Dr. Nikkhou is always thorough and takes adequate time to consider my health and answer my questions. I wish his staff was equally diligent. Each time my pharmacy sends a refill request, it takes weeks for them to respond. Most of the time I have to call and leave a message begging for someone to look in the fax box for my refill request because I am missing doses of my meds. It seems he just has too many patients. He hired a PA a while back to help with the workload but it hasn't improved the Rx refill issue. read more

I really like this doctor; he listens and is very knowledgeable, but scheduling an appointment and actually seeing him is problematic. My previous appointment was rescheduled at the last minute because he was unavailable. During my last visit, I entered a waiting room where 20 parents were already waiting, some of whom were complaining about the long wait. I waited patiently for 50 minutes, during which the reception gave no indication that the wait would be lengthy. When I finally inquired about the possibility of rescheduling, I was encouraged to do so without any explanation. I walked out of the waiting area without rescheduling, and I saw another doctor instead of Dr. Nikkhou. read more

I went to Dr Nikkhou in July of 2024 with a PSA of 7.4 after initial examination he said I have enlarged Prostate and I need to do MRI done I did and went back for follow up . I did a Lab test my PSA was 7.4 and the result of MRI was send to him , he told me I might have a infection he did not order any antibiotics and told me to make appointment for 6 months from know. He has failed the standard of care so bad I end up a week after seeing him i was admitted to the Lis Robles Hospital with a severe prostate infection and by going to another doctor I find out I had prostate Cancer I had to do a surgery and after 10 months of suffering I just feel better I want everyone to know my experience and please don't trust this doctor, his staff and him are more concerned about your insurance and how much they can make a profit out of you and your insurance it is sad that along all this nice and caring doctor they are few like him around please think twice before you make and appointment with him. read more

We have trusted him for years with my husband's care and medical needs. Dr Nikkhou seems like a nice man and competent enough. However, his staff is the reason he is going to be dumped. Taking my husband to Mayo and needed records. 3 times we were told they would email them. Didn't happen. Even went in there twice. The third time were told they could give them immediately if paid $25.00 Did it. The staff does not answer the phone. Messages left are not returned. After prostate surgery and the cath removed was told to call if any issues. In front of the staff I was told by the medical assistant to call her. Well, 2 days later called twice couldn't get hold of anyone there to let them know he was having issues and was going to the hospital. Bilateral blood clots both lungs, that almost killed him. I finally got hold of the staff, late that afternoon. The dr called back later. Said he would check in with me in a few days. It didn't happen. I left a message asking for the results of his biopsy and asked to be called back. Haven't heard a word. I expect problems getting records because it is time for a new dr. I don't know if Dr. Nikkhou was just having a bad day, but this was my experience with him and I sent him this letter, waited several weeks and he never replied. Dr. Nikkhou It gives me no pleasure to write this letter to you criticizing the standard of care you provided me, which I believe you and your professional contemporaries would agree was woefully substandard to the point that it presented a serious risk to my health. Here are some key areas of that failure followed by a narrative of events. 1. Failure to prescribe an antibiotic before and after the Cystoscopy to prevent a UTI; this is a medical standard followed by others. This failure resulted in my contracting a UTI and having to present to UCLA Immediate care for diagnosis, treatment and the antibiotic. 2. Failure to drain my very over filled over extended bladder even though you noted it was endangering my kidney's because the urine was backing up into them and causing them to swell up. You even mentioned that if not done it will result in kidney failure and the need for lifetime dialysis. This resulted in me having to report to Immediate Care with stage three kidney failure and of course the UTI. Ultimately, I was catharized by another urologist who called it critical. 3. Failure to administer the lidocaine. (See the narrative that follows). If you did administer it which I question, you did not allot any time whatsoever for it to numb the area. 4. Failure to check if I could void before leaving the office as your procedure notes suggests and failure to follow up the next day after the invasive Cystoscopy to see if I had any negative consequences which of course I did as noted above. Here's the narrative of events: During the first of my two visits as a new patient on 19 April 23, your examination discovered that my prostate was very, very large, the word you used to describe it was "gi-normous" and that my bladder due to urinary retention was very large and filled. You then ordered a Sonagram which was conducted by Renaissance Imaging on 2 May 23 which not only confirmed your findings but indicated that my bladder was greatly distended and filled with urine that would not void. My second visit on 19 May 23 was for you to perform a Cystoscopy. Your written instructions to me for the procedure stated that the lidocaine anesthesia is not covered by some insurance companies and if I wanted it, I would have to pay $20. Additionally, your office told me that I would have to come in earlier than my appointment to provide enough time to administer the lidocaine and to allot time for its numbing effect to take place. A few days before the procedure I called your office to enquire if they wanted me to come fifteen minutes earlier or a half hour to purchase and administer the lidocaine that I definitely wanted. There was no answer, so I left a voice mail message explaining the above in detail. Receiving no reply, I did not want to take any chances and arrived half an hour earlier than my scheduled appointment for the Cystoscopy. Immediately upon my arrival I went to the front desk, checked in and told the attendant I wanted to purchase the lidocaine. When I presented my credit card, she told me it would be a 20-cent charge for using my credit card. While I understand a merchant is charged for credit card usage, the 20-cent charge seemed a bit petty given the professional services; I was not angered but thought it somehow cheapened your practice. BTW, my insurance carrier Medicare/Anthem does cover the cost of lidocaine. After paying for the lidocaine, I sat in your waiting room until half an hour after my scheduled time when your assistant came to get me. You apologized saying the desk did not let you know I was waiting. From that point forward you appeared to be in a frantic rush as evidenced by your immediately beginning to insert the scope. When I asked about the lidocaine you answered that you already administered it. I question that because I would have felt it and even if you had, no time whatsoever was allotted for it to take effect. And when I complained of the pain you appeared to squeeze a large pile of lubricant on the table. After viewing my bladder and showing me the muscles, you said I need a TURP. I answered okay schedule me. You then said your staff will do so. When you and your assistant started leaving the room, I quickly asked if we were done, and I should get dressed and could go. You told me yes and the two of you were out the door. When I started to dress, I noticed that my genital area was soaked with what I assumed was lubricate and I had nothing to dry it with - so I used the paper from the bed. Then got dressed and left. Weeks later by the way, your office charged me twenty dollars to print five pages of your medical records so I could take them to another doctor. I've never been charged for such copies before. read more

Dr. Nikkhou is the best. I had an issue with my testosterone level, and my primary doctor was not able to help me. Dr. Nikkhou explains my choices really well. I'm taking a really safe medicine, and after a month, my testosterone level goes back to normal. I definitely recommend him. read more

I was admitted from the ER for Renal Stones and Pancreatitis and Dr Nikkhou was called. When he came it he seemed very bothered to come see me. His bed side manner was bad and seemed pressed for time. After, he discussed some options regarding lithotripsy he soon lost interest when I mentioned that I had a Urologist. The problem was that my Urologist was located far away. Dr Nikkhou completely lost interest and had the Dr from the Hospital discharge me in while I was having a flare up. Do not recommend. Poor patient care especially while being in terrible pain. read more

My 80 year old dad recently had a stroke and was having issues with regulating urination. ( I should add that I had already taken him to a different Dr. at UCLA - that simply prescribed Floxmax without any real discussion, research or attempt to understand the underlying situation - it was like "oh urination problems - take Floxmax." note - the Flomax prescription did not help) Based on my research, I learned that Dr. Nikkhou was a foremost urologist, so I scheduled an appointment for my dad. My dad was skeptical given the previous visit to the other doctor. By the way, we were scheduled in quickly. The visit to see Dr. Nikkhou was fantastic and the complete opposite of the previous experience with the other Doctor at UCLA. We were immediately seen upon our arrival and Dr. Nikkhou himself took the time to personally listen to the problems my dad was having and asked the right probing questions to zero in on the issue. He ran some tests - including a bladder ultrasound (which he personally performed.) He then took great care to explain different options for treatment - making sure my dad and I understood the pros and cons of each. On the way home, my dad told me this was the best Dr. visit he has ever had - and couldn't believe how much time Dr. Nikkhou personally spent with him. My dad also loved the office - it doesn't feel like your typical Doctors office - it is very high end. The treatment proscribed for my dad was fantastic and is working! If you or someone you knows needs to see a Urologist - look no further - Dr. Kiavash Nikkhou is the absolute best. At 29 weeks pregnant, I was admitted to the hospital with a kidney stone. I was told the doctor on call would be paged. I thought about the urologists I had seen before and assumed the worst. Man did I luck out that Dr Nikkhou was on call that day. From minute one, he treated me with kindness and respect. He explained my condition thoroughly and answered all my questions without rushing me to finish up and make decisions. My family was also impressed with his bedside manner. I required a saddle block and stent placement. I was terrified for my baby. The procedure was more complicated then anticipated but Dr Nikkhou reassured me as he worked and took his time to give me the best possible outcome. I required an additional surgery after delivery to take care of the stone and change out the stent. Finally the stent was removed in office a week later. I cannot speak highly enough of this doctor. He held my hand when I was scared and put up with my hormonal crying fits. He took excellent care of my baby and I and I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone. First... effective; the most important aspect of a medical professional. But, almost as important, Dr. Nikkhou is informative and patiently (and personally) answered every one of my many questions, which allowed me to be very comfortable with the decisions he and I were making about my care. He and his staff are very accessible. And, he runs a very efficient operation; I cannot remember having to wait for my appointment to start, which is incredible in light of how attentive he is. I am rating Dr. Nikkhou very low for 3 reasons: 1) Poor Medicine Recommendations: I told him the 1st meds he prescribed me didn't work. He prescribed me a different med that didn't work either. I actually had to drop him as my Dr. and find someone else to get the right meds. 2) Lack of Sharing Important Med Details: I actually ended up almost hurting myself permanently because of the important instructions he failed to warn me about when he first prescribed my meds. My new doctor was shocked that he failed to do so! 3) Not Returning Phone Calls: Once I called Nikkhou for 4 days in a row with no reply, and then he gave me the wrong info! I told him my meds weren't working and asked if there was something a little stronger than what he last prescribed but less strong than what he first prescribed. He said No. Funny thing was, when I finally dumped him as my Dr. and conslted with another urologist, he gave me just the thing I had asked Nikkhou for. Aaaargh! read more

Dr. Nikkhou is such a blessing. My husband had a botched kidney stone removal surgery and had been to 32 appointments, on 8 prescriptions and 87 days of antibiotics. All while being told he was fine nothing was wrong. Well something is and was wrong. Thankfully Dr. Nikkhou was able to bring a fresh pair of eyes and new options! Dr. Nikkhou was unlike most of the doctors I'm used to seeing. He didn't make me wait a long time to see him. He patiently listened to all my questions and didn't try to rush me. He spent quite a bit of time with me. He didn't jump to any conclusions, but considered all the possibilities. He recommended lab work that was prudent, not excessive. I am extremely displeased with this doctor and his staff. The staff is unfriendly and do not seem to have any concerns about the patients that are waiting in the waiting room. In addition, during the covid pandemic, there is a limit to how many patients can be waiting in the waiting room at the same time, however, there were too many of us waiting there at the same time, which is very concerning. Below is a copy of a fax that I had sent to him on April 20, 2021 @ 10:38 AM.  I have yet to receive an email from him.   This is a copy of the fax that was sent by me to his office: On March 25th, I called your office @ 3:20 PM and set up an appointment with Noemi for this morning @ 9:30 AM. When I arrived this morning, Toni took a copy of my insurance card and asked me to wait.  Your waiting room was completely packed and apparently, you may not only be double booking but possibly even triple booking. After waiting for 30 minutes, I spoke to Kimberly, your office manager, and was told that it may be another 20 minutes or so before you can see me.  This is completely unacceptable and unprofessional.  My time is as valuable as yours and I can assure you that I am just as busy, if not busier.  While some patients may not mind just sitting around forever, it took me almost an hour just to get to you, plus the wait time that was completely worthless. I am very disappointed with your service and the fact that no one bothered to inform me that there will be a long wait.  I had to cancel other important appointments in order to keep my appointment with you as scheduled, but you/your staff failed to contact me to let me know you are running behind schedule. This is the second time this happened as the exact thing happened during my last appointment with you, and I can assure you that this is the last time it will ever happen. I expect an email from you personally with the hopes that you have a good explanation for this.  You have three days to do so.  If I do not feel I received a satisfactory and reasonable explanation, you can make sure to start expecting negative reviews all over the internet.  Your time as a doctor is not more valuable than my time and this is very upsetting. Has good bedside manner but failed to inform me, a woman, that other womanly factors could affect my urethra and whole area down there. When urine test results came back negative he offered no council or suggestion as to what could be causing my pain. He said there was nothing else to check. There was no one else who might be able to help solve my problem. I had the sense to get an appt with my gynecologist who was able to solve the simple problem. Just the fact that he was so narrow minded in trying to solve my problem was so disappointing. He is definitely a urologist focusing on men's issues, without the knowledge of all potential factors that can affect the urethra, nor any help for a woman. read more

Dr Nikkhou was part of the team of physicians who saved my life 5 months ago when I was stricken with septic shock. As my urologist he managed the care of my kidneys thru dialysis (they went from completely shutting down to being back to normal) and helped with my care until he was satisfied that I was strong enough to have surgery on my prostate 3 weeks ago. The surgery was a complete success. He is a master with the Da Vinci Robot! He is a brilliant young man, with a very empathetic manner. His assistant, Priscilla, is the most empathetic and skilled assistant I have ever encountered in a doctor's office. When I told him I wanted to seek a second opinion just to cover all the bases he was completely non-defensive and encouraged me to do so.
