During our fundraisers (Book Sale and Film Festival) I have taken our brochures to promote the event (we do all the work and as a NP, we give the money away to girls who graduate from local high schools and going on to C.O.D.) During my rounds, the stops that I make find the shop's merchants open to posting and very friendly about it! Along the way, because my grandson (10) is a budding magician, I always stop at the very fun and exotic Magic Shop. The person who is always there is magical himself. He shows the magic to me in the range of what my grandson might like. This week, I finally managed to get my grandson to this magial paradise on his way to his piano lesson there in Lombard!! He was literally spellbound and I had already told him about the fortune teller (for only a quarter) that was there which he had to try right away!! After that, the magical person patiently waited while my never-quick-to-make any decision, selected one and true to form the magical person performed this trick for us and then, in a truly magical moment, just gave it to my grandson. He was so excited that he had to work it on his beguiled grandmother and then his piano teacher was his next willing victim. I'm not big on animal skeletons or skulls (though if you want a stuffed plush kangaroo with a real skull popping out of the face, he's got it), but I do like rocks and he's got some lovely ones - small to medium affordable spheres in various minerals, including some nice chakra sets; little carved animals; hearts, worry stones, marble-sized pendants, etc. He's also got a nice selection of runestone sets and tarot cards, plus a selection of Ouija boards and some little blue evil eye bracelets. The owner is personable and is happy to talk about his stock; I can see how he'd be great with crowds when he puts on his magician hat. The medical oddities were interesting (old patent medicine bottles; sets of what I assume were fake teeth?, x-rays). And if I ever need to buy a tranparent skull filled with what appear to be pickled embryonic rats, I know where to go.

First, Duane was extremely easy to work with, and he was very timely with communication. I never felt like my event was at jeopardy given the constant communication in advance of my event. Day of the event, we had the same balloon artist as we saw at Pinstripes, which was a welcome treat. He was as personable as we remembered, and he provided hours of entertainment for the young children at our event. The only reason I had to give 4 stars was the quality of the caricaturist. It seemed like her MO was to give oversized noses to all the women, and many of the attributes for our non-Caucasian guests made the images unrecognizable. While we understand carcicaturists are intended to be funny and highlighting exaggerated features, some of the exaggerations seemed unnecessary. That said, the caricaturist was kind, just not the experience I was envisioning. Overall, I would absolutely work with Landini again. Prices were reasonable and Duane was very easy to work with!

From Fox Valley Mall into Mish Mash, this place is awesome. The art, digital lighting, signage, and aesthetics are so cool. They did an incredible job with designing it. Mish Mash feels like a liminal space sometimes. I have to dock 3 stars for the complexity of the games, the speed of the games, and the setup of the games. 1 Star Docked for the Setup. The rooms each have a card scanner with a code you enter. That's easy enough. But some rooms require you to push buttons to select teams. Each room handles this differently. It was confusing. Stuff like this needs to be decided outside the room. By the time you go inside the room, you should be playing the game. I don't want to spend an additional 1-3 minutes learning how the setup works. 1 Star Docked for the Complexity of the Games. This makes me sad because the rooms look amazing. The soccer game's fence is too low, so balls ricochet easily. The ropes rooms are too intense for bigger adults, and quite frankly, a liability. The sewer room is a cool concept but way too difficult to climb for adults. The cathedral room we solved, but the game penalized us for not pushing the buttons at the end. We didn't know and the staff didn't give us the points. The biblioteca and crime wall room's tablets froze and we couldn't finish the games. The room with the white cables and colors doesn't give you enough instructions. In fact, please don't give us riddles. Just tell us what to do. I don't want to be even more confused than I already am. Please just forgo the riddles entirely. 1 Star Docked for the Speed of the games. From entering a room to start, the games take forever. 3 minute countdown becomes a 10 second countdown, which then becomes a 10-15 second riddle, which then becomes the room turning on. It's a lot of time docked for just waiting. I was getting impatient. New rooms made me nervous. I'm sad. This place looked so cool. The rooms are beautiful, but disappointing. If I could change mish mash, I would instead do a museum style approach, where the tablets are removed, the magnet doors are removed. And players are instead given an app or a tablet, and each room can be freely entered and played with. And maybe have players solve a mystery and learn to communicate with each other and perhaps with others. And maybe each room has a sort of solution or goal that works towards a greater goal? Or doing a set number of instructions will flash a code that can be used in a phone or tablet to open up more clues or something. That way the whole exiting and re-entering can be alleviated. Either that or take a road trip to activate games down the street and create games that are a little simpler in design. Mish Mash is a good concept but it needs more time to cook. Thank you for the experience, but until they fix things, I wouldn't recommend coming back.

We originally had hired a different DJ for our wedding on 10/10/2020, however they were being…read morereally difficult with adjusting plans due to COVID-19 (they refused to play any music for dancing). We got a recommendation to check out Bash Beats by our venue (The Lytle House), and we are SO glad we got to work with Eric. He was just a true delight to connect with, we had a phone consultation before booking him for our big day. Planning was easy, Eric was very responsive, and we had a final session with him on the phone a week or two before the wedding. Eric explained the steps he was taking to keep the event as safe as possible (ex: extra sanitizing of all equipment such as microphones that the officiant and any guests would be using), and he was flexible and great at listening to what we wanted as well. In terms of the actual day of, Eric was AMAZING. He kept the party going, I don't think I've danced so much my entire life. Even some guests who told me they normally don't really dance at weddings were on the (socially distant) dance floor having a great time - one guest told me she and her partner were OBSESSED with Eric and will likely book him for when they get married in the future. We know our big day would not have been the same if not for Eric, and we are so thankful he was part of our celebrations.
