France has Cassoulet. Brazil double dog dares with Fejoada (fay-zzzhwa-dah)…read more I asked the hotel receptionist where to go for Fejoada. She pointed me to Bolinha. It is the weekend and the ubiquitous Brazilian dish is their signature buffet. So everything came to the table! The 10 cuts of meat include bacon, pork chop, oxtail, pig ear, beef tongue, linguica, brisket, ham hock, and pork knuckles. The broth is brimming with collagen--so they offer salsa, hot sauce, and fresh orange slices to resuscitate your palette. Thicken the broth with toasted nut flour if you wish. There's fried sweet banana and yucca, pork rinds and crispy bacon on the side, perfect rice and shredded collard greens. Assuage your guilt with shots of house caipirinha. Think a sweeter margarita on the rocks... The very patient and sweet maitre'd offered me dessert. He's thinks he is so funny! While I have no reference to compare this example to others as it was my first taste of Fejoada, the standard is set immensely high. Not cheap at R150 total bill ($40). But this memory has been seared indelibly into my food coma'd brain. And now I understand why they have such a light dinner. Time for a siesta to recover. !!! Bring a translator (Google translate is pretty good) if you don't speak Portuguese. Inhouse WiFi available.

This is supposedly one of the best ramen houses in São Paulo, and because of that, this place gets…read morefilled up pretty quickly. Be prepared to wait or come early! Upon walking in, the establishment is bright and smartly decorated. Behind the bar, you can see the ramen chefs working their magic into each bowl. The ramen itself is decently priced (definitely cheaper than the US!), though I was a little disappointed that their tonkotsu ramen wasn't really made from tonkotsu broth, but rather, it was salt or soy based. That being said, it was more than enough to satisfy my ramen craving.

Note the "oh, this is gonna be good" vibe when you enter for the first time. It's been a family-run Liberdade staple for many years and is usually packed with locals at most times of the day. At lunch there may be a wait, however the Maitre-D flips tables fast. Aska serves up big bowls of delicious Ramen and Beef/vegetarian gyozi. Food comes fast, and udon noodle refills are often necessary. Chimchi, cold pickled vegetable salad is also tasty. Goes along well with an agua com gas or Guarana Antarctica. Prices are reasonable for what you get. "Ressaca? Que ressaca??" - Brazilian you

I lived in Sao Paulo for 5 months. All I wanted was some Thai food…read more Someone recommended Tian to me, and much to my delight, we ended up moving into Itaim, just a few blocks from it! First off, this is legit Thai. The dishes are authentic and delicious. They have wonderful cocktails. They have lots of vegetarian options!!! We frequented this restaurant several time during our stay in Brasil. The food was always delicious, though the service would range from fabulous to nonexistent. A few times my veggie tom kha soup had to be sent back because it arrived with chicken in it. (And trust me, we ordered in Portuguese.) However, despite the occasional mistakes, and the occasional rude server, we still loved the restaurant. They have great lunch specials as well! A must try if you love Thai.

I am big fan of Thai food and was really looking forward to those bold flavors. The experience was nice but nothing special. My husband and I decided to go back this weekend so I could determine if maybe it was just the chef that night that didn't deliver what was expected. Honestly the environment is so relaxing it's hard not to want to dine here. We tried to order the lamb curry and they "were out". We thought okay this is opportunity to order some completely different plates. We ordered the duck curry and efu noodles. The food arrived and the curry looked and smelled delicious, as soon as we took our first bite we both agreed it was lacking that tangy kick , it had the spice but nothing else, barely even any flavor. We were surprised because it smelled so good! We asked for lime and salt to add ourselves which made it much better. The noodles were so so and overall I was a disappointed and we probably won't be coming back but I will say the restaurant is beautiful, relaxing, and romantic and the staff is very warm and helpful. They just need to get a chef that contributes to the wonderful setup they have there.
