One of the best tours I've ever taken. I brought my mother, two aunts, grandmother, and boyfriend on this tour and Andrew blew us away with his passion and knowledge for this city! I experienced two tours with this company, a walking ghost tour and a trolley tour. Finding the departing location and tour guide for the ghost tour was challenging. Despite that, I arrived on time but other guests did not and arrived over 30 minutes late. My 1 hour ghost tour was 3 hours long. However, I really enjoyed the ghost tour guide and the content was Ok. The content of the two hour trolley tour was really informative and comprehensive but the trolley struggled to get up many of the hills in Richmond and was loud and the exhaust smelly. Having the older, southern gentleman tour guide refer to me as a yankee I did not appreciate- not because it isn't true but because I was raised in the deep south and more southern than him. Asking questions was not encouraged on the trolley tour. read more

Brewery trolley: I went in mid-February and it was a fun way to spend night. When booking 1st time I got it for a gift for my partner but it was so cold Tour had to cancel. They called and emailed me in a good amount of time to let me know plus they rescheduled to what ever date I wanted. They are good about communication and flexible. The driver was very sweet and the tour guide gave us the information we needed but I was expecting a little more about RVA or the Breweries we were going to. The Tour Guide is basically the contract with the brewery and the one who make sure you all get back on the trolley. Went to 3 local breweries: Strangeways Brewing, The veil, and Three Notch'd brewing company RVA Collaboration House. All were very different and we're enjoyable. The Trolley tour will basically give you the down low on what they pay for and what we have to pay for. I didn't have to buy anything while on the tour but I saw others buy food and more drinks. Two out of the three where normal tasting and the other, The Veil, we only got one full pour. But at the Veil they do give you sample if you wanna make you your own tasting like my group did. Really depends on who is also on your tour. The couple's were shy at first but when we got talking it was super fun. The trolley is super cute but uncomfortable to sit it. Next time I would bring a snacks or a drink or two because the driver said that we can drink on the trolley when just can't take it from the breweries. This is better for a large group of people than a couple. read more

My wife and I took the 2 hour history ride Saturday. The personnel at the segway store, the tour route, and the tour guide were all very good and enjoyable. The whole ride was ruined by the poor maintenance of the trolley because the entire ride smelled like the exhaust was being piped inside the trolley. I got a huge headache and now 6 hours later my hair, clothing, and skin is still permeated with the diesel exhaust smell. It is a shame because otherwise the ride was all it should have been. I cannot reccomend the tour because it was ruined by the stench of exhaust in the trolley. read more

What an awesome night! My girlfriend go us tickets for the brewery tour and it was amazing. Reading the other reviews made me nervous because most of them were bad reviews related to the brewery tour, but we had a fantastic time. The driver (Cley I think) was funny and very welcoming. He stressed that his goal was to get everyone home safely, and if we needed to stop the trolley to get food or if someone needed to be dropped off at their car then he would make sure that happened. The guide (Andrew) was nice and very adept. He made the trolley wait a few extra minutes so that everyone could arrive (I'm very glad he did this because the ticket is expensive). How the tour worked (because it isn't explained very well until you actually get on the trolley) is that you go to 3 different breweries in the RVA area. The guide gives you a note about how each brewery is going to work a couple minutes before you arrive. The breweries worked a little different. The first tasting or glass (depending on the brewery) was paid for by Andrew and then anything beyond that you had to pay for yourself. Andrew always made sure to give everyone a 5 minute warning before we would leave one place to go to another. At Strangeways, everyone got 4 different tastings. The tastings came in stylish little glasses and the manager who was delivering each tasting to the table was nice and attentive. He gave the tour group the option of what the last tasting was be as well as talked about the ingredients and styles that went into each beer. Strangeways also allowed you to go back and see the large steel containers and wooden barrels where the beer was made. Next, we went to The Veil. The Veil was fun, but I didn't prefer the way the "tasting" worked compared to Strangeways. At the Veil you could sample a few of the beers before ordering, but the beer paid for by RVA Trolley was just a tall beer. It's definitely personal preference here, but I just prefer tasting a little bit of each beer as opposed to tasting a lot of one beer. The last stop was Three Notched. This place was fun. We got to sample 4 beers,but we didn't really get any info about the beer other than what was on a little info sheet on the table. The live music was nice though and the beers all tasted pretty good. After the last stop, we went back to the RVA Trolley office and departed. Overall, my girlfriend and I had a wonderful time. Everything was pleasant and riding on the trolley was cool. The only reason I am not rating this 5 stars is because I feel that the price is a little high. If they knocked off $10 or did a couple's discount that would be nice. However, if this is the only thing I can complain about it is probably worth your money. If you like beer (or just like tasting new things) you will definitely have fun. read more

I agree with the 2 previous reviewers...this"brewery tour" is a joke. Basically they are act as an expensive taxi service. I have been on tours with other companies and usually there is a deal with the business where someone greets you when you arrive and tells you about the business...perhaps offers you a discount or at least a free tasting. NOT WITH THIS TOUR! We received a quick wikipedia style synopsis before we pulled up and then we were let off the bus and left on our own. The businesses wouldn't have even known we were there or on a tour. (except for Strangeways which offered a discount on your first beer) Save your money and bribe a friend to be the DD or simply use it for cab fair. read more

Be smart and just get some friends and a designated driver and explore the awesome Richmond beer experience on your own. I love Richmond breweries but would not recommend this "tour" to anyone. You're pretty much paying for an overrated DD and small beer glass. Add in the fact that they choose what breweries they'll take you to. I was assuming that samples would be included in the tour but that was not the case. We received $2 off at one brewery and a 50% coupon at another but these were my lease favorite breweries in Richmond. The girl who was the "tour guide" was very nice and friendly. read more

What a disappointment. We recently went on the "Beer Tour" and it was a complete waste of money. When we first got on the trolley there was no one there to greet us or tell us where we were going. In fact, the trolley started driving away without anyone so much as saying a word about what we were doing. We did a loop back to the front of the storefront and that's when our tour guide finally got on the trolley and said hello. It was also the first time we found out which breweries we were going to visit. Very bizarre. The website for the tour features the logos (and pictures from) most of the breweries in Richmond, ergo one would assume (I know, I know, bad move) that they actually have a relationship with these breweries and some sort of promotion, i.e. discount or complimentary drink or SOMETHING that makes paying $60 per person worthwhile. But no. You are paying $60 per person for a "tour guide" who reads you the Google basics on each brewery just before pulling up. That's it. It's a glorified and overpriced designated driver program. From the same starting location, you'd be better off taking an Uber to the different breweries. It would cost about the same, if not cheaper depending on how many people are with you, and you'd be able to leave on your own terms. Speaking of leaving, many people left our tour before it was finished - it was that good. And by many, I mean about half. That's a really bad retention rate considering how much each of them paid to take the tour. If you make it to the end of the tour without finding alternate transportation home, your receive a free glass that says simply, RVA Trolley. No cool historic trolley logo, nothing fun about the RVA Beer Tour. Weak. Very weak. There's a Groupon for this right now, but even so, it's not worth it and Uber would be cheaper. read more

Update 10/8/2017 another fascinating tour. It was a warm and muggy day and more a/c would have helped. Aside from that, Sandy was wonderfully informed. This was from 12/2016 and we are going for our third trip on the trolley today with a guest. A little confusing as to which this was. Definitely the RVA 2 hour trolley tour that meets at Segway! But I think people get confused. Second time I have taken this. Both times with Melissa and Roscoe. If you only have two hours and want an incredible overview by an historian who really shares her passion for the city, this is it. Worth every penny and I'll look forward to taking tour again with guests. Good job! Update that we were shocked to see the glorification of white civil war generals on Monument Ave, which is otherwise spectacular. read more

Such a huge disappoint! My wife and I went on a brewery tour with this company and it left a lot to be desired. Our tour guide drove us and a larger group to three local breweries that he knew absolutely nothing about. We were dropped at each location and left to explore each brewery on our own. Both my wife and a member of the other group were told that the fee we paid for the tour included a tasting at each brewery, but this was not the case. To make matters worse our tour guide seemed to rush us and the other group when he felt that it was time to move on to the next brewery. My recommendation would be to skip this company because the experience is not worth the price and get a cab! read more

I have to agree with a lot of the reviews here- this is not a "tour" it is a bus that takes you from one brewery to the next. I think it would be a great idea if it weren't so over priced. I hate to not support a local and family business but if the business could throw in some sort of perk into taking the bus that's be great. Uber is a better deal. I know they give you a glass (Which we couldn't take into 2/3 breweries we visited) and basically a DD but some historical chit chat or a game....something! It was just my boyfriend and- maybe for a large groups it'd be better...but if you're expecting anything other than a glorified bus and $60/person designated driver this is not the way to go. read more

Let me start by saying, not only am I livid with the experience I had last night, but I'm equally mad that I'm having to write this. Yesterday I married my best friend and had the picture perfect wedding. This is something that I feel every woman plans from an early age down to the smallest detail. My (now) wife has spent the last 18 months planning and designing her picture perfect wedding. Early on one of the things she discussed with me was how badly she wanted to use a trolley for our grand exit from the venue. I knew that this is something that we could not afford to do ourselves, so I approached my parents who agreed to cover the cost of the trolley as their wedding gift to us. At this point, it was mid to late June and we went ahead and reached out to RVA Trolley to coordinate our exit. We spoke with Hendley Ward, who put together a contract for us outlining the schedule for pick-up and drop off. So we filled out the contract on June 22nd, and we were beyond excited. Fast forward to Sept. 29th, we are in full swing of planning and getting the final details together. We reach back out to Hendley to get everything in order, and she tells us that "we do need a final payment of $200 for this, but other than that, we're ready on our end." Within the next few days, I call RVA Trolley and speak with Buck to settle the remaining balance. At this point, all is set... or so we thought. Now we arrive at the big day (yesterday), and everything was PERFECT. I was so pleased to see my wife so happy with everything! As the night wraps up and we are getting ready for our grand exit, our wedding coordinator approaches us and informs us that the trolley did not show up. This was not only confusing to us, but to our coordinator as well as she had just spoken with RVA Trolley to confirm the details of our contract. Our coordinator told us she reached back out to the driver, and was told that he knew nothing about it. How does this happen? Now I'm sitting here with a very hurt and disappointed bride having to tell her she couldn't get the exit of her dreams. And nothing, not money, not anything, will ever get that back for her. I'm beyond a whole other level of livid, and am just hurt that we could not enjoy my parents wedding gift to us. Shame on you. read more

Save yourself a LOT of money and skip this huge disappointment! Just a glorified taxi ride and a cheap beer glass. Very misleading advertising. No flights or beer samples come with the price of the (overpriced) tickets. We gave another couple this as a 'gift' at Christmas and bought two for ourselves. I was embarrassed when I realized we had been duped. ALL you get for your money is a ride in a hot trolley. Ripoff. You have to pay out of your own pocket for every sample at each of the three breweries. Not worth paying a dime for this 'service'. Call Uber... read more
