I'm a CLE native and I would often see people posting about Rumor and its fun, yet sometimes dangerous atmosphere downtown. I decided to check it out due to mixed reviews and the two times I visited, I was less than content with my experience. I have seen bouncers discriminate against women, I've seen them charge different amounts for covers for different people. Sometimes they were disrespectful to LGBTQIA+ guests. On a few occasions, I saw them disrespect and insult some women, particularly darker skinned women as well. It was a very weird environment. Its small too so being crammed in like sardines on a more popular night with drunk ppl everywhere and arguing is not a good thing either. It's always someone fighting, threatening gun violence and the prices are so astronomical for Cleveland, Ohio. read more

If I could just leave a review without posting a single star I would. This is a public bar/club yet Rumor (specifically the bouncers) continuously discriminate against darker skin woman, members of the lgbtq+ and plus size community. With no actual dress code or even website for that matter I can personally say I have been denied entry on more than one occasion for absolutely no reason. I am a well paid high paying patron and to be turned away because of my size is unacceptable. I was told upon arrival that there was a special dress code to get in. The bouncers mentioned that me and my friend (both of us are thick/fat woman) who both had club attire and heels on were not allowed entry even though we watched them let in two smaller woman with jeans and tennis shoes on! I am assuming that they fit the aesthetic Rumor is going for. Insane also because I have been allowed entry in the past with no issue so I'm not understanding what the problem is now! Its misogynistic, unprofessional, and honestly just disappointing that a black owned business is habitually discriminating against people in their own community just to be deemed trendy. In hindsight the few times I have gotten into rumor the vibes were off. It was stuffy, dirty, dark and didn't even have much decor which is hilarious since they feel the need to chastise paying customers for their appearance I also posted this same very honest review on google and somehow the owner was able to have it delete!!!! completely unacceptable Oh and btw Ivy a few doors down is way better has fantastic music and doesn't come with all the made up recess rules. read more

Very odd atmosphere. It was early so maybe it picked up later but it was a weird experience.

Sunday August 14th I arrived at rumor nightclub at approximately 1am so technically Monday. Anyways, when I got to the door the bouncer immediately asked me for a $50 cover charge. When I asked him why he was charging me this he got extremely hostile and aggressive and told me to leave if I didn't like it. When I asked the several other bouncers/officers why he was being this way, they said they had no control over it... After being treated this way I took a step back and watched others approach the door. I found a strange pattern of behavior occurring. Anyone who was black was getting let in right away with no cover charge and anyone who was white was getting charged $50. Being that no one was answering the phone prior to my departure I took a chance and made the 30 minute drive only to be treated like an outcast. The bouncer was a tall stocky bald black man but had a large face cover/mask on. This behavior is not how Cleveland establishments should treat their patrons and is 100% unacceptable. I came here on a Friday night around midnight, and this nightclub was pretty much empty. I don't know what it was that made this club seem so unattractive. Was it the ridiculously smokey room that makes everyone feel like they have COPD? I guess we'll never know. I give Rumor three stars for its music. I don't think there was a DJ that night, but they still played Top 40s, so props for that :) There is also a cool stairway that leads up to an elevated dance area for those of you who feel bold enough to perform in front of everyone! read more

Hey this club has a dress code. And most of the athletes and professionals in the city love the atmosphere. Reservations are needed to get a table. You only have to meet the bottle minimum on nights where there are special events. Rumor has a weird vibe to me. It's not really big inside, so when its packed its PACKED. You can barely even move around. Not to talk about all the smoking that goes on in there. Very interesting crowd. The music is always great though. But if your visiting Cleveland for the first time, not somewhere I would necessarily go. read more

The place itself is ok for an average Saturday night. Me and my friends got "VIP tables" for new years and definitely overpaid. The tables were the size of a large pizza tray, the ice bucket took up most of the "table". The area was basically at the edge of the dance floor and roped off, so it was very cramped. I would hardly consider it VIP. My friend who booked it for us was mislead into believing if we paid the extra for the tables, we would still have open bar (which is what general admission for $75 got you). Then when we got there we were told that it wasn't. It didn't make sense to pay more for a table if we only got one bottle of vodka and one bottle of champagne. The way the owner handled it was very unprofessional in my opinion. Just got mad and stormed off... The other thing that got me is that the event was supposedly sponsored by 1800 and Three Olives, but the open bar was only well liquor... Makes no sense. I feel like a lot of people got scammed that night. If you go for special events, just do general admission, otherwise it's not worth it at all. read more

Rumor definitely discriminates against the women they let in! I remember it use to be fun place to go then they start making security pick in choose who can come in. Black men and ballers are welcome. Black women not so much. My last visit there was in 2014. A hot summer night, I'm tall and do not like to where heels all the time so I decided to where sandals not plain and appropriate to go out in . I am also on the thicker more to love size. And the security would not let me in. He said because of my shoes, heels only he said While at the same time let a mixed girl with $1 fillip flops on right in in front of me. I just left never came back never will go back. They can keep it. By the other reviews seems as if they are still discriminating. I live in Atlanta now where the real VIP come to party and I have never been turned away for any reason. Some one coming to have a fun night out and spend money and time with friends should be free to do so! This is the old Bar Fly, directly across from Barley House. Same type of music as before, but maybe better. Great dance/house music and remodel, I like it much better now. This is a mixed crowd and I would say, 25 and up as well. Plenty of room to dance and not too crowded yet. They have a large VIP/bottle service area and you definitely get the lounge vibe in this section of the club. Still haven't attempted coming here during the week for happy hour and I don't believe they serve food here, but I'm not sure. I have only been here twice. I have visited this place twice now and both times I havent had too many problems. The dance area that isnt VIP is very small however and there arent enough bartenders. When drinks are made they are pretty good. The music selection seems very basic to me as its the same songs that play on z107.9 and looped throughout the night. Nice job on the remodel from the old Bar Fly but this isn't a place I would hang out regularly. VIP area was cramped and didn't seem like anything special. I also didn't like the fact security had to "pat me down" and search me for weapons upon entering. Made me feel like the place wasn't safe. Really disappointed because I really, really enjoy this place but was let down by the service I received this past Saturday. Seems like the owners and bouncers only cater to those in VIP or who are there for "parties" but what about the rest of the hundreds of customers who frequent your facility regularly ( I myself end up here most Saturday nights) and spend their fair share on overpriced drinks and shots? Went out for my best friend's birthday and we were told that she couldn't get in simply because she had sandals on. Now, she didn't have on some Old Navy flip flops but nice sandals and not to mention EVERY TIME we come here she has on sandals. We explained this to the bouncer who was very rude and uninterested in anything we had to say. After stepping out of line to figure out where we would go next we noticed that same bouncer who turned us away let in a girl with sandals and then a girl with red sneakers on. So of course we questioned the bouncer and he said the girl in the red sneakers MAY be with a party to which I asked how he would know that...He didn't...I then replied, "Okay so if I said I was here with a party you would let us in with sandals on?" He replied, "No, you're not with a party" Ummmm okay?!......just a very annoying and at the same time eye opening experience that put a damper on my love for this club. I work for a prominent hotel downtown and would often send guests to your club and rave about how wonderful it is but if this is how your staff is going to treat us "regular folks" I will no longer send any of our guests your way. Rumor was the worst nightclub 'experience' EVER. My friends and I were out and about yesterday. We all had on flats but our clothing was still club appropriate so on short notice we decided to meet up with some friends who were in Rumor. When we got to the door of Rumor, the bouncer said we couldn't get in because we didn't have on heels. That wasn't a big deal we just said okay and texted our friends who were already inside and said we were gonna go somewhere else. While we were waiting for our friends to come outside we saw the bouncer let a group of caucasian women inside. Not one of those women had on heels at all; they had on nike free run sneakers, sandals, and shower shoes. I never play the 'race card' but at that point it was clear that the bouncer was just being racist. My friends and I are african american. The blatant disrespect from the bouncer really upset me, because no one deserves to be treated unfairly. For this reason I will never go to Rumor again or recommend this nightclub to ANYONE else. read more

My friend and I went to RUMORS on a Saturday night, and the 2 security would night let us in stating they were "closed for the night". 10 seconds later, the same security guards let 3 white girls in. I stood and watched as they declined 3 more blacks girls and followed by letting in 2 more white girls. In 2016 when we are facing so much racial discrimination and serious issues, I never thought I would face something so petty like this on a night when I was just trying to have simple fun. Those two BLACK men left multiple women of color standing outside questioning what we did wrong or our personal appearance, when the true issue was the color of our skin.
