Reviews With Photos - Purple Pachyderm wines at Claypool Cellars

We arrived earlier in the day and were the only ones in there. James was freaking amazing not only with his wine knowledge but his knowledge of the area. Took my wife, parents, brother who does not drink and his girlfriend that does. Everyone loved it. My brother and I a bit more being primus fans. Note that they do have NA beverages. The wines were fantastic as was the champagne. It was a Monday and Whamola wieners was closed but the new guy accidentally opened it so we were able to get the full experience. Fantastic wieners. You can even get two at once if that's your style. I'm an old school one wiener at a time guy but it was the best wiener I've ever had and I've had a few. Your uncles backyard sketchy wiener doesn't stand a chance. The inside is very eclectic which is a nice change of pace from a lot of the other wineries especially Napa. Back to the real reason we were there, the Pinots. Ross Cobb doesn't mess around. The profile and layers were delicate yet flavorful. The layers of flavor just keep going. Highly recommend for the wine snobs, the drinkers looking for something different, and anyone passing by. You won't be disappointed.

What can we say! Todd and Michelle are awesome! Tasted alot of good wine! Super chill environment good for dogs. We ended up joining the wine club and left with some Primus swag!

Oh man what can I say about this place? I'm a huge PRIMUS fan and this place reflects the Claypool's perfectly. So much that I joined their wine club. Got a bottle signed by Les himself! I haven't even spoken about whammola wieners yet! The best Hotdogs I've ever had! Mmm---mmm good. I tried to duplicate them when I got home and didn't even get close! If your a Pinot - noir lover this is your place! And if Les isn't on tour you might get a chance to meet him!

    Wine, wieners & friends, cheers!

We love visiting Claypool Cellars! The wine & champagne are awesome and the fancy whamola wieners delicious. Lot's of Primus swag and memorabilia. Super cool vibe, friendly place to sip & nosh. Chaney runs a fun ship; Todd, Paula & Michelle are amazing hosts. A special treat is when the ol' man himself, Colonel Claypool hangs out and shoots the breeze. We love their wine & people so much, we've joined their League of Extraordinary Slurpers wine club. Besides the Fall & Spring shipments of their finest wines, they throw some mind blowing events throughout the year! Keep up the good work. To a much better 2022! Cheers

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and had a blast! This is the perfect place to have a flight and just relax. There's outdoor seating and a wiener mobile - that's right, there's a hot dog food truck. Wine and wieners are a winning combo. Treat yourself to a bottle of their champagne. It's fantastic! Todd and Dave were experts and super personable. We will definitely be coming back with a bigger crew.

Been a member at CC since their caboose days. Fantastic Pinots made by the legend, Ross Cobb. Along with a killer Champagne and Rose. The new facility is awesome, with tasty wieners (not hot dogs!).

This little steamcar is everything you hope it will be and more. The decor was personally selected by Les and some of the art is even by his own hand. The man approves and touches each detail of this wine. Not approved for those who can't handle close quarters, but if you can, snuggle up and enjoy the wine! The wine is absolutely delish! Smooth finish, well rounded, and cool label to boot. It is such a pleasure to know that he doesn't just ride the wave of his fame and produce sub-par wines. The wines are solid and it just makes it that much cooler that Les is behind it.

This is a must visit winery if you are a fan of Les Claypool who is the front man for the band Primus. Their wine maker explained this started out of Les wanting to make his own wine for his personal use. After their first harvest they had far more than he could consume personally thus the birth of Claypool Cellars. Really enjoyed their Pinot Noir from 2012, they sell wine and a bunch of Primus schwag, I imagine this place is a ton of fun when Les visits. Five stars !!

This place was awesome. They pride themselves in pinots and bubbles. They have a lovely patio set up where you can sit and enjoy the sunshine. We really enjoyed our visit and will be back. I enjoyed how different the vibe was compared to so many wineries. It was very relaxed and they had vintage Gucci in a case. Very cool, check it out!

We finally made it out to Claypool Cellars and we fell in love with their wines. The tasting room is small but cozy and the staff was super friendly and very knowledgeable about all the wines. It was awesome that they have a wheelchair accessible tasting counter, the perfect height for my husband since he is in a power chair. We basically tried every single wine and we really enjoyed them all. The champagne was so lovely, a true delight on the palate. Pinot's galore OH MY! It was so interesting to taste all the different notes and flavors since they all have different growing areas and years, it was down right fascinating! We hope to attend one of their release parties one year at Hopmonk or a pink party, it's on the bucket list! Claypool Cellars is a fantastic gem of a winery and we even had a glimpse of La Fawnduh in the back lot!

Visited Auteur Russian River with my wife and two teenagers and had no idea what to expect. Our host (forgot her name), welcomed us and let us taste at our own pace. When I booked the reservation at the time, we opted to do their Single-Vineyard Designated Tasting Experience which was great since we are so used to drinking heavy Napa Valley Cabs, so this was a great transition into the Russian River Pinots and Chardonnays. What surprised us was the Spring Menu that was being offered. The Chef curated a beautiful menu that complimented the different wines we were tasting. Everything was simple yet delicious. Bookmarking this place to come back in the future and hopefully try out their "Food & Wine Pairing Experience"! We ended up purchasing three bottles!

We've heard a lot of stellar reviews for Iron Horse, so we were underwhelmed by our experience. To start, we checked in at the front, got a glass of sparkling to start, and was told to wait for everyone joining us to get here. We waited for a few minutes. Our host ended up forgetting us and started walking off with the other party when they finally showed up, and the guy we checked in with had to go tell him we were part of his group. I enjoyed the charcuterie box that comes with the tasting, albeit there was some moldy bits here and there. We got the harvest magnum experience ($90/person). They offer more affordable experiences as well. To be honest, I wasn't impressed with any of the wines. I did enjoy the seating experience, the charcuterie box, and the mini impromptu tour everyone was given of the production. The wine itself was underwhelming for the price and as nothing stood out to us, we finished our tasting and didn't grab anything to go. As we weren't wine club members here, the host didn't pay us much attention. Worth trying once, maybe, to see if their wines are to your liking.

Our host was not great. Greeting person seemed not friendly and stressed. Standing like that under an umbrella with no benches seems cheap and annoying. We bought wine and really like the Rued Chard and some of the sparkling. But we won't be back and we are locals. Stinks because for a few staff changes and nicer seats this place could have it all. Oh and outhouse bathroom not cool when you are spending money. Like your wines and magical view/location but too many easy fixes for us to come back or recommend.

This business does not care about it's customers and is so impossible to reach it's almost comical…read more I was a long-term customer of Fog Crest. In 2024 we received a shipment of wine where all the wine in the shipment was broken. In typical situations, wineries offer replacement of broken bottles, but Fog Crest was impossible to reach in spite of (literally) 50 phone calls and emails. Since I couldn't reach them, I canceled my subscription to their wine club. Flash forward a few months, they charge me another ~$500 on my credit card for wine, but never ship me any wine (in spite of the fact that I had already canceled online). Again, dozens of calls and emails, no answer and no response. Still trying. A few months after that, they charge me ANOTHER ~$500 on my credit card for wine, but don't ship that wine to me either. After probably 100 calls and emails, I finally talk to the wine club coordinator on the phone. She of course acknowledges my dozens of messages, and acknowledges my situation. She says she will replace the wine that was broken and figure out why they've been charging me for wine I haven't been receiving and make it right. But that she can't talk right now and she'd call me back with more information. That was a month ago. I've now called again dozens of times, and emailed. No response. Called and emailed the owner, no response. This is borderline criminal: $1,500 in charges for undelivered product, a non-existent customer service experience, and an online system so archaic that it doesn't process your cancelation and continues to charge you for product.

Zero Accountability and Terrible Customer Service - Avoid Fog Crest!…read more I'm absolutely appalled by my experience with Fog Crest Winery. We joined their wine club in 2023 and was charged $420 all of 2024/25 for wine that they NEVER shipped. When I called to inquire about where the wine was, I was met with complete silence--multiple calls and messages went unanswered. After finally getting a call back, the person said they only called me back because "she saw we had called a lot in one day." That was the first red flag. She promised to credit my account and look into another charge that had been applied. It's been SEVEN days since that conversation, and STILL no credit, no updates, and no resolution. I've followed up with multiple calls, messages, and emails... NOTHING. At this point, it's clear that they don't care about their customers. I highly recommend staying far away from Fog Crest if you value your time and money. Total waste of both
