I am so glad I went on this wonderful carriage ride. I love history and our guide was an expert on the history of Fredericksburg and environs. Well educated on all of Fredericksburg history (and architecture) she was a wealth of information and could answer every question posed! Tony the Pony was the best. Through the (sometimes noisy) streets of historical Fredericksburg nothing phased him. Garbage trucks, semis and tow trucks - he was unflappable. It was nice to take things slow and be able to comfortably have time to take in all the history around you. read more

My grandchildren (4 and6) came to visit from out of state so my husband booked this ride. The woman (owner?) was unprofessional from the beginning. We had a new driver who was apparently still in training and a new mule. The lady scolded and belittled the driver continually, even patting him on the head and telling us he was a new driver at one point. She narrated the trip with some history. I can see adding a little poetic license, but most of this history was pure fiction. For instance, did you know that some of Queen Victoria's grandchildren were members of the Nazi party...during WWI? Or that Virginia had exhausted its soil and agricultural slave owners moving to Texas was what started the Civil War? There was more, but I won't go on. My 4 year old granddaughter just wanted to hear the horsie clip clop, but the continual drivel from the speaker ruined it for her. The badgering of the new driver and complaints about mules being stubborn did it for the rest of us. (Mules are smart, and though this was her first, she insisted on her expertise.) My 6 year old grandson had a granola bar he was munching (it was 1:00 pm and you had to be there early, find parking, no lunch). She asked him to put it away so no crumbs would get into the indoor/outdoor carpeting. Ummm. Mud from people's shoes gets into the indoor/outdoor carpeting. It will need to be vacuumed regardless. Recommendation - just light $140 on fire. You'll have a better time. read more

I booked a carriage a month ago as a Mother's Day gift. Even after receiving multiple confirmation emails and even a reminder a week out, they lost our reservation and called it a "glitch". Instead of working with us at all, the owner refused to honor our clear reservation or then refused to answer the phone a second time to discuss what was happening. We waited in the hot sun for 45 minutes until the carriage showed up for its next appointment and was taken for a quick spin. The driver was really nice but I will not recommend dealing with this company again! -5 stars! read more

INCOMPETENT & UNPROFESSIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE. I found out 15 minutes before our scheduled ride that our (reservation) was canceled, with no explanation. This was supposed to be a holiday ride for my family. The driver was curt, rude and completely unprofessional with us about the situation. When she was asked to apologize for her despicable actions she got more of an attitude and rode off. My small children were devastated! I contacted the company, and the owner (probably the same person as the driver) was just as bitter and rude. If you want to be treated very poorly and left out in the cold on a street corner, perhaps this is the carriage ride you want! read more

What a nice ride this evening, it was cold, but Stacey had nice warm blankets for us and the evening was spectacular. My wife and I really enjoyed the time touring the area at dark and Stacey was very informative and accommodating of us. We would very much suggest a ride if you have an hour to do it. Let me first just say I love horse drawn carriages. Every time I hear the horse shoes in the distance I tend to turn and watch them go by. This place does horse drawn tours as well as carriage rides and they do it well. I do think that I'll probably be starting a new business to compete called Olde Towne Centaurs in which my stable of centaurs pull my chariots and unleashes their mythical fury on unsuspecting tourists. My boyfriend and I took an evening carriage ride on Sunday, the lady running the tour was very informative. We learned a lot of history about the town. It was also nice that they provided a warm blanket since it was a little chilly out. The carriage ride was a very nice romantic date option. The ride was definitely worth the price. read more

They cancelled my carriage due to weather, however I didn't get a refund. I'm going out of my way multiple times, to ask for my refund, they are really bad at responding. Still haven't received my refund. It's been about 20 days since we cancelled. Lady was rude on the phone too in our previous conversation and seemed rushed, then preceded not to answer all my questions because she had to go (possibly busy). read more

Got the grown up kids and husband on the jingle bells carriage. Was worried about weather as we just got our first snowfall couple days before and was like 33 degrees out but turned to be a success ! Our driver was knowledgeable of the area,pointing out historical landmarks along our ride. She had Christmas music playing to help set the mood. Blankets and allowed us to bring hot chocolate. The 1 hour carriage ride was less than 45 minutes. Went for Valentines day, music and chocolates were promised and not delivered. We were hoping for a guided tour or something more romantic. I couldn't wait to get off this tour. I would never do this tour again. I felt that the owner was quite rude and I would never do business with again. I felt that she went out of her way to not make sure we were satisfied, and even said that she thought we were petty and after 20 years of working for the military she had become hardened to petty people. I will never book with Olde Towne Carriages again. I booked a ride for my boyfriend's birthday for 2pm on December 26th. Unfortunately the traffic on the way down to Fredericksburg was horrendous- I called at 1 pm letting her know that we would be late, and to see if there was anything that can be done. I had to leave a voicemail, as there was no answer. I then called a few more times the closer we got. This whole time thinking, there would be a solution, otherwise the phone would have been answered, and we would have Been given other news. We arrived at 2:15- late, I understand, but still hoping for a short ride, as I had already paid for her time for the whole hour, and it was a birthday gift. We saw her driving away as we walked up, we were then able to catch up and ask if we could hop on and finish the rest of our hour. She was terribly rude, and just said "you're late, I can't" and drove away before the conversation was even over. I checked my phone and had received a voicemail a few minutes before saying the the ride was leaving and non- refundable, again in a very rude tone. I am shocked that the customer service was this bad. I understand we were late, but that does not condone how we were treated, given that I had already paid for the hour. read more

I don't know if it was because I was surprised by the carriage but I enjoyed it! Besides the smell of horse poo (hey its an animal what do you expect) and the tour less than an hour which is promised it was nice. I felt like a pretty princess all the people in downtown Fredericksburg that saw us smiled and waved which was nice. Went out for our 10 year anniversary celebration . Following a fabulous dinner, was an amazing carriage ride around old town Fredericksburg. The guide/ owner provided us a wealth of history about the area we never knew. With the full moon lighting up the night sky..... It was a perfect evening! The ride itself was quite fun, and learning about the history was fun too. It was $18 for 45 min which ain't bad at all.

I will paste my email exchange and you be the judge. I wrote: I called you numerous times, texted you and emailed numerous times today...as your voicemail says to do. No answer, no response and no show at the pick up sight. A key business principal you should adopt is, 'a message sent is not a message received unless it is acknowledge.' Your email this morning went into my spam folder. You had ample time to call me or text me or return one of my inquiries but you didn't. I frankly don't care that you were in meetings all day. I worked all day too but still found time to attempt to confirm our appointment. Your automated confirmation email was just received yesterday, well in time to know the weather temps today. You're supposed to be a business. Have someone answer your business calls while your in the meetings. I also didn't care for your implying I should be grateful in some regard for refunding my payment. It's an interesting proposition that the payment is nonrefundable unless it's inconvenient for you. A more appropriate response would be to offer me and my wife (who waited in 32 degrees for you to pick us up) a complementary tour. Owners response: Good Evening, I did not say you should be grateful that I refunded your payment, you are putting words in my mouth. I was not in a position to answer my phone today because I had a doctor's appointment and training with my new tour guides all day today. As far as my business goes we try to be considerate to customers and horses. Giving my horses a bath in this weather is not an option, for me or for their health. So it was not out of convenience we decided to cancel the ride, it was for the health and safety of the horse. Frankly, the well being of my horse(s) are considered far greater than any monetary amount for a ride. I am sorry you are upset, but I did send a message first thing in the morning as I had a busy schedule today, providing training to my tour guides which included visits to historical sites and museums all day today. When you are on tours and meetings it is very rude to have your phone turned on. I don't have someone answering my phone during this time of year it would be too much of an expense to hire someone just to answer phones. We are small, very small. I am sorry the email went into your spam folder but that is technology for you. Sorry for your frustration and disappointment. I had the pleasure of hiring Olde Towne Carriages this past weekend for my brother's wedding. The couple were extremely happy with the services. The horse (Patricia) was beautiful and very brave. The farewell to the couple on the carriage was just elegant. Christine was very good to work with and very professional. My only concern was communication was very slow but in their defense they just had their wedding coordinator leave. She helped and replied as often (even sometime after midnight) as possible. I would definitely work with them again and from my month of research these guys offer the best price!! read more

This year we decided to try the Santa Experience with Olde Town Carriages. I absolutely recommend it, it was amazing! Santa spent 20 minutes talking to our grandson and our family, and he was just the best! Carriage crew was fun and knowledgeable, ride through Old Town was beautiful. My adult children and I had the pleasure of the carriage ride on New Year's Eve. Our guide was punctual and drove us through the beautiful Old Towne Fredericksburg. She offered interesting historical points about the city from George Washington's time to the present. She brought our attention to the architecture of different periods and to the beautiful Christmas decorations still remaining on some of the buildings. I wholeheartedly recommend this ride to anyone of all ages. The guide can tailor his/her talk to what interests you. My only concern is that we booked the large carriage, which was to hold up to 6 people. We had only four, so the seat space was perfect. I think seating 6 would have been VERY tight. read more

I used them about 2 years ago and forgot to write this review (that's how bad they were that I still want to write a bad review 2 years later). I had bought tickets for 7pm and planned this huge elaborate day to propose to my now wife. Well the photographer I had paid for to hide and take pictures of the proposal mentioned 7 may not have enough good lighting so I asked them if I could change the time to 6:30.. They replied in email saying if I could do 6pm that would work so I agreed and they said they would "pencil me in". Well a few days before I emailed to double verify the date and they said 6. The day of, they didn't show up till 7pm (the original time) so they were late, I had to pay the photographer a few hundred extra dollars because of them being late, and when I requested a refund because of them ruining the proposal, they said they don't give refunds for changes in schedule. I was so pissed because they told me they would reschedule and even recommended a different time. Well it turned out that they had double booked the 6pm slot because they didn't do their job correctly and they were EXTREMELY rude in the process and had no cares about it being an important day for me and my wife. Worst place ever and the rudest people. Don't use them if its and important event. If you want them for a casual ride sure, but if its important, they will ruin your important day. read more
