I brought a small canvas tarp with an 8 inch rip thinking he might be able to sew up the rip or tell me who in town fixes rips. He looked at me and snarled " and what did you drag in here! " I showed him the rip without saying anything . He again snapped " I dont fix tarps" I left without saing anything . This guy has the tact of a caveman. Humiliated at this store. Came in with a custom leather disabled-person's shoe that I needed resoled. First thing I hear is "son of a bitch" as he walks to the counter, followed by "what do you want?" Showed him the problem with my shoe and he just said "I'm not interested in that". Denied service with no reason. Lived here my whole life and never been treated like this at any Helena establishment. read more

I had Ryan fit me for and then make me a pair of custom boots, while I was in Helena on business and had him ship them home to me in NC. They are a very well made pair of traditional western boots and are exactly what I ordered. The quality of the leather is first rate, and they've held up very well. IIRC correctly Ryan sources his sole leather from Italy and the leather for the uppers from South America. As much as I prefer to buy American, leather tanned in the US is almost always lower quality. Die to EPA regulations it is almost always taken on board tanning ships and then tanned offshore using quick and easy tanning methods that produce low quality leather that won't last. read more

Brought in a pair of older Louboutin heels. I had damaged the leather on one heel pretty significantly, and was worried that they may be beyond repair. When I picked up my shoes, I was pleasantly surprised. You can barely tell where the hole was. The repair was very affordable as well. $8 and my loubs look almost as good as new. read more

I guess you can catch somebody on a bad day according to these other reviews, but I would trust Ryan's for any leather work I have. They've repaired shoes, fixed a really expensive brief case, done little repair work, etc. quickly and with reasonable cost. You can't just drop in and have them polish your boots because they're really busy, but just respect the repair folks and they'll treat you right. read more

They completed my shoes by the time they said they would but they didn't bother to give them a quick wipe down.

I should've known better than to have him make me a pair of custom boots when I asked for a snip toe and he asked what a snipped toe boot looked like. I described what I wanted done and he measured my feet and calves. The boots were made and arrived to me in a timely manner. However, while the calves fit well the boots did not fit my feet as they are too small for me. When I called to inquire about the problem he asked, "What do you want me to do about this?". I told him that I wanted boots that fit me properly and that I wasn't wanting a refund. He said he could stretch them. I already them stretched and they still didn't fit. He said the only thing he would do was stretch them. He also told me I didn't know how a good pair of boots fit because I was only used to sloppy Ariat boots, which I've never owned or worn. This left me feeling hopeless about ever being able to wear the pair of custom made boots that I'd been looking forward to wearing. Since then I've had other friends that have smaller feet than me try to wear these boots and they don't fit. I question if these boots were made with the correct measurements. read more
