I'm not that bright, and I injured my arm. Normally I'd just stop doing any physical activity of any kind as I healed, but I'm also old now, and need to move around to avoid packing on the pounds. What I'm trying to say is that I took up biking for exercise. I found a couple of beat up bikes to ride, but they needed some love. One tire was about to bust, the other's rear hub was a minor issue and needed new tubes and tires, so I looked around and found this shop. Bike Works knows their biz. It's not a huge shop, but the people are cool, and the mechanics know bikes. They quickly looked mine over, diagnosed the problems, and told me it might be a few days because they weren't sure if they had the right size tires in at the moment, or if they had to get them from the supplier in a couple days. (I don't know if it's this pandemic or if they are always this slammed, but it seems like half the area knows they're the best, because they're busy, too.) Turned out they had the tires, because they called me the next day to tell me I was good to go. I'm no expert either, but judging by the prices of tires and tubes I found online, they didn't charge too much for labor, which is nice. When I have more bike issues, I'm definitely coming back this way. read more

I have bought at least five bikes from them. Each one was fit to the rider with explanations of how things work and recommendations for proper gear. The salesman was never pushy and adjusted the bike several times until the fit was perfect to the particular rider. This would have been a 1 but I have had some good work done here but after June 26, 2018. I figured I'd put this up only because of the excuses I was given. I dropped off a Dyno GT Trick bike in bad need of restoration on 11 June 2018. There was some rust issues BUT the bike was capable of being restored. I asked Neal how long would it take (knowing it would take some time) and he said (7 to 10 days). He mentioned the condition issues and I said I'm not expecting miracles. I just want a bike to give to my Girlfriend's Grandson (6 years old). I asked for a estimate and he said 150 to 200. I said that's fine too. I had no problem with the time or cost. It goes down from here. I called 22 June to check on the bike (11 days after drop off) for a status. I was told then that it was at the top of the list and to check on 26 June. I went in the morning of the 26th and was told its first (or top of the list) and that it would take some time but I must add that when the guy checked the status the look said it all...the "oh its that one". He said come back later that day. I go back to the Bike Works and ask and was getting "This is our busiest season and that's why its delayed. I said it was at the top of the list going back to Friday and I get the same This is the busiest time. I leave but I'm thinking this item will not get done soon and really they don't want (or prefer not) to do what they said they would do. Knowing that and thinking that when they get around to it that it will be a rush job because they want to get it out I decide to take it. I asked to carry it out but one of the guys said I'll carry it out for you and then preceded to say the same "This is our busy period". What blows me away is I didn't nag them like they are pounding it in my head that they don't want to do the job. He also talked about being open for 40 years but most who have bought from the Bike Works remember a different owner who passed away in the early 2000's. He was a nice older guy. News flash. I've bought six bikes from the Bike Works before Auty's bought it but it sure seems that if they were going to claim 40 years then then would certainly take a customer who has bought from the Bike Works. If a Bike Restoration is too much for you just tell the customer and not waste their time. I could have found someone or someplace else. *EDIT* I forgot to add that when I went the morning of 26 June and later there were different bikes in the back getting worked on which told me they were putting it off. read more

Staff very helpful in helping me find the right bike for me. They took the time to ask a few questions regarding where I ride and how often and what I like. After getting an idea of what I'm looking for and my level as a rider (casual, enthusiast at best), they pointed out a few bikes for me to consider. They made sure to go over the bike I wanted to test ride to make sure it was all adjusted and in top order. I feel I was given a fair price for my ancient trade-ins (a mid-80's road bike, a mid-90's mountain bike, and a mid-90's road bike). To make things even better, the bike I chose was also on sale at a nice price. After deciding on the bike I wanted to buy, they were happy to install the kickstand and water bottle cage for me. Never once did I feel I was being pressured into making a purchase, the entire experience felt completely consultative. Although I didn't spring for all the accessories I plan on getting, I will be sure to be back to get them there as I want to see what they recommend. The staff here knows what they're talking about as they are riders themselves. They seem very dedicated in helping people get the most out of their bikes and to make your time enjoyable. I plan on stopping in for maintenance on the bike down the road, as over the years I've heard nothing but great things about their service. read more

We stopped here for an emergency repair while doing the Erie Canal bike ride. We came an hour before closing, with no advance warning, and they solved the problem quickly and inexpensively. Highly recommended for service! read more

brought my bike there 2 weeks ago for a tune up. called twice ,was told 8 bikes before mine, told this past Friday would be done that nite,Saturday latest. go there Monday 6/4 still not done took bike and will never go there again. read more
