I am a big fan of Pachyderm. My brother in law is quickly becoming a regular here because there is a weekly trivia night. It is such a cool little spot compared to the big showroom type wineries. You get the feel of home in here. You also get super fans of Primus showing up to see if the owner is in so that was fun too. The wine is phenomenal. We walked away with a champagne and a pinot. We were in Sebastopol for high tea and decided to try Les's winery. We usually don't like Pinot noir. But after tasting theirs, we are fans. Everyone working there was extremely friendly and helpful. Next time we're there we'll get a couple of whamola weiners, they looked really tasty. read more

We arrived earlier in the day and were the only ones in there. James was freaking amazing not only with his wine knowledge but his knowledge of the area. Took my wife, parents, brother who does not drink and his girlfriend that does. Everyone loved it. My brother and I a bit more being primus fans. Note that they do have NA beverages. The wines were fantastic as was the champagne. It was a Monday and Whamola wieners was closed but the new guy accidentally opened it so we were able to get the full experience. Fantastic wieners. You can even get two at once if that's your style. I'm an old school one wiener at a time guy but it was the best wiener I've ever had and I've had a few. Your uncles backyard sketchy wiener doesn't stand a chance. The inside is very eclectic which is a nice change of pace from a lot of the other wineries especially Napa. Back to the real reason we were there, the Pinots. Ross Cobb doesn't mess around. The profile and layers were delicate yet flavorful. The layers of flavor just keep going. Highly recommend for the wine snobs, the drinkers looking for something different, and anyone passing by. You won't be disappointed. read more

Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and had a blast! This is the perfect place to have a flight and just relax.There's outdoor seating and a wiener mobile - that's right, there's a hot dog food truck. I came here to go to "Les Claypool's wine cellar" but instead just had some really good wine with Marina and Todd, who were wicked fun to hang with. And hnstly, just chilling with some decent, fun strangers over some wine was a huge relief in this COVID era. Sure, they're super safe here. You sit outside (for now) and the physical experience is just putting wine in your mouth. But we sat across from their work station and shot the shit, and when it finally came time to leave, I had to forgotten that we have masks and diseases and miraculous vaccines. For a couple hours at Claypool, it was just pure, relaxed chilling. Claypool Cellars absolutely, 1000% sucks! I can't recommend it highly enough. read more

Claypool Cellars or Purple Pachyderm the two names are confusing & branded poorly. Came here with a friend for some wine tasting on a sunny Sunday afternoon. The wait service was hit or miss. I looked up and 4 people standing around like they were having a staff meeting, a moment later I look up and nobody was around. We were served the Doc wine 4 times from two different people. We didn't buy any wine and the prices were a little steep. The staff was nice however it felt like this was just a hobby or a job for them, no real pride in ownership. read more

Staff was a tad hit and miss, hot and cold. We came for a wine tasting but decided to just do a glass. Quite pricey for a glass with not that much wine in it. It seems like a hit or miss experience here based on who you have serve you. Some wine educators were very attentive to some guest and some were very lackluster. No atmosphere here. You feel like you are sitting in someone's backyard driveway. Zero vibe. Wine was okay, nothing memorable or anything I would revisit. read more

This little steamcar is everything you hope it will be and more. The decor was personally selected by Les and some of the art is even by his own hand. The man approves and touches each detail of this wine. Not approved for those who can't handle close quarters, but if you can, snuggle up and enjoy the wine! The wine is absolutely delish! Smooth finish, well rounded, and cool label to boot. It is such a pleasure to know that he doesn't just ride the wave of his fame and produce sub-par wines. This is a must visit winery if you are a fan of Les Claypool who is the front man for the band Primus. Their wine maker explained this started out of Les wanting to make his own wine for his personal use. After their first harvest they had far more than he could consume personally thus the birth of Claypool Cellars. Really enjoyed their Pinot Noir from 2012, they sell wine and a bunch of Primus schwag, I imagine this place is a ton of fun when Les visits. Five stars !! read more

This place was awesome. They pride themselves in pinots and bubbles. They have a lovely patio set up where you can sit and enjoy the sunshine. We really enjoyed our visit and will be back. We finally made it out to Claypool Cellars and we fell in love with their wines. The tasting room is small but cozy and the staff was super friendly and very knowledgeable about all the wines. It was awesome that they have a wheelchair accessible tasting counter, the perfect height for my husband since he is in a power chair. We basically tried every single wine and we really enjoyed them all. The champagne was so lovely, a true delight on the palate. Pinot's galore OH MY! It was so interesting to taste all the different notes and flavors since they all have different growing areas and years, it was down right fascinating! We hope to attend one of their release parties one year at Hopmonk or a pink party, it's on the bucket list! Claypool Cellars is a fantastic gem of a winery and we even had a glimpse of La Fawnduh in the back lot! read more

Me and my fella had never wine tasted before and were super anxious before heading inside to an intimate and immaculately decorated tasting room. Shooting the shit with Todd and Marina (god forgive me if I don't remember right but I believe that was their names!) made the experience that much more memorable and comfortable. Interesting venue! We showed up without a reservation on a Sunday. We stood at the check in area for a good 5 minutes until a GUEST asked if we needed help. Turns out he was sitting with the owner but we stood there for awhile with no service? We finally got seated and got some wine. It was good. Nothing spectacular. 3 different people served us and all the employees were sitting at a table the whole time drinking wine. And the large wiener. We traveled down from Oregon to try some Napa/Sonoma Pinot noirs! We love our Oregon Umpqua Valley pinots and thought we'd try some CA ones. We are big Primus fans and wanted to try Claypool Cellars so it was first on our list. We honestly weren't expecting amazing wine.....but we were totally wrong! AMAZING wine it was indeed! All if the wine was amazing but the pinot noirs were out of this world. We joined the club and cannot wait to go back when their new tasting room is finished. AMAZING wine and service. We just happened to luck out and be there when Les was there so of course we asked for a photo. His wife, Chaney, is so sweet and nice. She went above and beyond for us strangers. I couldn't have had a better experience at Claypool Cellars. Not only did I earn some serious Girlfriend Points, we also got to drink some really great wine and have great conversation. The Boyfriend and I were scheduled to go on a Friday afternoon but as luck would have it, my toddler smashed her face on a table and had to get a few teeth pulled. Chaney was super accommodating and rescheduled our reservation for the next week. When The Boyfriend and I arrived, we were greeted by Todd and Chaney. They asked us what music we wanted to hear during our tasting. We of course chose Tom Waits. Todd was happy to comply and even ran to his car to get his favorite TW selections. The wine was really tasty. Todd explained what we were tasting and answered our questions in a humorous, thoughtful and informative manner. What I thought was going to be a 40 minute event turned into a few hours. The Boyfriend was super stoked. I like Les Claypool's music. The Boyfriend LOVES LOVES LOVES it. Was very disappointed in the service. The sparking was impressive with hint of nut and almond right up front and the rose was nice but all four of us walked out feeling as if they wish we'd had never shown up. When I was there someone purchase a bottle and then got the tasting fee waived then we purchasing two bottle but got charged the $25 fee and for the over priced bottles. It's unfortunate but because of the way I was treated it made the experience unworthy. All they talked about is the rock star and not the wine. It's cool but not sure it's about the wine. This is a small, cozy tasting room where we always come back, because people are so friendly and their wines are amazing. Their Pinot Noirs and Rose are to-die-for - if you love Pinot, you must try them! The Rose sells out rapidly and it is crisp, dry and refreshing. They take wine making seriously. You might have the chance to get a bottle signed by the main owner, Les Claypool (internationally acclaimed musician - the guy from Primus, and the one who write the South Park theme, in case you don't know). Or, if he is not touring, he may be in the tasting room, enjoying the company of customers and pouring wine. The things that sets them apart, beside wines, is that they are themselves, real people, and truly welcome you in their caboose - tasting room. And, oh, try to make it to one of their parties.
