I went in because I had a terrible TMJ incident earlier in 2024. But my appointment was scheduled a…read morefew months out and, by then, it had resolved itself from the exercises I learned online. However, I still went as I read that usually a specialist can determine the cause and recommend ways to prevent it from happening again. With my pre-visit form, they learned that I've been diagnosed with Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) as early as 1997 when I was 25 and 160lbs at 5'9" tall. But I wasn't able to get it properly treated until 2019 after my health really started to go downhill in 2018. I had no idea that this clinic also specialized in issues with sleep due to problems with a person's airway. Since then, I've gone through palate expansion from right after Thanksgiving 2024 to May 2025. And after that I've been continue my expansion with Invisalign. We are basically trying to reverse the damage caused by my previous orthodontic treatments as a kid, which I believe is the root cause of my sleep apnea. It's been going well so far, as I've noticed much easier breathing through my nose, even within the first two weeks of palate expansion. But I still have a ways to go. I'm on Invisalign tray 7 of 22 and then will possibly undergo SFOT and double jaw surgery, as my case is rather extreme. But after each phase, we will reevaluate to determine if those next steps will be necessary.

After searching for a dentist in Vermont, I am so glad I found Timberlane Dental. While I was…read moreinitially told new patient openings for general care wouldn't be until January, they were able to get me in much sooner for an acute issue with my wisdom teeth. From the moment i walked in, I knew i wanted to establish care here. The office is inviting and calming, with separate rooms, ample windows, and tranquil paintings. The entire staff is warm and welcoming. My dental assistant was efficient and we were even able to combine my new patient exam and cleaning into a single visit since I was already there. The hygienist was amazing--she talked me through the entire process, was so gentle that I didn't feel any pain while she was scraping or flossing, and even asked me about college. We established a hand signal as a way to communicate if I needed a moment. My dentist, Dr. Heer, was also wonderful. She gave me a jaw massage to release tension, complimented my teeth, and even joked about me winning an Olympic gold medal after I mentioned my athletic pursuits. After years of dental anxiety, I can finally say I feel completely at ease. I highly recommend this practice!
