Every time I stop by CVS, which is right next door to this newspaper stand, I have to stop by and…read moresay hello to Rene. She is one of the employees that works there. She might as well be the owner. She is such a jewel, the sweetest lady that I know. Yesterday, I had to stop at CVS, and noticed that she is kind of hiding behind the magazines/newspapers having her lunch. We had some small talk and we both went our own separate ways. There is also this other man that keeps her company. She said it herself. When it gets dark. This LA newsstand has everything from regular magazines, to newspapers, to trendy magazines, little knick knacks here and there. I mean wall to wall. Whatever you can't find anywhere else, they have it here. I wasn't really looking for anything in particular, but just the selection and the way it's nicely organized, always captures my attention. Every magazine has its own value/price and are more affordable than anywhere else. However, they don't have books. That's ok, Barnes and Noble is few steps away! The stand itself is super clean and so is the sidewalk, along with both trash cans always empty. It you are in the area, make sure you stop by and say hello to Rene. Support this stand. They are AWESOME in every way!! Street/metered parking and you can also use the parking next door with CVS. Same goes for the restrooms.

Super cool newspaper stand with all the latest and greatest prints…read more From all the magazines (Vanity Fair, Auto Inc, The Advocate, GQ, Time, Fader, TV Insider) to the Daily Planet... Well the local LA Times and The San Fernando Valley Sun that is and even city happenings. You need it? They've most likely got it! Located outside the CVS on the South West corner of Ventura Blvd and Laurel Canyon. There's metered parking as well as shared lot parking for CVS and neighboring businesses directly off Laurel Canyon. Open daily as early 7am to as late as 7pm during the week, with extended hours on Saturdays and reduced hours on holidays like the 4th. The prices are very reasonable and as one of the last seven stands in Greater LA, Laurel Canyon News is definitely the way. Definitely support your local newspaper & magazine stands!

Will Maite Perroni finally learn how to swim and leave? Or will she just stay in the hot tub with her glass of champagne and that no good lying traitorous boyfriend? *sigh I would never of known. I had to work late and missed my night of telenoveles. BUT WAIT! You and I no longer need to worry. Soto St. Magazine stand carries all the latest news on the telenoveles. If your power goes out, a friend stops by and you don't want to cry in front of them so you turn the show off, if you have to work late... whatever. Soto St. Magazine stand has you covered. They carry lots of Spanish magazines. Bullfighter Illustrated, H, Playboy, Better Homes and Agave, Rick Bayless unleashed... Okay they don't have that one. Rick Bayless is annoying. But they do have some written in english also for those that don't speak español. They have all the latest trade rumors for Liga/Primera Divisíon De la Federcíon de Mexicana de la fútbol. They have everything! Salma Hayek, aforementioned Maite Perroni, Maria Elisa Carmargo, Blanca Soto... Anyways... Oh, and they have a TV set and always a couple people milling about gossiping. I have no clue what they are saying but it makes me laugh.

If you read Spanish these will give you a much broader perspective on the world. Soto Street also sells Mexican newspapers La Reforma (middle of the road) and Excelsior (right leaning). And of course they also carry People en Español, Vanidades, Telenovelas, and best of all, Spanish language graphic paperback novels.
