Sababa is the first place I've ever eaten sourdough pita. This warm, chewy flatbread was imported straight from Israel and had a distinct nutty, sour flavor that went surprisingly well with their creamy hummus. My pick from the menu was Sababa's Mezze, a wooden board that came with freshly-fried falafels, tahini sauce, fried eggplant topped with amba and zhoug, fried broad beans, and of course, hummus dressed with pomegranate seeds and parsley. And instead of fries, I opted for the grilled cauliflower, which was perfect for dipping into the hummus along with the pita! I also tried the Shawarma Platter, which was a bowl of perfectly spiced chicken shawarma, pickled red cabbage, Israeli salad (cucumbers and tomatoes), a dollop of hummus, and a dollop of garlic sauce (which was surprisingly sweet). All the food here was spot-on in flavor and freshness, though the pita and hummus were the definite highlights for me. The service was super friendly and completely accommodating to all the adjustments I asked for, and within the cafe, there was a shelf featuring a bunch of Israeli products including tahini, pickles, crackers, drinks, and more! read more
