Update on my review. Shon came through and kept his word. My daughter is tickled pink. He really is a good man.

if there was a zero star I would have used it. Do not make the mistake of not taking the advice from all the post below. Shawn talks a great game but will lie to you with no issues whatsoever. last year I hired him to move a piano. he showed up and the piano's pedals were missing. he volunteered to take it to his son that worked on pianos and for a few hundred bucks he would clean it and repair it. well after a 1000 bucks in repairs he lets me know the pin board was broke and it was not worth repairing. I said great , give me a refund. Once again he again volunteered a replacement piano as he had a few baby grands to choose from. Here it is a year later and still no piano. he talks a good game , but always has a sad story to tell. he has now forced me to take him to small claims court. By the way he wants everything in cash as well. I guess I will call the IRS as well. bottom line , do not think you will be the exception, he will screw you over. I have now used Shon for two moves and highly recommend him. Here is a bit about my experience: - I called Shon to move my Yamaha grand piano after receiving a referral from a large local piano dealer. Shon was able to schedule me for the following afternoon and quoted a price that was about half of his competitor. (The competitor also was unavailable to do the move for another month.) The piano move included two flights of stairs and a small landing. Shon and his team got the job done in very tight quarters. - After seeing how well they moved the piano, I hired them to move a dining room set and other furniture. Everything was done in a meticulous and professional manner. - Shon is an owner operator. On the two days that I worked with him, his schedule shifted and the time he arrived was different than the time that we originally discussed. However, he kept me informed of his whereabouts and always immediately responded to my phone call. When he wasn't able to answer, I received an immediate text. Frankly, the time of day that we moved was far less important to me than trusting the mover. - Shon knows his stuff. He's been moving pianos for decades and is the guy to call in central Iowa. Be polite. Show some gratitude for the difficult work he does, and he'll treat you like family. read more

I'm not sure what happened to this business as I used them before to move my Yamaha DCG1 with a DKC850 player unit without problems. This time they took off the player unit, scratched the piano in multiple places, incorrectly remounted the player unit so that the sustain pedal isn't hooked up anymore (even manually) and wires are hanging down from the piano all over the place like a giant bowl of spaghetti hanging down, which I've had to try to duck tape to the bottom, since the wires aren't run the way they were before they removed the player unit. Even the piano tuner couldn't believe the state of this piano. At first they said they'd come take a look/fix and kept telling me they'd come at different dates but it's been over a month and now they won't return calls/texts at all. With the holiday season I need my piano working again (the sustain pedal won't even work manually not to mention the wires hanging everywhere/scratches). Hope the owner is ok and all is well, but at this point although I hate to take the time and expense to do this, after a month see no other choice with needing to use this during the holidays than to take them to small claims court to get this resolved. read more

Never use this company for anything. There is no joking behind this keyboard. This was a complete nightmare. I contacted S+P Piano Services a month in advance to schedule a move from Urbandale, IA to West Des Moines, IA (a whopping 6.1 miles). I had purchased a used piano on craigslist.com and it was a surprise for my wife's 30th birthday. During the month prior to the move date, I attempted to contact the owner and speak to him on the phone since I had his business card. He never once answered my call. He would text me back however. Never once would I speak to an actual person. Terrible business practice. Two days before the scheduled move, I happened to have a face to face visit with the owner, Shon Clausen. I reminded him of the scheduled move date. I actually caught him in the parking lot moving another piano into his trailer so I knew for sure his business was a legitimate business. He assured me that he would be at the specified location at the specified time. The day of the move was bad. I arrived on time and arranged it with the owners of the piano too since they had to rearrange their work schedule in order to be home for the piano to be picked up. 4pm was the time S+P was supposed to arrive. They never arrived. I called Shon and no answer. I got the same voicemail stating, "This is Shon Clausen of S+P Piano Services, I apologize for missing your call....." I called several more times. No answer. It was now 4:15. I walked up to the house of the piano owners to apologize and that I would continue to wait a few more mins and try contacting the movers again. The owners of the piano were so kind and understanding. I called Shon a few more times. All of a sudden I get a text message back from Shon saying he is running behind with moving some organs for anther company 20-25 mins away. He wasn't even done with that job yet and was now 25 mins late to my appointment! I text him back asking him to call me so I could speak to him rather than texting. He said he dropped his phone and the speaker only partially works on it. I told him, in all common sense, "hey, can you call me from another phone that works properly?" Still I got no call but more texts. He asked if I could wait another hour and he would be available to move it. I was livid at this point. I walked up to the piano owners house and once again had to apologize and now arrange an alternate date to move the piano and find another company to move it. All that to say, a month long of planning going into a surprise 30th birthday gift for my wife was ruined all because S+P Piano Services has no clue how to communicate and run a business. I will say that I did get more texts from Shon after I told him he lost the job and that I was really upset. He offered to move it for free and pay for the tuning of the piano once it was moved. This was generous but there was no way I would take the chance on trying to work with his company again. read more

We entrusted S & P with our piano back in September of 2016. They could not execute the promised move & took the piano back to their warehouse. Despite at least a dozen serious attempts to retrieve the piano, S & P still has it almost a year later. Not sure whether to consider it lost, broken, or stolen, but the bottom line is that we gave them our piano & haven't seen it since. read more

On Oct. 21, 2015, S&P Piano was to travel to Springfield, MO to pick up a ~6' long baby grand Yamaha piano and deliver it to Le Claire, IA. Quoted as a $900 job. They're first mistake was they possessively left their Des Moines, IA location way to late, so by the time they picked up the piano they had to return to their business location and tell me that they were not going to deliver until the next day. Next day (Oct. 22) we had scheduled a 4pm delivery time to my home in Le Claire, IA. This is where mistake #2 happens, at 3pm I get a text message saying the guys are "running behind and they're 100 miles out". I had an appointment at 5:15pm Oct 22nd and another appointment right after that one, these all were made days before all of these delays with S&P. So they caused me to be late to my second appointment by an hour. Mistake #3: They broke the piano during delivery. They're is a base board that gets mounted to the frame of the piano that has tapped holes in it to mount the rear piano leg to. They split this board in two during delivery and almost dropped the piano on the floor. They tried to say that the board was already cracked before they picked it up in Missouri, but the piano was in good shape before they ever touched it. Mistake #4-6: It's now 12/01/15 and they're has been 2-3 scheduled deliveries of the replacement board they broke and each time they've dropped the ball at either showing up or answering a phone call or text that day to confirm delivery. Mistake #7: Shon Claussen (owner) continuously ignores my calls and text messages to answer when they will complete the job. I bought a house that had a piano left in the basement, after having a few people try to move it so they could have it with no luck I called S & P. I was under a huge crunch because I needed it out so carpet could be installed the next day. They were to be there at 1 they were early and had the piano out and removed in no time. This company cannot be trusted. After entrusting our piano to them, they held it hostage, forcing us to get an attorney to get it back. What they say, and what they do are two different things. After being promised a set of conditions under which our agreement was to occur, S & P failed to honor their word. To make matters worse, the owner refused to answer all phone calls and messages. When the piano finally arrived back to us, there were scratches all over the bench and also some on the piano itself. This experience was a nightmare. It has been over a year that I have been waiting to receive my bench and lid of my piano. He delivered my son's grand piano with scratches and missing parts on March. The service has been horrific and there has been a distinct lack of communication on his side (called him over 50 times without answer) I have seen MANY bad reviews before by his customers and believe that he purposely handles his business like this. He has shown no effort to communicate and help us to solution this problems. NOT RECOMMENDED!!! read more

Tried to use S&P for a grand piano move, and I couldn't even get a call back. I left a few voicemails but didn't hear back. I text Shon and got some responses saying things like "I'm busy but will call you later". I even scheduled phone calls with him, just to get him to call me, but he never responded. After trying (almost daily) for 2 weeks to get a response, I gave up. read more

S&P did a fantastic job moving our 6'3" Baldwin grand piano. Very efficient, careful and professional. Would definitely recommend!!
