Dr. Finnie rescued me at ST Matthew's during a Knights of Columbus event about 2012/13. I have a serious condition called ME/CFS. Post exertional mailaise is one of the significant aspects of it. This is very common currently with Long Covid vistims. What Dr Finnie encountered was post exertinal malaise. A deep sleepiness. When I came to he was sitting next to me. I did not know him. He very gently and kindly connected with me as a Knight. Slightly later he suggested that i visit his office and that he is a physician. I did. And I miss him as I now live in Northern California all due to the necessity of requiring a microdisectmy of C3 performed by Grant Shifflett MD Newport Beack neurosurgeon. Subsequently all of my symtoms have worsened. No i say something about his practice. A finer staff cannot be found, maybe equal but among the best of the best. Dr. Finnie is the most profoundly brilliant Primary Physicians i have ever had the priveledge of having him as my PC. He knew all the limits of PC and he most importantly knows the best qualified Specialists available. And most important he actually cares about his patients and their well being. That's rare these days. Also candor is rare and that's extremely important. Patients need truth and communicated in a very apporiate manner and timing. Not all patients are the same. I could say more, however, I can be long winded and have learned to try to be less so. If you are seeking what i have spoked about. Dt Finnie is your sure fire best choice and his staff are very caring and thoughtful. And lastly Dr. Finnies managers are the best of the best as they keep the ship sailing straight and narrow. My husband and I visited as new patients. Dr. Finnie wasn't available so I had to visit the PA and scheduled an appt a few months out. When I visited, I gave him all my concerns, including excruciating pain that had prevented me from sleeping or eating. He told me to work out more, since 30 min daily wasn't enough. Seemed to not believe any of my concerns and told me I was fine. Husband went in for annual check in. Perfectly healthy and felt fine, he got sonogram, ultrasounds and blood work that gave us some unexpected bills for a few hundred dollars. Funny that the one in pain got blown off and the healthy one got a bill for unnecessary procedures. read more

Was assigned to this facility and PA Ken Locke - when calling to make an appointment, my call was received by the answering service during business hours. Was advised that they would call me back. 24 hours later, still no call. I called again today and after a 15 min wait, the girl comes back on the line to tell me that they aren't accepting new patients... wow. ok then. read more

It's funny...my husband said the same thing Dr. Finnie is never available! So my husband's attending physician is "Dr Finnie's" PA. Reading the reviews and seeing that not one patient has been seen by Dr. Finnie my question to y'all is....does he (Dr.Finnie) even exist? Just wondering! Shavano Family Practice has been my primary care facility for 10 years. My initial visit was with Dr Finnie, but found future appointments were easier to schedule with PA Locke. I never really got to know Finnie and don't think bad of him at all, but I'll give a glowing review of Ken Locke! The man is excellent. He's easy to talk to, does an excellent job educating / explaining the results of your appointment. I truly look forward to my appointments with him. Plus his exam room has some interesting historical discussion pieces. He's a neat guy. The office admin staff (front desk and office manager) have been hit or miss. Often times, there's a unwelcome feeling at the front desk and there have been times where common sense and customer service are lacking. Call backs are not timely and my experience with their "My Privia" app has been meh. I mainly go for wellness check ups and have this to offer any one considering this practice. A wellness check up typically involves lab work and a physical. I have had the unfortunate experience where this practice billed insurance incorrectly causing me to foot the medical bill on something that was supposed to be 100% covered by insurance. Pro tip: Be sure to ask your insurance company what lab work is authorized under your health insurance policy so that you have the ability to tell the doc and the lab techs drawing your blood what tests they are allowed to run for you and what they are not. Of course you can elect for some of the tests if you're interested, and that's ok because you know you'll be expected to pay what isn't covered by your policy. Just know, this doctor's office will not do the legwork to tell you what is and what isn't covered under insurance. They'll put that responsibility back on you and order their own standard suite of labs to draw. Remember...you sign on their line that you're responsible for all charges. Best to be informed on what you're paying for. In my experience the visit was billed as a medical appointment instead of a physical. The lab bill arrived 6 months after my appointment. Know this, most insurance companies allow up to 6 months to contest a bill. In my case I had 5 days left to do it. Part of this is due to how Insurance works in our country, but still. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a timely bill. 6 months later is excessive. read more

I love the PA Ken Locke. I really do. But the office staff is something else and it's not the 1st time I've had problems. It is kind of hard to explain without going into personal details but basically I needed an ultrasound back in June but wasn't able to get it done. I ended up in urgent care August and they told me I needed an ultrasound too. Finally got it done and they said follow up with primary which is Ken Locke. The girl over the phone referred me to make an appointment with urgent care and urgent care says talk to my primary. So I call again and again for now 3 weeks and today a different girl who answered the phone told me I need to see a specialist and not even bother with Ken Locke. I appreciate their concern but I don't feel confidence knowing these girls are not a doctor or the PA themselves. So once again we go in a circle and asking for the PA to just look at my results and to tell me for sure if I need to see someone else or just get check ups with him. This is so frustrating. The only reason I come here is for Ken Locke but these girls who answer the phone are just ridiculous and uncompassionate. Update: still no returned calls. Now the girl on the phone says that I need to make an appointment to speak to Ken Locke. This is so upsetting because if it was as simple as that, why didn't all these other girls tell me this week's ago to go over my results. Instead it was weeks and weeks of saying "we'll forward it to him and someone will call you back" or "it's Thursday and he doesn't respond to anymore messages until Monday". Every time I call back i have to repeat the message and get different responses each time. There should be a set procedure that every one in the office is being aware of and not leaving patients hanging waiting on a call back from the office. I asked to speak to the office manager and then Ken Locke nurse came on the line to further tell me i need an appointment and there's no way around it. First of all, that wasn't my complaint, I completely understand. My complaint is that why did they have me waiting 3 weeks and telling me that Ken Locke would look at the results and get back to me. I wasted so much time when I could probably have been seen by now. read more

Stacey Gallo, PA. is phenomenal. She has helped me so much and has never made me feel like I was just "another" patient. She will listen to you with an open mind and find the right solutions. The care I have received from this facility is great, I highly recommend giving it a try. The scheduling is a little crazy and prolonged due to high patient volume. Be prepared to schedule ahead of time. I have never had any issues with my insurance. read more

Dr Finnie's practice focuses on preventative care. They use blood tests and ultrasounds to check your health (for example) and I have peace of mind knowing that I don't have clogged arteries or liver damage etc. instead of just waiting for problems to happen. read more

I asked for birth control and was told that I would not be given any because the physician and the PA are catholic. However, I am not catholic and my request for birth control was denied. This is prejudice and I felt judged for requesting birth control. I will never come back here again and would strongly encourage everyone to visit physicians that are more tolerant of others' beliefs. read more

This health care team is excellent! Dr. Finney personally spoke with the surgeon last year when my husband needed squamous cells removed asap. During the pandemic, he used Facetime to communicate with us when we had a medical question. When Dr. Finney has not been available and we have an immediate need, PA Ken Locke has provided us with excellent care. Tabitha and the entire office support staff have always been professional and very kind as well. We highly recommend this family practice for their thorough and kind personalized service. read more

My husband had a very bad experience here, this clinic not only exclusively does their lab work thru Boston Heart that has been sued for given Doctors a "compensation" for sending patients but also when he went for his well check up he was billed a way that ended up with almost a 100 dollar deductible for a test that he wasn't aware wasn't part of his exam and wasn't really necessary and by the way, it was a stress test on the finger which is pretty unreliable. As a health care professional myself is very sad to have this kind of experiences, I don't wish this on anybody. Also, everybody was very nice until you have to contest a charge, then is a nightmare. read more

I go here for my medical needs and never been disappointed. Dr. H. is my primary physician and he is great at what he does. Staff is pleasent, and they work with patients on payments that are get high. But the prices are great. Really do recommend this business. read more

Do NOT send your family members here! My dad was a long time patient of Dr. Finnie. He went in complaining of stomach pain and irregular bowel movements. He was diagnosed with IBS, given some pills and sent on his way. Every time he returned, he reported that the medication wasn't helping. According to my Dad, Dr. Finnie never felt on his abdomen and never completed a physical exam, just told him to change his medication. In May of 2017, my Dad's bloodwork showed that his liver enzymes nearly DOUBLED from where they had been the last two years. I saw this when reviewing his medical records. This was COMPLETELY ignored by Dr. Finnie. 5 months later my Dad was diagnosed with liver cancer by the VA because the doctor took the time to feel on his abdomen and ordered a CT scan. My dad passed away three months later. Had Dr. Finnie simply taken the time to review his bloodwork (like a normal, GOOD doctor would do) - I truly believe my Dad would still be here today. When it was found in October, it had spread to his portal vein which made him a non candidate for resection or transplantation. I will NEVER forgive him for literally being responsible for my Dad's death. read more

Dr. Shaffner is really great along with both PA's I have seen, Ken and Stacy are wonderful! Office staff is very subpar. They are often rude and try to tell you that 14 minutes on hold is not an issue. Also, I came for an appointment one time and the girl didn't feel like turning the system back on to swipe my card so she said "we will just bill you." This office would be FANTASTIC if it wasn't for the very poor office staff. read more

Dr. Holtzricher (sic): I am a new patient of his- Have seen him or 4 times- and he knows that I am returning to So. Cal..that being said. He has been super understanding of my issues- has been eager to find out what's going on in my life and has been supportive of my requests. He has newly been accepted as a full partner in this practice and I want to register my total support and approval of that move. The office staff is very good also- both nurse- Loren and desk attendant Cynthia. They are all great. I think Dr.Finnie is a great doctor, the office itself is peaceful and clean. Dr. Finnie is sweet, flexible and cares very much about each individual patient. I do however have to say, some of the receptionist are a little rude at times which can make the visit. A little unpleasant . As far as everything else goes I think this is a wonderful doctors office and I would not hesitate to recommend it. read more

Dr. Finnie is terrible, callous, and inept. He overlooks obvious diagnoses and doesn't call patients back about tests results. He refers patients, who he thinks are worried over nothing, to other doctor friends of his, even if the other doctor isn't the right type for the issue at hand. For instance, sending someone with a thyroid nodule to an ENT, instead of an endocrinologist. He refuses refills for no reason, but doesn't call the patient to let them know why, or that he's denying the request for a medication he said was needed. He might have denied the refill request after I reported his friend, the ENT, for charging me for nothing and lying to my face. If so, that means he was being vindictive toward a patient. If not, it still leaves him being uncaring about his patients and their needs. Not only do I not recommend Dr. Finnie, I warn you against him. read more
