This man is a wizard with repairs. My spark plug was sucked into the engine. This should have destroyed the engine and most places would have just called the car a loss. I've taken new and used cars to him and even brought an old travel trailer in for him to check wiring, seals, and make it safe. He tells you like it is and is trustworthy. He helped choose all the most reliable vehicles I've seen people have and I really don't have a negative thing to say about him. Other mechanics are rarely trustworthy, they want to get every dime they can out of every issue, rude will try to save you money. Since then my Winchell wipers will go off when I hit a bump and my clock takes a while to actually show the current time, that's only started to happen after "they fixed "my truck I took it in for him to look at it and he blew me off, said well those types of things happen I don't know if I can fix it I don't know what it is leave your truck here and I'll get to it in a few days. Bob Rude have saves me thousands over the years. One time I had a factory recall on my Chevy Tahoe so I took it to the dealership for the repair. They came up with an additional estimate for some recommended repairs the dealership created. Their estimate was $2,200. This seemed funny to me because I did not think the SUV needed any repairs, I had the dealership email me the items they wanted to fix. I emailed Bob a copy of the recommendations, Bob said the repairs were not needed. I did not make the repairs, I put another 20,000 miles on the SUV with no problems, then I ended up selling the SUV 20,000 miles later. Bob has always treated me fair and honestly - hared to find in the auto business. His shop is not the fanciest, I do however trust him and his crew and they don't take advantage of folks. read more

Not type to write reviews that often, but feeling obligated to help others avoid this place. Took Outback there for a pre-purchase inspection. Found a couple of minor things. We discussed head gaskets and timing belts - told both fine. Next day I returned for minor work and miraculously timing belt gasket leaking and two sensors now bad. Course, I bought the car already. So, $1200 later, I'm on the road and happy, kind of. Today, two months and 300 miles later, I take car to the Subaru dealer to see about selling it (found another car - car I'm writing about was only transitional). Subaru tech puts car on the lift and shows me copious amount of oil leaking from head gaskets and months and months of sludge on other parts where head gaskets have been leaking. In fairness I'm not sure if they are incompetent, dishonest, or both, but all three of the Subaru techs were incredulous that a mechanic could've missed it. I could see it and I know nothing. In addition, my sister just had front brakes done and has been back twice and they still squeal and are not right. There are definitely better places... read more

I've got a 2005 Kia Sorento with many issues. I checked with the Kia dealer, the Honda dealer that I'd bought the car from, and a couple local shops for an estimate to do a tune up/LOF. They all quoted me prices in excess of $700. My wife went online and found Rude's Auto and their quote was $200. I figured it might be worth the travel to check it out. Sure enough, not only did Bob provide temp transportation, but thouroughly diagnosed the problems with our car. He fixed the immediate issues, let me know what issues should be addressed into future, and gave me quotes and time/mileage tables to keep the cAr running. It's a bit of a drive but I'll make sure to get to Lynden because this is the best service I've recieved in many years. read more

I was recently looking to complete some exhaust repair and improvements to a newly acquired vehicle. I noticed several things off the bat, first the waiting area was completely filthy. Not the kind where it looks like the floor needs a mopping but down right filth. The walls covered in dirt, grime, oil and what not, the chairs covered with God only knows. I wouldn't sit down in those if someone paid me. I was told that a simple weld was going to cost $120 because the tech would have to drop my skid plate. ?? What? On a Wrangler that is a very minor task, specially when you have compressed air and a rack. But hey, I told them I would drop the pan if needed. I asked for a price for a new muffler since they would be into the job to begin with. I was told they would have to get back to me. If a shop is going to be open for business, offer to repair something they should know what it is going to cost. But I still wanted to give the local guy the benefit of the doubt. I thought the shop smelled like smoke, even thought that someone might be smoking in the work bays as I started to get sick from the smell. Maybe, just maybe it was an old shop and they use to smoke and the smell was lingering. I even thought to myself that the chair and who knows might be contributing to those smells. I left, disappointed at the local shop. Disappointed at the lack of service. Disappointed at the conditions. When leaving I knew that I smelled smoke, noticed that right next to my vehicle there were spent butts on the floor of the shop. Driving away I could still smell the smoke. The next day I went to Marysville in forty five minutes I was out with a repair and new muffler. Today I was getting into my Jeep and low and behold a cigarette. The tech must have put it on the side of the vehicle and it fell into the recess as you get in! I know this happen at Rudes as I vacuumed and washed the vehicle just prior to going into his shop. I don't smoke, nor do I let anyone in my vehicle that may smoke. Needless to say the shop won't get any future business from me. I will be calling Rude on Monday to let him know my dissatisfaction. It's one thing to have a filthy waiting room, have poorly trained techs, not have the information to provide good service to your new and current clients. It's another thing to leave your poor habits in others cars. read more

Stay away from this shop! They seem to do decent work, but you will most definitely pay too much for it! If they think you do not know much about car repairs they will definitely take advantage. I ended up a Rude's because he took over the Alignment shop when the previous owner passed away. I really liked the previous so I gave it a shot. New ownership made me feel uncomfortable with the service, like "you better walk on egg shells" because of the attitude. Personally as a customer, I don't want to feel like I need to kiss-up to a vendor in order to not have my meal spit in, so to speak. Beyond the personal experience, the quality of service on my vehicle was unacceptable. As I asked a few friends, several had similar experiences, non had good ones to share. The customer interactions (with other random customers) which I witnessed while in the office echo'd the pretentious treatment as well. read more

I went here for an oil change, pretty simple right? Well they did the oil change and installed some new lights for me. After I drove it home it was fine, but later that night trying to go up a hill my car stalled, a problem I didn't have before... I called them and took it in the next day, they tried to make it seem like it probably was something already wrong with the car. Come to find out after they did the oil change the forgot to put an air hose back in. After I dropped it off the next day it took them about five hours to fix their mistake, seems like it shouldn't have taken that long. Over all, the customer service wasn't bad, but I don't know why it took them five hours to figure out that they should have put an air hose back in. I'm not going back there. read more

Impressive service. I have an older vehicle that needed the starter replaced. It's a more involved job because the engine has to be lifted in order to access the starter. Bob communicated with me through the entire process, gave me a great quote up front and stayed true to the estimate. I was amazed at the quick turnaround time. I dropped the car off in the morning and actually had it back the same day. Bad, bad news. My son spent $1500 having his transmission "rebuilt" at Rude's and when he got the car back, it made a grinding noise. He brought it back but was told that everything was fine. He brought it to another mechanic, who discovered that in the course of "rebuilding" the trans, the transfer case bearings had not been replaced and were in fact, shot. It cost him $800 to have the trans removed again, disassembled and the transfer bearings replaced. He went back to Rude's to seek redress and was basically told to get lost. This place is aptly named. The poster child for dishonest mechanics. Go somewhere else. read more

I had an entirely different experience at Rude's than the other reviewer. The first time, he did a simple repair on my exhaust and did not charge me. The second time he went flat out on my truck (Ford) to repair all sorts of things (electrical, rear hub, lugs, repairing someone else's bad rear seal job) and charged me 400 bucks. I know a fair bit about cars and the quality of work of mechanics. I have to say that Bob Rude might be about the best mechanic I have ever met. And no, I am not his mother. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. I made an appointment for 12:45 and was told it would take an hour for an alignment. An hour went by, no call from them, so I called and they told me they hadn't even started on my car. Then 10 minutes later they called back asking if I had given them a key. I told them I did and they then said they couldn't find it. My ride had to drop me off at the shop and when I walked in, we waited in the office for 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. The guy didn't even recognize me and when I reminded him, I saw my car driving off. I asked if their shop was off site and he said "well no, he's gotta test drive it and we just found your key." Two and a half hours have passed at this point and I was frustrated. The guy was unapologetic and rude, hence the name. It's been three hours and I'm still waiting for my car. Do NOT bring your car here, you may not get it back!! read more
