It was completed in June 2021. It is is you typical Welcome to (fill in the blank) style with a pretty basic design and concept. It is in nice shape and even though it is pretty basic, it still has some nice art work. Brown has work all over the state that is worth checking out. She is definitely a rising star in the mural game. The mural has the word "Plainfield" with each letter containing a scene that is native to the town. They are not overly detailed, but you get the picture. I like the color usage in this mural. Parking to get a closer look at this mural is simple. I just pulled into Al's back lot and checked the mural out. This is not a destination piece, but something to see if you are in the area and driving by. Anyway, as with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at other attractions or restaurants in the area, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.

On the west side of downtown, local business Al's Donuts has allowed two walls of the business to be enhanced by artwork from local artists. The largest of the murals (easily seen by those east bound on US40/Main Street) Simply states welcome to Plainfield. It was painted by Kylin Brown. A smaller second mural on the south wall by a different artist shows a full sized gorilla carrying an oversized donut from Al's by artist JD Coles. The large mural is colorful, while the smaller is somewhat whimsical. I am more familiar with the work of Brown. She has at least two other murals in Mooresville that I have also reviewed on Yelp for those who are interested. I might have given the Plainfield mural a slightly higher rating if it had more artistic flair than such a literal main street appearance. Personal note: my wife and I tried hiring Brown for a mural on our own property, but after several attempts to hire her, she failed to show up at a scheduled meeting and did not return further calls/attempts to reschedule. Her pricing is more affordable than some of the other local artists I've seen getting a lot of work around the metro area. The Indianapolis Airport has always been on the front end of art. It is an art gallery in disguise…read more You will find this piece at the end of the arrivals area, outside of baggage claim. It is the center piece of a little plaza area over there. It is an eye catching piece that is the work of St Louis artist Nathan Pierce. It is an abstract piece made of acrylic and steel. It is currently a temporary piece that is slated to be on exhibit at the airport from January 2022 to January 2024. The sculpture is intended to be a visual representation of travel by activating the viewer's imagination to travel through time, space, and color. When I look at the sculpture, I see the letter "C" as a theme for some reason. I did not see anything that made me think travel. It is a nice-looking piece though. I like how the colorful acrylic panels complete the steel structures. I also like the mesh steel piece. It is in excellent shape and very appealing to the eyes. If you do view the sculpture, make sure that you see it from different angles to give you a different perspective. The sculptures looks completely different depending on where you are viewing it from. I do not recommend making a special trip just to see this sculpture. It is best to check this out if you are flying in or out of the airport or if you have some other type of business there. Parking here outside of that can be tricky and is subject to airport parking restrictions, including parking fees for the garge and lots and no unattended vehicles or stopping in front of the terminal. It is defiantly worth a look though.

Whenever I drive through the area near Perry Crossing Mall (formerly Metropolis), my eye is always…read moredrawn to this large sculpture by native artist, Matthew Berg. Berg is originally from Indianapolis and now resides in Valparaiso. While in Indy, he was commissioned by Galyan's sporting goods in 1997 to make sculptures for some of the Galyan's businesses. Since there is a pond on site, it seemed fitting that the sculpture tie in the water to sports. Berg created a fish that appears to be jumping out of the water. The fish, however, is down to its basic skeletal structure. Although I don't know why it was done that way, it definitely makes the piece noticeable. Though Galyan's is no longer in business, it is nice to see the new tenants of the location have kept the art installation. Berg has several other pieces around the Metro area: "Transcendence" (2002) is an abstract on the Franklin University campus near the arts building; "Children of the World" (2000) for the Kiwanis International near the Pyramids at 3636 Woodview Place is a globe with children holding hands forming the continents; and "Bear" (1997) at 56th and Eagle Creek Reservoir (west bank) that looks like a two-story cookie cutter of a bear made of oxidized steel. You bring your own food and beverages (wine) and they supply the paints, pottery, and glazing/firing. You start by picking from a wide variety of pottery fron their shelves (bowls, trinkets, mugs, small statues, etcl). The price is labelled on each item and you add an amount for the glazing/firing to that. Then you pick from a pleothera of paints and get to painting! They have a "party barn" for private parties and we enjoyed chatting, painting, and noshing the night away. Within a couple of days, you can pick up your finished products!

This mural is a unique 3D mural that is made of more than 300,000 colorful recyclable cups. It…read morespans more than 14,000 square feet, making it the largest art installation of its kind. It is the work of artist Jackie Head, who won the job out of 29 other applicants. Head specializes in 3D art and her work can be seen all around the city. Making this piece was no small feat. This is her largest project by far. It took Head about 5 months to complete. I remember driving by a few times on my way to catch a flight, wondering what they were doing over there. The mural is very colorful and eye catching and has colorful geometric patterns running its length. You will find one of the designs resemble a checkered flag (a nod to the Indy 500). Another resembles the rainbow carpet from the old IND terminal. The best view is from the road approaching the terminal. It may be hard to find a spot to park and enjoy the piece from there though as it is marked as no parking. You can also view the mural from the cell-phone lot. You can get a longer more stationary look from there, but it is like looking at a sweater from the backside, you can kind of see it, but it is not the best. The mural is intended to be viewed from the road entering the airport. I am not saying that I pulled over on the side of the road to get a quick look, but you will have to be creative to get a look from the road as the mural is intended to be. If you want to catch the mural, you have time. It will be on display for at least 3 years and do not worry about the cups that make it up. They will either be reused or recycled. I really like this mural. You do not see many like this. I could only imagine what it took to bring this project together. I understand that this is not a destination piece and would probably only be viewed by someone visiting the airport, either to fly out, drop someone off or pick someone up. I am glad that I was able to check it out and share my experience.

Parking is usually available since it sits back off of Rockville Road (behind Burger King) in the strip center. The store is filled with a large amount of gift items or items you personally might enjoy. They have all the typical Hallmark holiday decor intermixed with other brands. Right now they are filled with Valentine and Easter items. I'm here for a sympathy card and they have a decent selection. It's always difficult selecting a sympathy card as what can you say to comfort your family or friend. Hopefully a card will let them know you're thinking of them. Items range from holiday items, stuffed animals, sports themed gifts, home decor, collectibles, gift bags, wrapping paper and so much more. I enjoy browsing the store for new arrivals. I find stocking stuffers, future birthday and anniversary cards and gifts often plus much more. The staff is always helpful and friendly. Stop in and browse the store.

The Camp is a beautiful venue for events while the affordable rental fees help support the children and youth programs for at-risk youths. The Camp began in 1928 and you or your grandparents may be familiar with their history of serving ill children. Jameson Camps' focus is on children's social, behavioral and emotional challenges and equipping them for productive and responsible lives. Responding to an increasing concern for childhood obesity a Wellness Camp was launched in 2006, a creative program that utilizes camp to teach healthy choices in fitness and nutrition. Last, but certainly not least, is their Camp Tataya Mato for children affected by HIV/AIDS which is the only residential camp to these special children in Indiana. Several sizes of venues are available or even rent the entire camp for the ideal wedding or family reunion where your event along with family and friends are residing at one location. The Lodge and Cabins are so affordable compared to the cost of hotel rooms and transportation for your wedding guests, business associates or family traveling. The Lodge is its own large facility and sleeps 24 for $450. What a savings compared to a Hotel!! There are four meeting areas of various sizes and prices along with 6 cabins for lodging that accommodates 24 in each plus don't forget The Lodge. Colonel Harvey Weir Cook is the namesake of the road that the Indianapolis airport is located. He…read morewas a pioneer of commercial and military aviation in Indiana and is credited with founding the city's first principal airport and predecessor of IND, the Indianapolis Municipal Airport, in 1931. This statute is the work of Terre Haute Artist Bill Wolfe, and it took him two years to complete. It sits prominently at the center entrance to the Airport's Ticketing Hall and greets visitors as they are coming off the escalator from the parking garage and rental car area. It stands seven-feet tall, is made of bronze and sits on a 1 ton limestone base. They statue weighs about 500 bounds itself. The statue is flanked by two small metals stands holding a black informational plaque. The one on the left lists some of Colonel Cook's accomplishments and the statues donors. The one on the right lists his military accomplishments. The statue is displayed prominently in the airport and demands your attention. It is very detailed and from what I have seen, an accurate depiction of Colonel Cook. I understand, that the sculpture it is located in the Airport, making it is hard to get to and impractical to just make a special trip to see. The vast majority of people seeing this sculpture will be flying in or out (to some extent) of the airport. Some may be waiting for someone to meet someone getting off the plane, while others walking their friend or loved one to the gate.
