I wanted to give my Scottish cousin who came to visit us in Missoula an unforgettable experience. She's an experienced rider and 15 years younger than me so I was understandably wary of joining the tour thinking that I might keep them back. Kip understood my concerns and assured me he has the perfect horse to match to every type of rider. I can't thank Kip enough for choosing Highway for me! Highways was very careful of me, took to the trail with a sure foot, avoided the tree trunks and NEVER showed any sign that he would get spooked and take off with me (or without me) which was my biggest fear. I learned to trust my horse and my ability to hold on and rely on his instincts and enjoyed an amazing experience that I would have sorely missed had I not trusted Kip and his expertise in dealing with skittish tourists and steady horses on a wild and scenic trail. For 4 hours, which felt much shorter, we climbed a rugged ridge that felt like we were Wild West pioneers discovering a new world. Even my experienced rider cousin couldn't stop saying WOW! I recently had an amazing half day horse trail ride that exceeded my expectations in every way. The horses were not only beautiful but also well-behaved, making the ride smooth and enjoyable for everyone. The staff, including Kip, Ray, and Elijah, were fantastic. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe. They gave clear instructions before we set off, which helped even beginners like me feel confident. The property we rode through was stunning! We explored the forest and an open meadow. We never once felt unsafe on their horses. And to top it off, the ranch dogs were absolutely adorable and added to the charm of the experience. One even followed us for awhile as we headed on our ride. Overall, this horse trail ride was a wonderful adventure. The horses were great, the staff was friendly and helpful, the scenery was breathtaking, and the ranch dogs were a delightful bonus. I honestly loved this horseback riding experience in with Rugg's Outfitting so much. It felt like the real West in the best possible way - wide open land, beautiful views, fresh air, and just that peaceful feeling you can't really explain unless you're there. The horses were amazing, gentle, and clearly well cared for. There was something really special about being out there riding through Montana nature that made me slow down and appreciate everything for a minute. It felt freeing, grounding, and unforgettable. My husband and I stayed in a cabin by the lake and enjoyed a 1/2 day trail ride. We will be bringing our kids and all of our friends and family back for more of the Rugg's experience. It is obvious the Rugg's family is NOT in this business for the $$ because the prices for their fully stocked, riverside cabin, with its own washer/dryer & kitchen are simply unbelievable! The cabin is outstandingly cozy, comfortable and clean and has all the amenities of a 5 star hotel- and then some, with the added bonus of being right on the beautiful Clark Fork River. Beautiful decor and very comfortable beds! Teresa went above and beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable stay and was great at communicating with us. My family and I really enjoyed the whole experience, the ride up and down a mountain that took us to a mining location was really beautiful to view. Our tour guide named Kipp, is a great guy, fun to be around, patient, and really helpful to those who's their first time riding a horse. All 6 horses I met on this occasion had their own personalities and it was heartwarming to get a small connection with them throughout this experience. So if you ever get the chance to meet Missy, Boots, Hobo, Tater Tots, Jammer, and Small fries to be your horse for the day, you'll most certainly enjoy this ride. read more

Kip guided my 19-year-old daughter and I for an evening trail ride on our overnight stay in one of their riverfront cabins. Can't say enough how great of a guide he was for my horse nervous self and my horse loving daughter. He matched the perfect horse for each of us and was an absolute pleasure to be guided by. Kip guided us on trail rides two days in a row. We had a marvelous time with Kip and his horses. The horses are reliable and steady for newbie riders. Kip took us on some amazing trails with beautiful views. This wasn't a boring flat road nose to tail trail ride. We traversed some challenging terrain. Kip is the real deal, and the personification of Montana outdoors. My son and I spent the cold April morning with him up in heavy timber navigating through a game trail, along with his three hounds, and had the best time! Had a great two night stay at the Ruggs cabins, including 2 guided rides. A half day ride just off the property and an incredible full day up to a lake. Kip was kind, knowledgeable, and fun to spend the day with. The cabins were cozy and rustic between the train tracks and the river. Not to mention the fields of horses you're surrounded by. We went on a trail ride this morning with Kip Rugg. He is sweet, funny, patient and very knowledgeable of the mountain. I haven't been on a horse in years and he made it fun and relaxing.
