Honestly, every time I come here I have a bad experience. The front desk receptionists are rude. Lacks knowledge when I ask for code or help with their online site doesnt know anything. Doesn't greet, today was standing in line no hello or I'll be with you shortly. She was just sitting at desk working on computer. I understand they may be in the middle of something but a simple hello goes a long way. Pediatric Doctors and nurses are the only good part of ryan nena. And you actually get see at your appointment time. Womens health every visit I have waited well past an hour of appt time to be seen. Dr is great but it's not worth the headache. Eye Dr's are great as well, still thru-out the clinic the issues I've experienced out weighs the good and worth while visits. Doctors are nice, but is it worth the wait? If I come two hrs late will I still be seen? It's a shame one department of the clinic ruins it for all. read more

Lovely doctors but one of the worst front desk receptionist to get in contact to your doctor. The receptionist was rude and arrogant when I was just trying to speak to my doctor about an important health concern. I've never felt this isolated to not even be able to get a hold of my doctor because the receptionist refused to transfer me to someone who would assist me. This clinic continues to be my go-to for all things medical and I just added another service to the list yesterday with my first gynecological appointment with Dr. Maricela Garcia (I've been going to a NJ-based gyno for decades but it's getting harder for me to schlep out there and she doesn't take my insurance). Dr. Garcia immediately built a rapport with me, put my mind at ease, and answered all my questions. Additionally, the check-in process was fast and I was able to schedule this appointment through the online patient portal. Will continue to recommend this place to anyone in need. ---- I've had dozens of experiences here in the past 6 years (blood tests, doctor visits) and have nothing but good things to say, both about the facility and the staff at Ryan-NENA. This place is a well oiled machine as far as I'm concerned and runs better than most private offices I've been to during other periods of my life. Everyone I've interacted with--from the front desk receptionist/cashier to the doctors themselves--has been friendly, courteous, and professional. I also love the online patient portal and text/e-mail confirmations of scheduled appointments. Overall, I'm extremely impressed. Four stars because they lost my urine sample twice in 2 weeks one time and their new-ish appointment scheduling system is very user unfriendly. This location refused to honor my appointment made weeks ago for vaccination , any vaccination When I tried to make an appt closer to home Upper West Side and recommended by their mobile van parked outside of the Senior Citizens Center I was referred to this location instead My appt was confirmed multiple times via text and email But These are AWFUL people who after I arrived denied me even the flu vaccination after being told that my oncologist at MSKCC where I am usually seen cannot see me until December and informing me than I must switch doctors to their clinic in order to be vaccinated there. BTW I am 73 y/0 covered by both Medicare and Anthem ( retired NYC employee insurance They also denied me RSV vaccination and Covid vaccine which they lie about having available on there website So I sat in their waiting room crying in despair for over 1/2 hr until my Access a Ride could pick me up I was told they are saving vaccination for their "patients " I was told RSV is "too expensive " for them to give out but I am covered by insurance and did Not refuse to be seen by a doctor ??? read more

This place is great! Everyone is really kind and caring and it doesn't take long to get an appointment. The only thing is you'll most likely be treated by resident doctors (doctors that have recently graduated) and so every year you'll be seen by a different resident. I have been having abdominal pain / pressure for a few weeks. Come Monday morning it was worse and I was worried. I called Callen-Lorde which was full and referred me to Ryan NENA for same day non-emergency care. As of the new year I am without health insurance and needed a place that provided sliding-scale payments. IMPORTANT: If this is your first time there, and you do not have health insurance you will need 3 things to get started. They told me this info over the phone, but incase you haven't called, here ya go. 1. Last 4 weeks of pay-stubs (4 if you're weekly, 2 if you're biweekly). 2. Proof of address (piece of mail is fine) 3. Photo ID I arrived after 10am and was quickly helped at the registration desk. I was registered and given a card which says my max pay per visit. Don't lose this! I was able to get a walk-in visit with Adult Medicine at 11am. They spent a lot of time with me trying to help me figure out what was wrong. For the amount of time they spent on me and the tests they ran, I'd say my max payment of $105 was more than reasonable. I even got a shot. The doctor prescribed me 3 medications, which were filled at the pharmacy next door. I recommend this because they have a good deal worked out with them. 3 medications without insurance totaled $30. The doctor also recommended that I meet with a GYN the next day to rule out anything else, which I did. The GYN the next day was more than helpful and also spent plenty of time with me. She gladly answered all my questions. I was extra impressed by this because I knew she was hungry and had yet to eat lunch (she mentioned that in the beginning when she apologized for her stomach growling). *If you think you have a problem, please don't hesitate to ask the doctor about it. They understand that you know your body better than anyone, and if you think something is wrong it's probably for a good reason.* Overall my experience was great. Everyone I dealt with (from clerks to security to doctors) was helpful and accommodating. No one was rude or indifferent. I'm really surprised by some of the negative service reviews on here. Maybe those were particularly busy days / times. I did go during the day on a weekday which made it less busy. If you're tired of being treated hastily and passively at some of the other clinics that are around the city, I highly recommend Ryan NENA. read more

Worst place I have ever been to in my life. I am usually not a picky person when it comes to doctors, and have no qualms about if it is a male or female when it comes to Women's Clinic. I don't know who I had but she was female, and she was about the most tactless and careless person I have ever met. Even the procedures done were painful to the point of feeling like I was violated, and I have quite a high pain tolerance. Unfortunately, I will probably be coming back here because I don't have insurance and I can't afford health care, so this is my cheapest option. However, the office people and receptionists are extremely courteous (wow! at a Doctor's office???), and when I went to the Eye Clinic, they refunded my money back since they were unable to help me (I needed a prescription for contacts). read more

This place is the worst. It starts with the receptionist when booking appointments. They are very lazy and rude. They won't lift a finger to go the extra mile if they have too. The wait list is crazy and when you go there the first time they do nothing at all just bill your Medicaid and schedule another appointment, even for a cleaning. Horrible service. The doctor I met with did not speak English well, and communication about my medical needs was not understood. I had just been released from the hospital and urgently needed to be checked, but the doctor did NOTHING and said I looked fine. I waited for 2 hours to see the doctor to be told I looked fine. The spaces were overcrowded and appeared dirty. Then, they proceeded to schedule a follow-up appointment without telling me or asking me when I'm available, for FOUR MONTHS later. No, that is not okay. When I called to cancel the appointment, I had to wait ten minutes. Mid-way through cancelling, I was hung up on. Rude, untrustworthy service. I can't give any less than four stars to this place, which has helped me out of a jam more than once. It's really a bitch to not have health insurance, but Ryan-NENA is a clinic with a full range of services that charges on a sliding scale specifically designed for people without it. You just have to register on your first visit--bring in a paystub, they'll check it out and tell you how much you'll have to pay for your visits, and give you a card. I get all my appointments for just $30, and all prescriptions for $7. Unlike trying to get an appointment with a regular doctor in the city, you don't have to wait months to get an appt. And on the whole the clinic is clean and the staff is friendly. All that said, there are definitely some spokes in the wheels over on the LES. I've only needed medical attention twice there. The first time I was diagnosed with bronchitis and asked to come back for an x-ray to make sure I didn't have pneumonia. They gave me a specific day and time to return. So at that time, I trekked over to the far east side in about 15 degree weather, only to find out that the radiologist wasn't there that entire day. Luckily I didn't end up having pneumonia, but the extra trip didn't help. The second time I was preparing to leave for Africa and wanted some blood tests to make sure I had all my immunizations and a clean bill of health before I left. When I got there, all they'd scheduled me for was an HIV test. The good news was the test was negative! The bad news was it just meant several more visits before I got everything worked out. I guess when you're working with a non-profit you have to expect some bureaucratic slip ups. I still love this place for keeping me relatively healthy when I couldn't afford to take care of myself, and I recommend it to anyone else in the same situation. *also I'm not actually the first to review it. The answering service that picked up said they would call me back as the lines were busy and no one was there to help me. Then my husband called about two hours later and they told him the same thing. we called on Thursday the 11th and its Thursday the 18th and still we have not heard anything from them. Why have a call center takes your messages and no one calls you back. This has truly disgust me my daughter will no longer be going back to this clinic ever again in life... Question how do you have a whole practice and then tell me to go to City MD... Before I say more, I will say that the actual doctors are good but every other staff member you encounter before you actually see a doctor is rude, lazy, incompentent, downright nasty. They treat everyone as if they are charity cases. A lot of people have private insurance, not public assistance. My point is that no one should be treated with such contempt. I went to this facility because I live nearby and felt I had the flu. I have visited them in the past but had been a while that I went there. I tried making a same day appointment and the receptionist was so annoyed by it. She asked me to wait for supervisor. The whole time i was waiting I heard her complain about one thing after another. She is not the person to have on the main floor which is basically the place people get their first impression from!! Then after a long wait they called me and told me they have my older insurance information and had a big attitude and almost like demanded me to tell them why I didn't mention it to them. I said I didn't think about it. This was the 2nd receptionist on the same floor, not better at all then the first one! I ended up leaving this place and decided to go to an urgent care instead. I have been here a couple of times before and the doctors are nice but the receptionists are so bad and extremely rude. They seem to be miserable working there, but don't take it out on patients. It's hard enough that they are sick as it is, you don't have to make them feel worse! read more

Upside: a. Very inexpensive- a godsend for the uninsured! Things like x-rays, lab fees, most often included in your visit fee. (not all budget-conscious clinics in the city are so inclusive, as I found out from visiting another clinic, and receiving unexpected bills from labs etc for weeks afterwards.) b.I have always experienced the staff to be very friendly and helpful- which greatly eases my nerves while visiting the doctor or dentist. I've been going to Ryan Nena on and off for a number of years. (I was most disappointed when I got a fancy job with insurance & unfortunately it wasn't an insurance Ryan Nena accepted. Suppose you can't win them all.) I've had numerous positive interactions with staff. I'm had a great level of care. It really is the most cost-effective option to stay healthy for those uninsured in NYC. I also leave confident that my medical record is secure & privacy is kept. The wait is shorter with some services than others, but really is comparable to any other doctor's office in the city. read more

Doctors sent me away saying there was nothing wrong. The next day, I went to a different walk-in clinic where they said I had bronchitis, pneumonia, and an infection in each of my eyes. A friend gave me the name of this place when I was in dire need of pretty immediate medical attention. I walked in with no appointment, having never been there before, and with none of the required paperwork except my ID. I had to pay the highest amount on their sliding scale - which was only $105 and included the visit and all tests. They had no walk-in availability, but had me speak to a supervisor, who listened to what my issue was and put me on the schedule. I was seen within 10 minutes. The doctor then came in and told me that, due to my particular problem, I should see the gynecologist in Women's Health, but that I'd need to wait another 3.5 hours to get in there. He repeatedly apologized for the inconvenience (which was unnecessary - I was just happy to be seen) and asked if that was ok, or if I'd rather he just examine me right then. I opted to wait and see the gynecologist, who was great. She did an exam, answered all my questions, gave me a couple of prescriptions, and told me to call and leave a message with the receptionist if I had any questions or concerns. Over the next few days I called probably 3 or 4 times, and she called me back within the hour each time. Everyone was helpful, kind, and it was as good an experience as it could have been under the circumstances. read more

You have to be a bit pro-active about communicating with them -- e.g., I've gotten x-rays there a couple times and had to check in with doctors who were supposed to follow up with me. But considering how busy it always is, the staff I've dealt are universally pleasant, and the doctors have never made me feel like they're trying to rush me out so they can get to the next patient. read more

I was uninsured for a number of years and this place was a godsend for me. The people in registration are wonderful, the doctors and nurses are very overworked but kind, sympathetic and knowledgeable. I never paid more than $35 a visit for all kinds of tests and x-rays. I'm very lucky that I never waited more than a half hour to see someone, even as a walk-in. There is a wide range of services from pediatrics to geriatric psych to serve the community. I just recently got health care coverage and on their website it states that one of their locations takes my insurance. I was a walk in at Ryan Nena about less than a year ago. I became their patient and been using their services since then. They gave me a scaling fee since I did not have health insurance. I pay less than $80 for each visit and blood and urine test and x-rays are included in that price. So far I have gone to general doctor, gyno and dentist. I have no complaints about their services. Everything is explained to you, maybe in a rush sometimes. They have a pharmacy next door where you can get discount if you are their patient. That came in handy when I had to buy cream that cost $500 at CVS and $20 at their pharmacy(no I didn't make a mistake with zeros). Their whole staff is polite and welcoming.The downside is that you have to wait long for certain appointments, like dentist. But they have a waiting list in case somebody cancels. They do walk-ins. I was a walk-in patient two times and did not wait that long. Dentist take walk-ins if it is emergency only. You can use their patient portal to check, reschedule or cancel your appointments, also check your lab results. Dentists do only minor work-so fillings only, no crowns or root canals. I still paid the same price as I would for any appointment and x-ray is included. read more

I have never been treated like this in my life. I called prior to my visit for severe strep throat .... I asked if they gave antibiotic shots as I am allergic to penicillin but my case was so severe I needed an injection and the z pack I had was not working quickly enough. They told me no problem.... I got here ... Paid for my visit before I even got to see a doctor and then was informed that they only had penicillin shots so my visit was for NOTHING. I had already paid for the visit and received no service from them and they wouldn't refund my money.... I asked every single person I saw making sure I would be able to get a shot again because my case was so severe. They told me all they can do was write me a prescription for a z pack and give me a pain shot ... So I waste of 105 for the office visit because I already had a z pack.
