Rural King is a farm and home store. I don't have a farm or live animals but I still like to pop in when I'm in the area. Set your expectations - this isn't a Kohl's - there is dirt on the floors and dogs are welcome in this store. There are also some live animals for purchase at times such as chickens or ducks so there can be a slight smell. My interests are usually clothing, firearms, food and some home items. I enjoy the variety and the pricing is great. I like to check out the seasonal 5.99 t-shirts and their Carhart line is great for gifting high quality items people need. They also have some unique food items that I can't find many other places including their own line of certain foods (like salsa). We've purchased their house items and we've enjoyed quite a few. They have employees around the store if you need help and they are typically friendly and seem to want to be there and help. They also treat you to free coffee and popcorn when you enter the store. read more

Beware when purchasing items online from RK, their customer support is the worst I have ever had to deal with. I purchased a handgun online and RK description stated (3) seven round clips with the pistol. I contacted customer support, and they said the pistol comes with 2 mags and basically stated I didn't know what I read? I informed them I had a copy of the description and they couldn't do anything about their mistake? Make sure what you order when it comes in it is what you order because customer service will not make it right even after they said they would the day I called them from the store. Very poor customer support and online support. I believe in paying for what I get but I would like to get what I paid for, RK does not believe in making it right when it's their mistake. After reading other reviews this happen before with their guns, false advertising of the same pistol, I wish I would have read it before purchasing.Good luck if you buy online. read more

I called to check on a background check for a shotgun 20min before closing and the person at customer service area answered when the folks in the gun department didn't answer so the person working up front attempted to resend the call for the second time to the gun department and still no answer so when the person from the customer area answered for the second time he preceded by saying "no backgrounds for any guns came back today" REALLY??? What happened to work ethic? Why lie about it? No way he spoke to anyone in the gun department if he had then they should have answered the phone!! Poor poor very poor customer service. The manager there in Warrenton guy was very unfriendly acted like he didn't want to be there and then as I came to pick up after he called me he then went straight to lunch as soon as I got there leaving one gentleman with the counter full of customers guns box was all smashed had several pieces on the gun that were loose will not buy a gun with these guys. Not great. I needed certain meds that they only carry within a decent distance without a vet markup, so was thinking i would stock up on pelletized bedding, feed, sheep clippers, some fencing tools, and maybe one of those toy farm animals for my kid, and make it a one stop shop. Nope. The flatbed carts are designed to be near impossible to navigate the small aisles, the staff block the big main aisles with their carts to fill curbside orders, the staff would rather horseplay rather than make eye contact with me. The staff never asked once if i needed help. And only a third of the staff are recognizable as working there since most of them wear regular shirts and tiny name badges. (There's a reason Lowes staff wear those ugly blue vests) I finally said f*ck it, brought my cart up to the service area and told showed them the 3 things i actually came for and told them to walk me to them (insanely hard to find) As a business, they did not earn my money at all. Tried picking up a gun I purchased online and was repeatedly ignored. I ended up finally getting the gun but the guy that helped me acted like I was bothering him and he was too important. There is always something going wrong when I visit this Rural King. If it isn't the over active broom sweeper who kept making me move while I'm looking at brush killer when the store was nearly empty, yet he had to sweep that isle RIGHT NOW!!!! to the garden section that was being watched over by someone who didn't know how to work a cash register it's always something. I'll continue to shop here on a very rare occasion, it's not the worst experience, but if it's convenient I'll go someplace else first. read more

My first impression walking in the store was not a good one, first thing was almost by attacked by a salesman (not related to the store) pushing me to invest in new windows (or storm windows)... He did not want to take no for an answer and wanted me to enter his contest (like I was going to give him my address and phone number). The prices are good, but they remind me of Harbor Freight, where most of the stuff is very cheap quality. The store is quite understaffed, and when you are looking for someone, if you find them you are lucky... The Firearms department is quite understaffed even though they seem knowledgeable they have a company policy that if you are on delay while buying a gun it can take up to 30 days (A Lie). After talking to the FBI, they say it could take up to 3 days, but Rural King told me that they are allowed 30 Days (Another Lie). They say Company Policy states that they have to wait, but Federal Law States that they can release the gun after 3 days. The FBI has 3 days to research... If they do not find anything it is put on a backlog. According to the FBI due to the heavy workload they are working denied's first and they are up to 2016, and not even excepting Delayed Reports... I do not trust this company... Lie to make a sale! I have a perfect clean record, if I didn't I could not work in the industry that activity keeps up with such things and I would not have a job. Getting into the store is another issue... Very little parking because they have so much junk in the parking lock and takes quite a bit of navigating. The Restrooms are another disgrace... Don't take your kids in there... Not very well maintained, and certainly not modern.... Dirty inside, out of paper towels. Reminds me of the old gas stations back in the 60's along the side of a highway... Down right gross. I called their corporate center to discuss this and I was transferred to a lady that was supposed to help, but it went to voice mail... (Don't people answer the phone any longer?), I called back a little while later, left a message with the person answering the phone and she is supposed to call back... I called back and asked to speak to a human and not a voice redirection system... The lady called me back an hour later... They Have their Policy and I have mine.... I choose not to deal with companies like this. If I were to rank this company on a scale from 1 to 10, giving a 1 would be more than what is deserving. --------------------- ** UPDATE ** --------------------- UGH... It only gets worse.... Had to get a refund, can't do it in a store, you to call RKGUNS (who still is Rural King). Called these people and they told me they have no clue why I was told to contact them, that RKGUNS has to issue the refund.. The girl in the Gun Department has no clue, why is she even there. Now I have to drive all the way back to the store... Back in the - Was immediately another person trying to sell windows again offering the same drawing... What a gimmick just to get phone numbers to call people. Get enough of that without asking for it. I did get my refund, and they were still trying to back up the same lie, even though I explained it to them. UGH! I do agree that there is some good in everything, had to look hard... They have free popcorn that tastes pretty good.... But go to a Movie Theater... You will be much happier with it. Will be a cold day in H... I've had to go to several places for things for the company I work for, and during this time where people are protecting themselves from The coronavirus, please just doing the most horrible job of any place I have ever saying to protect their customers, and to protect their employees. If you stand in line for customer service, this puts you in the exit where people are passing right next to you. When you stand in line to check out there is nothing distancing you from the people checking you out, nothing to protect their employees Or yourself.The guy Wiping off shopping carts was wiping off with a rag and no spray over and over and over. Get somebody in there to rope off lines to separate people, and keep it safe for people to shop there. read more

This company cares less than any company I have ever mail ordered with. I ordered on line a crossbow, replacement strings, and extra warranty. Pretty simple. I should have gone with Amazon or Ebay! Apparently they emailed me (went to spam) and I never received their correspondence, They cancelled my order before ever attempting to call me. I called them the day my product was to be delivered - they said they needed to verify my account and I didn't respond so it was my fault. I never even accused them of anything and they jumped to whos fault this was. I then apologized for their lack of communication effort and reordered, being told I would receive my product within a week. Cricket....cricket....nothing. I called back 3 days later - I checked my email first....nothing. They cancelled my order instead of correcting it and sending it out. Again, I am told this is my fault for not reading the initial emails that went to my spam. I calmly REORDER THE DANG CROSSBOW. I am told after venting the entire process that "I'm sorry sir, I cant do anything about it but Ill get this out right away" UGH....its been three more days (a total of 17 days now) and I received an email...they have it on a UPS truck. They give a tracking number, but do not have a link to track the package from their email (very unprofessional!), I will NEVER use this company again and I suggest you question your purchase and if you couldn't get it from Amazom cheaper and more efficiently before you do! Rural King has something of everything for the average Lincoln/St. Charles County hick. I should know. On one side of the store you can get a leather coat for under $100 (happy anniversary to my husband!), tons of spray paint (what doesn't look good in aqua?) and if you head to the opposite side of the store you'll find every plumbing supply imaginable and gear for your horses or dogs. If you're into fun you can even bring your dog to the store to join you on your hick shopping expedition. Head to the middle area of the shop and you've reached country store central. I got a bird bath for $10 today and it's the only place in town to have one of those old fashioned fry daddys (my birthday gift, are you getting the hick vibe yet?). I've bought more mason jars than I can count here and today I discovered they also carry 9 types of bottled and canned Faygo for all you ICP fans. Outside you can usually find whatever seasonal plant is out there so it's a perfect place to stock up on flowers or even pumpkins for the fall. Rural King is the one store that keeps me a truly effective and classy hick so if you're looking to convert to my lifestyle then this is probably the place to be. What do you need? I am sure Rural King has it! This was my first visit and I didn't get too far into the store bec we were on a mission looking for a specialty potato chip - Kitchen Cooked Original Classic Potato Chips. They had them. They also had a really nice variety of unique snack foods... Dill Pickle seasoned peanuts...hmmm! :) It seemed they have everything! Its like a Walmart on steroids! Rural King has a nice selection. However, for the second trip in a row, Customer Service and availability of employees to assist with questions has been sorely lacking. On my last trip (when their parking lot was under construction) no one asked if I needed help to my vehicle with the 300# of Equine Fresh. The weight lifters at Club Fitness saw me struggling and came to help. This time, once again, help was hard to find and everyone seemed stressed and too busy to help customers. I finally did get help. But it took quite awhile. read more

This store does not take priority in the health of their live animals. Several times I have had to ask someone to take care of the needs of an animal. Today over an hour after the store had opened their bunnies had no water. Upon asking someone to get them water, it took 20 minutes for someone to come and see what I needed, then an additional 20 minutes and a conversation with a manager before the bunnies got water! It's a water bottle in the dish 30 seconds!!! It took over 40 minutes and me standing there waiting before it happened. Unacceptable! This store is the worst, when it is chic days it is even worse. This store also has a rooster that lives in a tiny coop inside the store by himself. The staff behind the counter in the gun department is very knowledgeable, & the pricing on guns ain't too bad either considering I bought my first two pistols here. This Rural King is under the worst kind of management who doesn't care about their animal's welfare. They have recently been getting WAY TOO MANY CHICKS or ducks at one time and every time I go there, there are always dead or dying chicks either too cold or too hot or getting crushed to death or can't reach the water. The same can be said of the bunnies which are often times crammed into tiny wire cages the size meant for one bunny, not ten. Manager is obviously losing revenue but also losing customers with their practices of mistreating animals. Here's an idea, don't buy 1000 chicks when you'll only sell half that because half will die from irresponsible management. read more

My experience with Rural King s based on understanding their deliverable range. Purchased PTO tiller for Kubota tractor using Black Friday coupon, around turkey day. Great Deal. utilize Rural King for small and large agriculture purposes, 40 lbs of 10-10-10 fertilizer @ $12 and change, plus lubricants for tractor, jeans, cowboy boots. I can easily take a star off for $$ for citrus trees, but I understand that flow. So far am pleased with Gainesville Rural King. read more

I have only been here once and was thoroughly impressed with the customer service. After phoning about ordering a piece of equipment, I spoke to a very helpful young man(Calvin) who when at first could not solve my problem, took a different way around by a suggestion I made and was able to do so. He called me back when he said he would and communicated with others to make sure the transaction went smoothly. The manage Matt was also, helpful and courteous. First off, I would not recommend this company to anyone! We ordered online and its a month and a half later and have not received 2 items. I have called about 50+ times telling them I had not received my items and they were very rude, no appology for the delay they just say customer service will contact you in 3-5 days about the problem. Well its been a month and a half and still nothing from customer service. They will not refund my money or send the 2 items I am missing out. I love to shop in my local Rural King, this is a review about my horrible online shopping experience. I will never do that again!! The site says it ships in one to two business days. That is not true for starters. I put my order in on November 15th and paid for one day shipping. I live in Missouri and my son is in the military, stationed in another state. He had leave for a few weeks, so I was going to leave the day before Thanksgiving to spend my first holiday with my grandsons. The items I purchased were Christmas presents. Now I could have gotten all of them but one from my local Rural King, twenty minutes away, but I was getting over being sick. So I decided to just have them all shipped. On the third day of the items still being processed, I began getting worried they wouldn't get shipped to me before my trip. I called customer service to see if I could pay for overnight shipping or change the address to my son's address. Well, after waiting 13 minutes for customer to answer and my call being dropped twice just before my turn, starting my wait time over. I finally got a live person (this was the Monday before Thanksgiving), I explained my concerns. She told me my order has been packed and was waiting for a label. She told me the label should be put on that day or Tuesday. I told her again, that I needed my items on Tuesday. I asked if I could pay extra for overnight shipping or could the address be changed. She said she would email her supervisor and see if the label could be put on that day. I felt so helpless. My grandsons early Christmas was going to depend on a simple label. I received an email that the items were shipped that morning and given a tracking number. I thought Rural King rocked!! I kept trying to track the package all day Tuesday but the Rural King site for it didn't work. Finally, I got the idea to just check the Fedex site and was relieved that it was to arrive that day. Problem solved?? Not even close!! I open the box and started to pull my items out to wrap in gift paper. When I found out the one item I could not get at my Rural King, the item that was the whole reason why I ordered online was NOT in the box!! I call the number, wait, explain the whole trip, blah, blah. I know it's too late to have it for my trip but the lady assures me it will be shipped right out. I decide I will mail it to my older grandson for his birthday present. She says it will be at my house when I get home. Perfect, his b-day party is Dec. 1st. When I get home, I will have a whole week for it to get to him. I was concerned on my trip because I didn't receive an email that it was processing or shipped. I come home and it's not here. I call the number and while I wait I look up the product, it's no longer on the site. I finally talk to someone. The product is now no longer available and someone will email in five business days to see what I want to do, LOL!! I said I want my $39.99 plus shipping back. I'm sure I will eventually get it refunded but I'm so angry. If they would have put it in the box the first time, I would have gotten it before they sold out.
