Hike is pretty steep, constantly uphill for about 3 miles, all in the trees though. Mosquitoes around, bug spray is good. After 3 miles, trail goes down pretty steeply, lake was really pretty, not very cold water! Sat there for a bit to enjoy the water and view, really calming. Didn't see very many people on the trail, had the lake to ourselves. Bad part of the hike is the need to go back uphill after the lake, but it's not too bad. Took 2 hours to get to the lake, 2 hours back, was a bit dark and got a bit cold towards the end of the hike. Hiking poles definitely helped!

We went around 8:00am got at lake around 11:30am, only few small breaks and took 3 hours to come back. When we reached the lake it was mesmerizing. Thinks to remember: 1.Take a lot of water and snacks with you. It is hard hike so stay hydrated. 2. Bug spray if needed we had it but did not use it because bugs were not too bad. 3. Go early to beat the heat and this hike requires $5 day use fee and Northwest forest pass. 4. Since it's not 7.5 miles be ready to do extra 4 miles. Total of 11.5miles This hike was hardest hike for us so far but the view worth the hike. I would highly recommend to go there at lest once in life time. The view is breathtaking!!! During the COVID-19 pandemic my go-to option for using the restroom by stopping to get a coffee or something to eat and using a restroom ended up not being an option regularly available, so I started eyeing this park as I drove past and finally decided to stop both ways, going east and west, across the Cascade Mountains in mid to late August 2021. The main sign is clearly visible from US-2 and even lighted, which makes it easy to spot on a cloudy or wildfire-smoky day. There is a large pull-off area next to two port-a-pottis and a garbage can. Picnic tables are spread out in the park. Grassy areas to leave one's vehicle and stretch one's legs were on multiple sides of the pull-off. Trees line part of the park's perimeter. The port-a-pottis are located about 10 feet from the railroad tracks. On my first visit, a train barreled past as I was using the outhouse... First time I have used an outhouse that was being actively rattled by a train not ten feet away. An experience to remember. The outhouses were well maintained, as was the rest of the park. All around a nice place to stop and rest especially during COVID-19 times.

Sportsman Park in Sultan is conveniently located both by the Skykomish River and United States Route 2. The park is on the righthand side of the road when traveling west on the highway and in my experience, the turn in to the park has been easy to maneuver in my compact car. Parking is abundant for the most part, outhouse clean, grounds well maintained, and water accessory items in supply. Nice place to do a little adventuring right off the highway if on a longer drive.

FYI- this small area is NOT fenced and the signs borders the park. Your dog must be under verbal and hand signs at all times. This park is right next to the highway where the big rigs and cars/trucks zoom by. The other side of the park has railroad tracks and the river (Skymomish River- I think.) Your dog must not be fearful of loud noises. Fortunately, my dog is ball focused- she kept her eye on the ball and ignored all loud noises and ... she even ignored the huge deer pellet poo pile. (Whew- I don't think I would be happy driving with a stinky dog inside home.)

No hoops, no delays, no nonsense -- just a professional who truly loves what she does. Her camp is clean, safe, warm, and personal. I received morning photos, evening videos, and updates that showed Tuffy comfortable, happy, and completely relaxed. The environment is exactly what you hope for when you want your dog treated with real attention and care. The highlight for me? No cages. Dogs are allowed to be dogs in a home-style setting with constant supervision and real human interaction.
