I visit the Ruiz Branch Library almost once a week. Free wifi. Lots of interesting programming. They have a teen center where kids come after school and use computers. I can't tell for sure, but it seems like there were also adult tutors assisting kids there with their homework. The collection is reasonable. Lots of prominent Young Adult and kids books on display. Decent selection of movies including many recent releases on Blu-ray! With your free Austin Library membership, you can reserve a book online and have it sent to the Ruiz library to have it waiting for you when you arrive. If the book or DVD is at a different library, it might take a couple of days to be sent to Ruiz, but this service is super convenient. You can also return books at any library regardless of where you checked them out. The staff is very helpful, btw. If you need help finding something, they are always happy to assist. I would have given a five-star review except that the whole Austin Public Library system has a policy of requiring patrons to not wear sunglasses or hats that would obscure their appearance. The signs say it's for safety, but clearly that's a euphemism for surveillance. I would prefer to anonymously check out my books thank you very much.

    It's beautiful outside.

I agree. Too many unattended kids making noise. It's alright, if you come in the morning before it gets too crowded.

Austin Central Library is nothing short of magnificent. The…read morearchitecture and interior design are modern with clean lines and elements that accentuate the library experience taking it to another level entirely. This is the type of structure and experience you'd expect in NYC, London, and the likes. Absolute perfection. I love the way the book sections and categories are divided and set up on various floors. Each floor is crazy spacious with loads of comfortable reading areas, tables, areas for rest, etc. There are private meeting rooms, a cafe, gift shop, an art gallery, rooftop deck with crazy good views of the city and Ladybird Lake, a children's library called 'Wonderland', an events center and so much more. The librarians and staff are extremely helpful, friendly, and not bothered if you need assistance locating a book. They have almost everything you could possibly be looking for to read whether for research or fun. Access to laptops and computers. Lots of charging areas for media and phones. The library is a true marvel. It makes me happy to see and know that ALL are welcome, especially the unhoused who would otherwise not have a place to go in extreme temps. The bathrooms and entire library are spotless and meticulously clean. We're so very lucky to have this amazing library in our city.

I absolutely love this library (Lyndon B. Johnson). I visited once before relocating to Austin and…read morenow that I live within walking distance, I often take family and friends who come to visit. It's an important museum that houses millions of photos, videos, documents, etc. with regard to the Civil Rights Movement, Vietnam War, LBJ's presidency, and so on. There are exhibits displaying information on Medicare and its beginnings. The Oval Office replica is pretty cool to see. So many things to check out including, you guessed it, a gift shop! This is a "not to be missed" museum.

When we arrived and paid our admission fee, we immediately were met with 2 hosts that kind of went over and explained everything you would be seeing. The funniest part is when an elderly white lady tried to explain to me their new traveling exhibit. It was a hip hop exhibit and she was explaining how interesting it was. She was like 70 and I am sure she is bumping Biggie and 2 Pac on her way to work. The 1st floor was just the presidential Limo, some campaign exhibits, a gift shop and the hip hop exhibit. When I think about LBJ, I am pretty sure Hip Hop is far from the top of the list of things associated with him. However, as a kid from the hip hop generation it was cool to see Run DMC's Adidas, Slick Rick's Kangol and other artists out fits. The 10th floor (I think it was the 10th) had a replica Oval Office, lots of gifts given to LBJ during his presidency and other exhibits as well. I enjoy going to the different Presidential Libraries and Museums and this one is pretty nice but nothing that will wow you.
