I ordered some champagne from here online and after a hike nearby stopped in to pick up my order. My friend and I were famished and noticed there is a lunch special so asked to be seated and enjoy a meal. What a gorgeous setting outdoors to dine. We were surrounded by gardens and trees. We were so pleased with our server, Joel, who even though it was quite busy he managed to multitask efficiently and with a great smile. We each received a glass of wine per the lunch special (a generous pour at that). The Pinot was outstanding! I didn't love the Sauv Blanc so Joel kindly brought me the same glass of Pinot my friend was enjoying. I had the veggie focaccia sandwich and my friend the turkey pesto sandwich- both were scrumptious. A tasty fresh green salad and a chocolate chip cookie were also included in the lunch special- all were yummy. While there I inquired about their wine club and after hearing all the benefits of being a member I joined. I appreciated I never felt pressured to do so. read more

First, it was a hot day, not their fault. There were some big fans just not enough for the whole patio and we had to move our chairs a few times to avoid being scorched. We were super early and they sat us which was awesome and kind. The service was pretty slow going throughout but there was a fair amount of people partaking. The wine we tried was not as good as I had heard or hoped for and that was disappointing. The only wine we ended up liking at all was a sparkling and bought two to cover our tastings. They were not worth paying for in my opinion so making a purchase was a must. Further, the person helping us was not very involved and not knowledgeable about wine. She misspoke about the features of brut and the sweetness the wine had. Definitely off putting to people who really love and care about wine and sparkling in particular. We love their Horseridge Pinot, possibly one of the easiest and pleasant Pinots. It's not too acidic and it's really smooth and light. We came on a rainy day and got seated at a cozy corner with some heat lamps. It was nice drinking wine and listening to the rain while our toddler runs around in the rain. We got some food - the sandwich and focaccia and the charcuterie board. Nice little afternoon lunch. When we went they had a Christmas deal, 4 pack for $120, which is $30 a bottle! We got all 4 Horseridge. Normal pricing is $67! What a steal. Amazing deals! Best to stock up. We got 6 total but now looking back regret not buying more Horseridge Pinot. read more

We had a wonderful experience at Russian River Vineyards! We arrived about 30 minutes before our reservation, and they were happy to seat us early, which we really appreciated. There was a live musician performing during our visit, and our toddler absolutely loved listening to the music. The atmosphere was relaxed, welcoming, and exactly what we were hoping for with a small child. There was also a celebration happening nearby and several guests had friendly dogs, which added to the fun, laid-back vibe. We chose the $30 wine flight (served in the same glass for each pour, which we didn't mind at all), and it's a great value--especially since the tasting fee is waived if you purchase a bottle. For lunch, we ordered the Meat Lovers Focaccia, the Pulled Pork Sliders, and a tuna tartare wonton special. Everything was delicious, and the focaccia was a standout. AMAZING experience here! We booked a tasting online for right when they opened. The space here is BEAUTIFUL. They have a gorgeous building and tons of beautiful outdoor seating. Came on July 4th for a wine tasting and despite the scorching heat, my bf and I really enjoyed our time. Our waitress/sommelier was so nice. We had made a reservation for a table the day prior and wine tastings are at the table, which I think is nice because you can order food with your wine too. We ordered the BBQ chicken focaccia which was really good. Light and airy, not too oily, and a little crispy on the edges. Also paired great with the wine. A wine tasting is $30 for a flight of 5 wines. You can share a tasting too. We felt they were pretty generous with the pours. All were very good but my fave was the Chardonnay. Tasting fee is waived with purchase of a bottle - not sure why I didn't just buy one but next time. We were given pamphlets about their wine club membership and there is no pressure to sign up. The grounds are spacious and beautiful. They have multiple picnic tables and a nice shaded patio area. Russian River Vineyards was our second stop during Memorial Day Weekend! We had made a reservation in advance, but arrived 90 minutes early, and they were still able to accommodate us right away. Their (dog friendly) patio was huge, and the ambiance was so pleasant. There was plenty of shade, a huge wooden "vino" sign in the front, and a live music performer. Our hostess was very friendly, and walked us through the two different wine tastings they had available. We chose the more expensive of the two, which included 5 different wines. The wine tasting experience was great, but I wasn't crazy about the wine selection overall. They did have some good ones, but nothing super memorable. I did love that a portion of the Chester Wines proceeds go to animal charities! Russian River Vineyards also had a full food menu, and we ended up ordering the Pesto Caprese Focaccia and West County Focaccia to share between the 5 of us. The two focaccias were a good portion size to snack on as a group, and convenient to share, since they were cut up into small slices. The Pesto Caprese Focaccia was fantastic - great flavor combination! The West County Focaccia was also tasty, but a bit too heavy on the caramelized onion. It was first time visiting Russian River, and my friend and I wanted to visit a winery which was a little calmer compared to the ones in Napa/Sonoma. Let me just say, this place was beautiful and I loved the ambiance of the place along with the live music which featured jazz renditions of modern songs. Lovely atmosphere. Cool old truck sitting in the parking lot. Surrounded by trees and a view of the vineyard. The wooden buildings were very inviting and asking for their picture to be taken. You walk up a set of stairs and you immediately find a VINO wall which is perfect for picture taking. The bathrooms are on the opposite side of the walkway. It was an outdoor venue and it was really nice. They had a food menu, which is awesome as it felt like you were having a picnic with your wine. There was live outdoor music too. Staff was friendly and informative. They checked in on us in a timely manner with a smile. We walked out towards the back to view the vineyard. Last weekend wasn't the first time that I've enjoyed the Russian River Vineyards property, but it was the first time in several decades. My Sister-in-Law and brother are members there, and she'd seen an announcement of a Sip & Paint event on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend. Did I want to go? Sure, why not?! We had other things going on, including both of us not being in peak health, so we waited to commit. At the last minute SIL was able to confirm through the winery that they would take us. Off we went - through the Sonoma County pastoral countryside which got me in the mood to be on the lovely RRV property. Once there, we had to hobble up the stairs to get to the main level, but we took it slow and made it! A few things have changed since I was there last, but the garden patio spaces have only grown to include "The Grove", which is where the painting class was set up at picnic tables under sheltering trees. We were delighted to find that there was a live musician playing his guitar as part of the afternoon's ambiance for diners / wine sippers. They do have a restaurant on site. At the painting event we were able to order wine, soft beverages, and a variety of easy to eat foods as we did our artistic endeavors. We went for focaccia bread with dipping sauce, thinking we might go for pulled pork sandwich later. We ended up sticking with the bread. The menu looked to have lots of delicious options for next time. The woman tending the wine station for the painters also took care of getting the food served. Ours was accidentally forgotten, but was remedied upon request. As we were busy painting, it wasn't a big issue. That being said, I worked up an appetite with the concentration on trying to learn a new skill! All in all, we spent a relaxing afternoon in a beautiful setting with pleasant company and a fun activity, plus great refreshments. Man oh man! Russian River Vineyards has got it goin' on! Not only is the wine divine, but the atmosphere is so fun and full of life. It's bustling but not overcrowded. Their grounds are pretty large for this area and there are several places to relax and sip away while you're here. This is what I'd like to call a "one stop shop estate". You could stay here all day and have a fabulous time! They often have live music and they offer a generous food menu. Lots of different wines to appease your palate, or you can simply purchase bottles to enjoy right there on the property with family and friends. They typically have an array of different events going on during the year, and they also have some local events and deals like their seasonal happy hours. Many times when it comes to these kinds of "one stop shop" wineries, the wine isn't often the best as people mainly go to have a good time rather than to actually experience a good wine tasting. I can confirm that this is definitely far from the truth. The wine is really good and the sommeliers are very seasoned. I came here for a tasting with a friend last year and we had a lovely time! We were seated in one of their covered patio areas and Leo assisted us with our tasting. This man Leo knows his STUFF! Seriously! He was schooling us on the wines and we enjoyed every single second of it. We also enjoyed just about every wine that we tried. It was a warm day out, so white wines were on my mind. Absolutely adored their white blend, Chardonnay, and Rosé. Their reds (their Pinot Noir in particular) are just as delicious, but their white wines really shined for me. I fell in love with their Confluence White Blend and had to take a bottle home with me. There was an amazing local band playing music on the day that we tasted, and we chatted it up with some super fun locals while we were there. This place just screams good times! I'm so happy that we stopped by for a tasting. Will definitely be planning another visit to their beautiful estate sometime this summer. read more

In a recent visit to Russian River Vineyards, we experienced kindness that is worth retelling. It was our 16th anniversary, and we were so lucky that is where we chose to go! The warm early summer evening light was dappled and beautiful, the live musician was talented, and our reservation was ready when we arrived. My husband has celiac and he was able to order a real dinner and not just a salad, and my food was scrumptious. The server, Nick, was cheerful with that experienced air of someone who can intuitively give enough information and connection, but not take over the conversation. Other waitstaff all worked together, praised our sweet old dog, and it was a lovely evening. Soon, however, a group sat near us, and immediately began fighting and berating one another. They had course jokes and used abusive threats towards one another- with one member stomping off only to return at the very end. One began watching videos on her phone, loudly enough to hear over the sound of the musician, which meant we could only hear the phone and the underlying bass of the guitarist. It soon became clear to all around that this group had been enjoying the wine country all day and were visibly intoxicated. They soon began demanding more drinks and arguing that they should be allowed to imbibe more. With a calm confidence, Nick tried to suggest they slow down, that they had already had enough, and that he was unable to accommodate their demands. Nick pretended a mistake had been made in the kitchen and he had an extra flatbread for their table- which they barely touched- declaring that they didn't want to eat anything and only more drinks. Finally, the group left, much to my relief. Nick comped all that they had ordered and allowed them to leave without paying. During all the conflict, the musician's gig had ended, and the tasting patio seemed oddly quiet- but the wine was still delicious, the food satisfying, and the evening grew beautiful once again. I commented to Nick that he had handled the group impressively well. (I'd been a cocktail waitress while getting my Master's degree and knew that his firm kindness towards them was truly masterful.) Just as my husband and I were contemplating desert, the group returned! This time they were even more angry, louder, and had found the 4th member, who were all now threatening to "ruin" and "destroy" Nick. Many of the other waitstaff gathered around and supported Nick's decision to not keep serving them. Finally, they did leave again just as our own evening was wrapping up. Although most of my memories from this anniversary are around this group, my overall impression is that times are hard and we should all be as kind to one another as possible. Nick was over-the-top kind to them, and it was clear that the choices they had made earlier in the day prevented them from enjoying the most beautiful, tranquil, welcoming ideal California evening. I hope that the group was able to get home safely and sleep off their unfounded anger, forgetting their threats, and remember only that they were treated with utmost kindness and respect despite their own callous behavior. I hope that the management of Russian River Vineyards is aware of what a true professional Nick is and was- remaining kind, firm, confident, and cheerful through the whole ordeal. And may I get to return another day to the Sonoma Valley so I can experience the Russian River Vineyard's magical and welcoming hospitality- only without that group's distractions! read more

Wow, this place has really gone downhill! First, they serve out of paper cups now! We have been here many times through the years but today was not great. They changed the menu to a sandwich only menu which they serve these focaccia sandwiches that are just big huge doughy pieces of bread with hardly anything on them (for $25-30 each)... it feels like the food is sourced from Costco... And the service was horrendous. It took us over 20 minutes to get water and our order taken and 2 hours to get out of there because our waitress (tall, thin, dirty blonde longer hair) was so slow and she would not stop talking to us and every table. It was the most mundane conversation on earth - talking about throwing up the first time she binged wine when she was a teenager... really weird stuff. She had a nervous tic where she just couldn't stop babbling on, but then her babbling meant she would be behind on all her tables. She was nice but knew nothing about wine but kept wanting to talk about it and wouldn't leave us alone. We didn't have silverware and napkins for so long so after a while I had to just walk up and grab some from the servers station. I honestly don't know who trains the serving staff but they really need to get on top of this kind of thing. It didn't seem like there was a manager on duty although there was an older man as the host who seemed really out of it. I used to love this place but cannot say I would recommend it anymore. Horrible place- awful experience. We are four professionals who rented a limo to go wine tasting in Sonoma. When we arrived at this place one of the members in our party was bumped by another patron as we were sitting down and a glass was knocked over- which did not break. The waiter, "Nick", without asking us any questions and assuming incorrectly we were inebriated, served us two glasses for our tasting. We asked where the other two glasses were and were told that that's all we would be receiving because we were drunk. This could NOT have been further from the truth! When we asked for the manager, we were told they had left for the day. We spoke to someone and with our limo driver in tow, asked if we were slurring our words, or were seemingly drunk. They concurred that we were not. In the mean time, as we walked through the serving area, we could hear Nick the waiter telling patrons at a table about us and how in "ten years he had never had to deal with that"! It was unprofessional and embarrassing. Do NOT patronize this filthy, unprofessional and trashy excise for a winery. They need a lesson in hospitality big time. read more

A Truly Lovely Experience -- Despite the Challenges I want to take a moment to leave this review after witnessing a situation that honestly didn't reflect the incredible atmosphere and service this winery provides. My friends and I were there recentl and had a wonderful time--gorgeous setting, great wine, and genuinely kind, professional staff. Unfortunately, during our visit, a very loud and visibly intoxicated group made things uncomfortable for others around them. The staff handled it with impressive patience and professionalism, despite being treated with complete disrespect. I was honestly embarrassed for the way those guests acted and want to personally apologize to the team on their behalf. No one should have to deal with that kind of behavior, especially when they're doing their best to keep the experience enjoyable for everyone. To the staff: thank you for staying calm and gracious under pressure. You made the rest of us feel welcome and taken care of. Sipping wine under the redwoods is a much different experience than the views in Napa. This winery has a lot of character and an impressive menu to pair with their wines. During our recent Napa/Sonoma trip, my partner and I had heard about the Russian River area as another wine region to explore, but we finally had a chance to do so when venturing though Sonoma. Before our trip, we booked our tasting reservation through the Russian River Vineyards website (or you can also do it through the Tock app - most vineyards use this platform for tasting bookings). No deposit is required at the time of booking. When you have the Priority Wine Pass, you can also get the tasting for buy one get one free. Russian River is a little bit of a drive because it is pretty remote. We were staying in Napa and it took us a little over an hour.. but the drive was very scenic and beautiful, so I highly recommend going. When we arrived at the parking lot, the scenery was stunning and the hillside was breathtaking. We walked up to the tasting area and the lady that checked us in gave us a warm welcome and said we could pick any open table that we wanted. It was such a great way to start the tasting feeling like we were at someone's home. Our tasting concierge was also very friendly as well and continued the warm and inviting atmosphere. Our tasting consisted of 5 wines (mostly Pinot Noirs) for $20 per person (or B1G1 with the Priority Wine Pass). We later learned from our wine concierge that Russian River is known for their Pinot Noirs.. explaining why there were 3 Pinots on the tasting flight. The Pinots were the best I have ever had, with a lot of spice and flavor. Every time you drank them, you had a different experience. We ended up purchasing a bottle of the 2017 Russian River Valley Classic Cuvee Pinot Noir for $38 because we liked it so much. They waived the cost of both of our tastings, so we only paid the $38 for the wine at the end of our tasting. At the end of the trip, Russian River Vineyards was a standout as one of our favorite wineries (for the entire tasting experience and for the wine) across all of the Napa and Sonoma wineries we experienced during our trip. read more
