told about the obstacles that would follow. Because I was overweight he had a Wound-Vac put on me. A device for infectious fluids to be drained out as well as blood. It was not a device for me. Staples were for me. They put me in a category of "your fat you'll rip out your staples". I'm no idiot. I had a C-section before and I knew better. It wouldn't have happened. I know my own body. I know my own actions. He doesn't. I was so sore from being left open and the foam that was to be stuffed in the open wound would make me bleed profusely, because it stuck to my healing skin. I asked him if there was another way to get his input and all he did was say "NO." and stormed out of the room and slammed the door. My husband is witness to it. I had to have nurses come see me several days a week for 3 mths. until insurance was done paying for it. After that my husband became my nurse. A little while before the nurses stopped coming a nurse and I decided to stop using it because of the tearing it was doing to me. So, we started packing it with saline drenched gauze, tucked into the wound, covered with an abdominal pad, and taped to my stomach. So not only did I have that open incision I also had tape off and on off and on and it tore up my skin. I did not heal for 10 mths.! Not only that I also had large spongy cubed chunks of tissue coming out of me when I would use the bathroom, because he was such a lazy bastard that he didn't fully clean me out. I am traumatized and cry every time I think about it. I know it was lawsuit worthy, but I didn't know how and was too scared. I believe that he is unworthy to work at any hospital or on anyone. I seriously, if you haven't got the picture by now, do not recommend him. He's the devil. I saw the evil in his face and ignored it. How dare you, Shapiro? How dare you call yourself a surgeon? You should be ashamed of yourself. I want compensation for my mental, physical, and emotional misery. (I want to vote a zero, but am prohibited.) read more

Medical staff are very good. Unfortunately the Admin are not. My estranged sister called and spoke to Felix, lied and told him that she had power of attorney whereupon Felix changed my Post OP treatment to her specifications. When he told me that my POA had changed my physical therapy etc I was angry and told him that no such POA existed and not to speak to her. He said she means well and he would continue to talk to her. He told the RN that she had POA and transferred her to him and the RN said he answered her questions. The RN apologized later when he found out the mistake. My surgeon had a heated discussion with me when I denied having given POA to anyone after he read the erroneous information entered by Felix. Felix later deleted the info and also did not correct the Post OP treatment instead canceling my physical therapy altogether. I filled out a survey sent by Ruby and left information to call me but never heard from them. I called the patients advocate line and explained everything a few weeks ago. I received a letter acknowledging the conversation but have not since had any contact. An apology would be nice but Ruby's cavalier attitude towards hippa violations should give any patients pause to consider whether their privacy and treatment are important enough to be entrusted to Ruby Memorial Hospital. read more

My brother has been in Ruby for 4 weeks now. He went in with a very bad staph infection of the spine etc. He was sent over to Ruby from Mon General. He has had nothing but the best care, the best Dr's and the best team of nurses one could hope for. He has been on floor 4, 5, 10, 7 and now 8....in various ICU's and step downs. They have kept him alive when it didn't look promising. We are very blessed to have had such a good place to take him. I can't vouch for the other floors, but the ones he has been on has been superb. Even the students that have worked with him have been wonderful and caring and eager to learn. Can't say enough good stuff about this place! read more
