Staff was pretty rude to me during an open house visit. Sorry, but I'd rather go someplace that treats me with more respect.

Wow where do I even begin. I still suffer ptsd from working here. This place is run like a corrupt…read moremilitary school. Way too many people "in charge" telling you conflicting directions. I was bullied terribly by black staff because I was white. They expected teachers to snap at children and get in their face and yell. Pretty much against everything I stand for as an educator. They would hire random waitresses off the street with no education degrees to teach the kids. These "teachers" had no idea what to do and were always in power struggles with the kids or putting their hands on them inappropriately. (Grabbing them by the arm, pushing, I even saw one drag a boy by the arm down two flights of stairs) I blame the school for hiring inexperienced and unqualified staff. I now know why they do this. Someone like myself with a degree knows what's not acceptable teaching practice and they don't want to hear it. They do not care what staff have to say they only care that they do what they tell them to. They expect teachers to be there from 6am to 6pm some days even later. It's disgusting what they demand from teachers. If anyone voices concern they suddenly disappear aka get fired. Just because these kids live in Newark doesn't mean they deserve corporal punishment and being treated like dogs! Between suffering from reversed racism from staff to being told I have to treat kids like they aren't human beings, to complete burn out- I have been placed into therapy to try to recover from this! I get physically ill thinking about how these schools act like martyrs teaching low income cities but if people knew what really went on behind closed doors they would be sick! On top of all that- the buildings are disgusting. Cockroaches and mice everywhere. Parts of the ceilings falling down. Hardly any working bathrooms. These conditions are appalling.

I'm glad, that I attended this year's Eagle Fest. The Meadowlands Environment Center did a nice job…read moreat having vendors displaying wildlife information, children's interactive stations, and items for sale. I was amazed at how many people attended this free event and how many went into the Meadowlands, in order to view the eagles. There were many with professional camera equipment, huge binoculars, and very knowledgeable with ALL of the wildlife throughout the area. During the morning viewing, there were two huge eagles flying. We were told, that they feed on the eels and small animals. As far away as the eagles were perched on the tall transmission towers, they were visible with the naked eye.... that's how large they are. I recommend that everyone attend this Eagle Fest for many reasons. You'll receive a lot of eagle facts, history of the area, and will interact with many avid bird watchers, that left me in awe.

The Meadowlands has an amazing bird population. We visited…read morethe center today for their one day Meadowlands Birding Festival 2019 event. Many newly paved trails to walk along the marshlands, and boardwalk. And very relaxing with stunning views of NYC skyline. We spotted an alligator, 2 eagles, countless egrets, ducks, finches, starlings, hummingbirds, and many other birds I do not exactly know the names of. :) Plenty of parking, dog friendly, beautiful flowers, and absolutely a nature oasis for birding. Highly recommend.

I may be biased but I have a bad history with this place including being a victim of the well known…read more"RU screw". I could go on with my grievances all day but I'll contain myself. The Newark campus is somewhat sparse with construction constantly going on just like in New Brunswick to beautify the school. Unfortunately it doesn't look like any of that is happening and after being here for a few years it barely looks like anything has changed. It's a headache coming down here in the morning and afternoon so unless you live near campus, which also not very inviting, it's just a hassle coming here, parking is a trap if you chance it parking on the street or you pay for a parking pass which still require $5 a pop after the $30+ subscription. Bursar, admissions, administration and everything else you have to deal with all bring on migraines and while I know this could be said for any University this one is especially so. I know Rutgers is held in high regard but personally my experience has been most unpleasant and coming to Newark for class is convenient but only a lesser of 2-3 evils.

The Newark campus is nice. With the exception of the Business School, the campus is clustered…read morewithin two/three blocks. The administrative building (Blumenthal) is found on University (between Warren and Raymond). You go here for all your registration and bursar needs. The health center is also found there. Most of the buildings where you take classes are contained in the block created by University, Warren, MLK, and Bleeker. Within that square, it's convenient to go to classes. Plus, in this square block are the Dana Library and the Paul Robeson Student Center. The dorms are between Bleeker and Central. Then there are the buildings between University and Washington - Center got Law and Justice (law school and some criminal justice classes there), the parking Deck, Golden Dome Athletic Center, and other classroom buildings. There is also another Parking Deck on Washington between Raymond and Warren. If you don't have a car, there are many public transportation options. The campus is located close to the Washington Street stop on the light rail, and there are also a number of buses that will bring you close to campus. There is a lot more passive green areas and places to sit outside, than when I went to school here many moons ago. It used to be just concrete and red outdoor tables that were bolted to the ground (not as picturesque as today). I am a fan of the Rutgers-Newark Campus. Plus it's close to the Newark Museum and the Main Newark Public Library, as well as the Haynes & Co. building and other nice spots in Halsey Village.
