Husband is a DV with adverse personal and family health history. First colonoscopy is scheduled for Monday and he still doesn't have his prep or instructions. He had to take time off work to chase down office staff to find out what the issue was, not the other way around. So proper prep protocol for medication and diet is not going to be able to be adhered to at this point. If anything happens to him as he is our sole income earner and we have a child with cerebral palsy, I will definitely be seeking legal advice to action against this office. read more

I have no idea if the dr is good or bad. My issue is with the waiting drivers. A patient cannot drive themselves home due to anesthesia used in the procedure- so the driver has wait in the waiting room. There are no tables on which to place a drink, the chairs are either threadbare or with broken springs that make it very difficult to get out of. Dr Havranek has been my mother's gastrologist for years. At 93 we've seen a number of doctors, over the years including physicians at the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale. The Mayo Clinic is World Class. Presidents, Sen. John McCain and foreign leaders have all been seen there. What makes the Mayo Clinic so special is they have top notch physicians and they can shuffle your appointments, lab work, and imaging, if someone is running behind, so your time is not wasted. Everyone is extremely kind too! I've gone to their clinic in Rochester MN as well. 5 STAR However I can honestly say, that you cannot find a more knowledgeable caring doctor than Dr Havranek in SA. 5 He explains the procedure and results to your satisfaction. He patiently listens, to your questions too. Dr H. will discuss his findings with your other physicians to make sure, that there aren't any concerns, in the event that you are needing surgery. If we didn't believe Dr Havranek was best for my mom, we simply would go elsewhere. Mom has fantastic insurance, as well as we can afford to go anywhere for her care. I urge you to see Dr Havranek, if the need arises. He's one of our top 5 doctors, along with... Dr John Galan, internal medicine, Dr Robert Schnitzer, cardiologist, Dr Jairo Melo, pulmonologist, Dr Amy Lang, oncologist. We believe these physicians are the best, in their field. We also like STRIC for X-rays, MRI and any other imaging you may need. What's nice about STRIC is, that all of mom's doctors have access to her digital images, so they can evaluate what's best for her treatment. I do wish they would comp parking, at all locations not just 21 Spurs Lane. They also need to have larger seating for those of us, that are on the plus size. I recently made my complaint, and trust they will accommodate those of us with disabilities. If not, I'll certainly will contact management and impress upon them the need. I am so glad that I found Dr. Havranek on Yelp and decided to make an appointment; I believe he is the best choice there is! When I started to have severe GI issues, I booked an appointment with my local and current GI doctor only to be asked generic survey like questions, yelled at, and told I had IBS before being pushed out of the exam room. Luckily, I had made an appointment with Dr. Havranek as well in case I needed a second opinion. It is pretty obvious that his staff is highly trained; they are always polite, knowledgeable, and available. When I first met Dr. Havranek, he shook my hand, was so polite, and asked individualized questions to my GI needs. He was even able to predict some of my symptoms before I got sick showing that he was listening to me and knows his stuff! If you didn't know, he does research at his facility, which helps me to trust his expertise even more because he is constantly learning about the digestive system and not just using outdated information. When I had to meet with the nurse practitioner, instead of him, I was anxious, but now I am ashamed of my preconceived notions. The nurse was very helpful, informative, and polite (if you visit this practice, you can see that politeness is a value). I came unprepared to my appointment, which was completely my fault, and the nurse went out of her way to ensure that the reason for my visit was met. The second time I had an appointment with Dr. Havranek, the nurse practitioner was going to see me instead. When I asked to see the Dr., the nurse who took my blood pressure seemed very pleasant and unperturbed and made it happen! At this visit, even though he was busy with other rounds and endoscopy procedures, he took his time to answer all of my questions and set my mind at ease without rushing me through the door. We have a plan in place to get me to feeling better, and I am so happy that someone is finally taking my pain seriously! If you're concerned with price, they work out payment plans and are very understanding. You get results right away over the phone or through patient portal with email notifications. I love Maria, the medical assistant! She always has the biggest smile on her face, is accommodating, responsive to calls, and helpful I cannot say enough nice things about this practice and staff! I have had services with Dr. Haveranek and happy. I went in for my appointment and was told I could not be seen since I had a prior balance. I told the receptionist I didn't understand how I could have a balance since I have blue-cross blue shield and I've paid my co-payment each time. She was very aggressive rather than letting me go in for my appointment and let me work out the situation with my insurance company. She let me leave. I told her I would never come back if this is how they handle a simple balance of $150 which again, I paid my co-payment. This doctor saved my professional life! I had been to five doctors over a period of seven years and was given everything from trying to control issues through some strange apparatus to mediocre treatments. If it weren't for Dr. Havranek I would be in the same situation. Within the first appointment, he had already decided what tests. I was scheduled immediately and was able to get there results and see him promptly again so that I could begin the regimen. One month later I am the best I have been in years. Dr. Havranek saw me after my original gastroenterologist put me off when I complained about blood coming from my rectum. Dr Havranek performed a scope test & scheduled me for a sigmoidoscopy the next week. A this test colon cancer was detected. He then went into action calling me at home the next morning will the pathology report at 0730 hours. He had talked with my primary care doctor. He also arranged for an outstanding Colon Rectal Surgeon. I believe Dr. Havranek has saved my life. read more

Horrible. Havranek is just awful. He took my money for tests I could have ordered myself and for a lot less money, gave me some innocuous diagnosis and then when I got worse, he sent me an email that said he had no idea why I had the issue for which I visited him. Yes, he said that. Then he patient shamed me and lied. He said he'd told me several times to get a colonoscopy. I had spoken to the man twice prior to that inane email. He called again yesterday but only confirmed what I knew from his email. Don't go to him. He was not interested in me or my thoughts about my body and issue. His opinion, in my case, was less than worthless. It equated to a likely incorrect diagnosis to which he admitted when he said he had no idea why I had my issue after having given me a diagnosis. I told him to stop talking because he was too interested in the sound of his own voice to hear his patients. I believed that then and I believe it now. I wouldn't let him see my pet roach. I wouldn't even set my pet roach loose in his office. It would, in my opinion, get tested and get a diagnosis that came directly off the top of a deck of cards marked Gastroenterology Diagnoses. That is exactly how I feel. I do not believe he ever knew what I had. He said he didn't, in fact, yet he spewed out of his mouth a diagnosis. Now 2 months later, I have to start over again. DoI have cancer, I asked? He didn't know, he replied. Neither do I because he did not do his job. To his credit and while he playing CYA, he said didn't like to guess yet that, in my opinion, is exactly how he arrived at the diagnosis he gave me. I'm much wiser and know not to go to a doctor who never lays eyes on you but has a PA do the work. She resigned and I got Havranek. I do not have good luck. read more

Can't say enough good things about how this procedure went, considering it is not the most pleasant procedure to have in the first place. I have had this done two times before in Austin, and this was by far the best experience. The prep was not as bad as I experienced before, although it is what it is. The actual procedure was great - arrived at 7:30, got checked in by very professional staff, got prepped for the procedure in a pleasant environment, and the procedure was done and I was ready to be picked up by 10 a.m. Dr. Havranek explained the procedure and the findings, and the staff were great, from start to finish. And the staff followed up with me several times after the procedure to see how I was doing. I'll be back in five years since I have a family history, but won't dread it so much now! read more

Based on a present or past patient sending me a personal note staying that he was aware I updated Dr. Havrank review. He noticed I failed to update the stars on my review. I'm back again to say since the incident below my husband has become a regular patient of Dr. Havranek and he's a good caring doctor. My husband is very happy with his bedside manner and now his staff! Dr. Havranek is a GREAT doctor! Thank you Dr. Havranek for correcting the issue immediately and thank you to your concerned patient that notified me that I never updated my star rating as I previously promised. UPDATE: After writing the review below Dr. Havranek personally called me to apologize. He also explained that the issue I described below was not part of his office's policy. He was so apologetic and I am so appreciative of his personal call, I am willing to give his office another try. He had his staff immediately make an appointment for my husband for this week! Dr. Havranek said he addressed the staff member in question and let me know he'd be speaking to his entire staff so that this issue won't occur again. Originally I gave his office one star based on the treatment received by the front desk staff. I have since changed my rating due to Dr. Havranek's professionalism and his immediate action to rectify the problem. I will add a fifth star after my husband's appointment. I can tell he cares about his practice and his patients. END OF UPDATE ORIGINAL REVIEW: Today I called Dr. Havranek's office to schedule an appointment for my husband based off his great reviews. Veronica the front desk clerk advised me that I could not schedule an appointment for my husband because I am not the patient. I told her I was his wife and I've scheduled every appointment my husband has ever had to date. She asked if he was available to speak to her, I said no and she stated well that's the office's policy. I asked exactly what is the policy? She stated she could only speak to the patient about appointments. I told her that was odd and I have never heard that prior to speaking with her today. I also explained how I've never had this experience with a Doctor's office. I told her I would be writing a negative review based off what she explained. She said very nonchalantly "oh that's fine." FYI: My husband has always worked shift work, spending twenty seven years in the military and twenty five years on the Police force. Many years were spent working two careers simultaneously. With that being said if I didn't make his appointments he would never have time to make one. Most days he wakes up showers and heads straight to work (If he doesn't first have an appointment).Unfortunately, Veronica the gate keeper deemed he couldn't be seen in Dr. Havranek's office until my husband is able to personally call in. By the way, had I not told Ms. Veronica I was calling to schedule an appointment for my husband she would have made the appointment unaware if I were the patient or not! I'm just wondering if I put my teenage son on the phone would you've known if that was my husband? Would you be familiar with his voice? I don't think so since he was a new patient calling for the first time. My point is all a person has to do is reply yes when asked if they are the patient. I'd be happy to hear if that policy is really Veronica's or if it's the office policy like I was told? Either way the entire conversation left a bad first impression. read more

Dr Havranek is one doctor that you can actually talk to, he will call you back and his office staff cares about your welfare.
