Banana with Almond Nut Brittle and Fleur de Sel Carmel Sauce, Sophie's Stem Ginger, Thick Cut Seville Orange Marmelade Ripple, Cardamom & Lemon...I don't know about you, but I get a "literary hard-on" just reading through the list of exotic and unusual flavours here at Ruby Violet. Having lived in San Francisco for a long time and seeing the ice-cream revolution taking of there, I would say that for me Ruby Violet is the Bi-Rite Ice Cream of London (the latter being the place where I lost my salted-caramel virginity). It's hip and trendy, but the folks in here are very down-to-earth at the same time. When I last was here, I saw all kinds of people flocking here: little kids with their daddy, the young couple on a romantic date, the hipster with the horn-rimmed glasses...and me with my dog! This is the kind of place I would make a detour for...even in the winter. It's really good. read more

Went to Ruby Violet to try there hot chocolate. Cute little ice cream parlour near tufnell station. Minimal seating inside, you are greeted by a high Ruby Violet neon sign. I had there long and frothy hot chocolate. It is brought to you in a cute tea set. Chocolate is thick and sweet and you get a side of milk so you can choose how milky you would like it. Note- it does take some time to prepare. I also treated myself to a ice cream cone. It was yummy! You can taste that they use the best ingredients. Sadly you only get a tiny scoop for the price. read more

Delicious locally made ice-cream with a whole range of new flavours to try!? Wait, you're going to let me try a few before I decide!? (that might be dangerous with me as I fancied most of them!) Fan-blooming-tastic. After trying the salted caramel and the white chocolate and coconut flavours, I felt too cheeky as ask to try any others, so I went with G&T sorbet. It was my best decision of today. Seriously, it was literally the perfect, lemony refreshing treat as we walked over to Hamstead Heath. Marc had the pineapple sorbet, that tasted like yummy fresh pineapples (so less sweet than the uber syrupy canned pineapple flavour.) I didn't take any photos as I was too busy munching it all. Pricey (hence the missing star) but man oh man so good. I got a scoop of the chocolate sorbet and the deep, rich cacao notes blew me away. Also got a scoop of the heavenly special, the elderflower and prosecco. The bubbly taste of the prosecco shined as did the flowery elderflower. The little cracker that comes with it is bland but helps scoop the deliciousness of the ice cream! read more

I've spent my entire adult life telling people that I don't like ice cream. There are various reasons; it makes me feel sick, it tastes gross, it's too cold! Then Ruby Violet opened. Whilst showing visiting friends and family around my local area, I have at times stopped in to show off how cute our local stores are, and of course, taken them to Ruby Violet. It would make sense then to at least sample the goods, especially when everyone else is having one. They are amazing!! The flavours are incredible, interesting and all made from local organic ingredients. The wafers are YUM and they have a selection of both ice creams and sorbets (many of which are boozy ;) They make a wonderful treat on the way home from a lengthy stroll on the Heath. There are also various warm fudge and hot chocolates to treat yourself with in the Winter months. Located on the increasingly hip Fortess Road, the shop is SUPER cute, and the big pink/purple light feature can be spotted from right down the street, day or night. They also once gave a friend of mine a free ice cream after overhearing us discuss a toppled scoop from a previous purchase. They are so nice!! Alright, maybe this joint is a wee bit pricey, but it's DEFINITELY worth it. My mouth has never experienced such lovingly handcrafted and mind-boggling unique flavours. Elderflower and Prosecco Sorbet. Hampstead Honey Ice Cream. Massala Chai. Salted Caramel. They change from week to week, but some staples always remain. Stopped by today for a single scoop of lemon sorbet. WOW. First of all, the portion of a single scoop was way more than half of a double scoop (if that makes sense). Second, the lemon sorbet was incredible. It was just the right amount of sour to quench my thirst, was light the way sorbet should be, yet managed to have the rich creaminess and smooth texture of ice cream. Lemony perfection. read more

Stopped by this cute little ice cream shop last week when the weather was lying to me telling me spring is here... It was hot and sunny outside so I was craving some ice cream... But I had cheeseburger for lunch that's why I finally choose a scoop of lemon sorbet. Insane vanity lightbulb sign with "Ruby Violet," written out in 70s psychedelic font, that is definitely the realization of someone's midlife dream 6. It kind of reminds me of something San Francisco would do, but the middle class English couples and aged wood accents make it undeniably North London The ice creams I listed above were a little better in my imagination than on my tastebuds, but I'd definitely come back to try others. I think most of my Yelp reviews have been about icecream parlors! This rating started out at 4/5 much like the others due to price vs serving size vs the shop location. The shop itself is nicely decorated and I was served by a pleasant person. I sampled the peanut butter but could instantly tell it was American stuff (Jif) which much like American cheese should be described as a food type product, therefore that was a nay. Next sample was one of their daily rarities which was nice but I opted for the flavour staples of chocolate and then raspberry ripple to compare against all the other places I've had these flavours. However it is cool that they have one day only flavours! I guess my tastebuds differ greatly to the previous reviewers, but then I guess this shop makes ice cream and not gelato, whereas the latter is my preference. I recently went to Venice and was spoiled rotten by the quality there (definitely hit up Gelateria Suso if you go there). I found the chocolate flavour to be pretty nice with a good lingering after taste but the consistency wasn't really to my liking. Unfortunately the raspberry ripple lacked flavour and sweetness AND texture so I was disappointed. It was better than the last time I went to Marine Ice near to Camden though. Fair enough if you like ice cream but under par for gelato lovers. I rated this experience 3 stars instead of 2 because of the unique flavours and one day specials which is new to me. I might stop by next year to taste for improvement. If they're still there... boom boom! read more

Yes some unusual flavours and a quality product, but oh, very expensive, even for a single scoop. An occasional treat if you are in the area, but not the kind of place you especially visit unless you are popping into Sainsburys Local a few doors away. I am normally driving past, or on a bus as parking very difficult in shopping hours, and the Camden Camera Gestapo can be nasty! A good offering for an unusual flavour addict, but the sorbets were rather good! read more

I first discovered Ruby Violet's at the Tufnell Park Farmer's Market and was delighted when she opened a shop last year. I wasn't even a big ice-cream fan but my goodness, I am hooked. Her flavours are so imaginative, seasonal and as locally sourced as possible. You can tell by the attention to detail the passion that goes into creating this wonderful ice-cream. Last Saturday was my first opportunity to visit Ruby Violet, after seeing them in Time Out. The sun was shining at last and it was a perfect opportunity for Ice cream. The parlour is smallish, tasteful, with a beautiful tiled floor. My mint choc chip was delicious and not the usual fluorescent green that you so often see, as all ingredients I was told are prepared freshly on the premises in this case using real mint, and you could taste it. The staff were busy and friendly and the atmosphere happy. Loved it, will be back to explore many more times, even without the sun! read more

We love Ruby Violet. We had to impose an ice cream budget in our house to avoid spending all our money here. It's hard to recommend a flavour as there is constant variety (although some favourites are constant like salted caramel, vanilla, chocolate). But because the wonderful Julie uses totally fresh ingredients each batch is unique. If you really like something (like Sicilian blood orange ice cream) you had better get two scoops and take a tub home. When it runs out, it runs out. There is nothing worse than going to Ruby Violet and discovering that what you had and loved last week has been eaten by someone else. The only thing that makes it better is the extreme generosity of the staff in letting you taste everything else until you settle on your perfect substitute. Wonderful! An unassuming shop front with an Aladdin's Cave of flavours within. I had chilli chocolate and chai ice creams; my wife had lemon sorbet and a lavender flavoured concoction. Assorted grandchildren had most of the other flavours on offer and no-one was disappointed. More astounding than the range of flavours was the depth of flavour in each one we sampled. If you've never had anything but Lyon's Maid prepare yourself for a taste revolution! read more

Went here a few weeks ago with my mother who is disabled and was appalled by the seating arrangements, the table is extremely cramped and the only seat available for her was between the freezer and the kitchen which meant that she had to keep moving for staff coming in and out. It wasnt too busy but the tables and floor were dirty-ice cream, dust and cone crumbs. The water jug was empty and the glasses were filthy, i had to ask for it to be filled up! The ice cream was ok, i have had better and was dissapointed with the flavours available. My mother did enjoy her salted caramel but my tiramisu was icy. I also purchased a tub of chocolate for my husband which he started to eat last night however was unablt to finish as the paper on top had disintegrated and the flavour had dissapeared which is not acceptable for £7!! Such a dissapointment, i was very excited about having a local ice cream shop! I guess we will still be making trips to Chin Chin Laboratists in order to get our ice cream fix..... read more
