This guy is a punk! I clocked in to my appt at 9:03 am, appt was at 9:00am, first thing he mentioned was me being late. At first I thought he was joking so I went with it, but he continued to scold me bc I was 3 minutes late, wow I was shocked! Then Kaiser called me at the same time I was in the appt with him. He got mad bc I was on the phone with Kaiser. I told him it was Kaiser I was talking to, (not a personal non urgent call). Since he was so mad and kept scolding me, I told him if he had a problem I could see a different doctor? Then he calmed down but only bc I stood up for myself. After that rough first impression , I felt he was not going to give me a proper diagnosis, so I decided to walk out instead. I understand, time is valuable, if I was 15 minutes late, I get it. I had a deeply disturbing experience with Dr. Ryan Thomas Bowes, DO, at Kaiser Neurology. Despite calling Kaiser call center ahead to report I'd be a bit late and being approved to check in, I was scolded, rushed, and even blamed for briefly using the bathroom. I was roomed at 10:55 AM and rushed out by 11:00 AM--the entire encounter lasted under 5 minutes. Dr. Bowes demanded I reschedule three times, spoke in a condescending tone, and accused me of being "playing on my phone" when I was simply reading a message. He also said he would need to rush through the visit using complex medical terms. Because English is not my first language and I have neurological symptoms affecting memory, I wanted to record the visit to help process the information later. Instead, he looked into my purse, intimidated me into deleting the recording, and inspected my phone--an action Kaiser has since confirmed was not appropriate. Without asking me anything, he accused me of breaking the law. I felt humiliated, unsafe, and powerless. He also in and out room for 2 minutes to report to his supervisor. When I calmly stated I would prefer to transfer my care, he manipulated the clinical note to falsely claim that I caused the premature termination of the visit--when it was his dismissive, hostile behavior that shut the door. The note was misleading, retaliatory, and written to protect himself. Falsifying documentation is not just unethical--it is illegal under California law. I've filed a formal grievance and was told the record will be reviewed and corrected. I've since transferred my care elsewhere. This was the most disrespectful and dehumanizing medical encounter I've ever had. Stay away from him if you can. One star is too generous. read more

This doctors is scum bag, redirects referrals cause Kaiser does not want you to see a specialist unless you are in a severe state. If you want to see a specialist you should just exaggerate your symptoms so they can do proper testing. HMO's are a conflict of interest and Kaiser does not provide quality care at all read more

Stay far away, I was originally seeing him because I was having issues with tension headaches. He just threw meds at me. I ended up figuring out the root cause on my own and they stopped. Anyways, NOW HERES WHERE IT GETS BAD! Around Sept of 2022 I visited Georgia for a wedding, stayed on a farm. Fast forward a couple months I started getting rashes all over my body. Saw a dermatologist, she diagnosed and treated as ring worm, they didn't go away with that treatment but did about a month later on its own (it was not ringworm). In late January I came down with a severe intractable headache for weeks with no end in sight, nothing took the pain away and I mean nothing. Not even morphine. I got in to see Dr. Bowes and his response to me was "well it's probably a status migraine, 90% of migraines don't have a root cause" as I'm sitting there begging for answers. BS! You mean you just don't want to put in the effort to find the root cause. You practice medicine, not healing lol. He sent me to the ER for a migraine cocktail. 2-3 migraine cocktail visits later and I was still suffering. He admitted me to the hospital for 4 days to pump me full of all kinds of crap that is supposed to end a status migraine.... Kinda pointless WHEN THAT WAS NOT WHAT THAT WAS. Because of course after I was discharged it immediately came back. They hardly ran any tests the whole time I was there. No MRI, no EEG, just basic bloodwork. They discharged me with a steroid pack taper. This steroid taper messed me up bad! I could hardly walk, I was delusional, couldn't drive, it felt like an elephant was sitting on my chest 24/7, my resting heart rate was over 100. It was horrible. I was frantically calling the office because I was terrified and they didn't want to get me in! After me calling many more times, he finally agreed to see me. I get there, distraught and scared, sitting in the room waiting for Dr. Bowes. HE CAME IN SO ANGRY AT ME, SLAMMED THE DOOR, and basically gaslit me and told me there was nothing he could do and that some people just "feel weird" on steroids. I ended up in the psych ward because the pain I was in made me the S word. While I was there I decided to try nortriptaine for the headache. After being on it a week or so it started helping. Fast forward months (and a few pointless follow ups) later. I FIGURED IT OUT! The rash, the Georgia trip, the sudden illness and pain. I HAVE LYME DISEASE! I found a Lyme disease specialist who did very comprehensive testing on me and confirmed it. Along with Lyme, I have many other tick borne illnesses and reactivated viruses. Anyways fast forward some more. I have researched for a year and a half now my illness and I guarantee I know loads more about it than a man who had a 5 minute lecture on it in medical school. Most conventional doctors are not aware that Lyme disease can become chronic if not caught early, like it did in my case. One thing I still deal with a lot is head pressure and I've had so many people in my Lyme support group say diamox helped theirs so much. I asked him 3 different times and he refused to even let me try it. I moved away and had my last wrap up session with him a little over a month ago, my intentions were really just to get all my refills before meeting with my new neurologist a few months later. I still asked about the diamox one more time and he said no because he doesn't believe I have Lyme. I was in shock and didn't know what to say. What in the gaslighting, invalidating crap is that dude!? You never even tried to figure out what was wrong! I do not blame him for not understanding the disease, But I do blame him for gaslighting me, invalidating me, and traumatizing me. He was the absolute worst doctor I've ever dealt with. It's male doctors like this that make us women feel so unheard. I recently saw my new neurologist and told her my story. I was dreading her response. She said "I'm unsure why your previous doctor was not taking you seriously, Lyme disease is a very serious and debilitating illness. I burst into tears of relief. read more

Be warned: Do not visit this office. My husband was a patient of Dr. Bowes in 2022. He was prescribed mega doses of Gabapentin by Dr. Bowes, knowing full well my husband is a declared alcoholic. The receptionist confirmed the doctor was aware of his alcoholism, as it is recorded in his medical file. YOU CANNOT MIX THIS DRUG WITH ALCOHOL. Long story short, my husband was close to death, so I called the paramedics (but my husband refused transportation to the ER as this drug messes with your mind, especially mixing it with alcohol). So my last resort was physically going into the office to talk with Dr. Bowes and ask for help. I am on my husband's HIPPA, so he had no reason not to help me. He refused to see me. I saw he was there because I had Googled his photo; he walked straight past me, gave me a side glance and completely ignored me, even though he could see I was in a state of distress. Instead, the useless receptionist had some administrative guy come out to see me, which proved futile. Dr. Bowes never followed up, and had merely scheduled a virtual appointment set for months later, even though you are supposed to follow the patient closely on this drug). Needless to say, I finally drove my husband to hospital, and we subsequently cancelled his virtual appointment with Dr. Bowes. In my opinion, Dr. Bowes should lose his medical license.
