Even so, we did contact them ahead of time, but no one got back to us. We desperately needed a bike shop, so we plowed ahead and made our way up an incredibly steep hill to their shop. It was closed with a sign on the door saying they are by appointment only and you should call for service. We called and texted, but no answer or response. With no other choice, we had to hobble on with a flat tire, having wasted over an hour getting to Spike's and then waiting there in hopes someone would answer the phone or show up. Terrible.

For our visit, he was happy to adjust not one but 2 trikes so they fit for a trial ride. We rode for like 20 minutes, and came back, then went out to try out another pair. The entire time Bernie was awesome and never pressured us to buy. My first triking experience was super fun, but I went home to think it over. A fancy recumbent trike is a big purchase. Bernie just smiled when we left... I think he knew I'd be back. He was right, and I'm happy I did. My only criticism is that Bernie only carries a few brands. I suspect this is linked to the small size of the shop, and is something I can live with. I'm very happy with my Trident Stowaway. Who are trikes good for? - Elderly people who dont feel confident balancing on bikes, or want the security of adding electric assist just in case - People who never learned how to ride bicycles - Disabled people who need modifications to ride.
