Friday, July 17, 2026, will mark my 2nd anniversary leaving Sabino. I wanted to update my original review. I spent almost 50 years dealing with PTSD I suffered during my teenage years. I was at a point that my depression and anxiety were so high that i could barely function. My mind and thoughts had taken over my life, making me do things that i would NEVER do. I had mental cancer. I came to the conclusion that i needed more help beyond what my Therapist could give me. And I started my search. I looked at so many options, most that prescribed drugs the moment you arrive, and chose Sabino Recovery (prescription drugs were never recommended) and it was the best decision I have ever made. There were other Residents that did what they could just to pass the time and didn't take their recovery seriously, which was very sad. They complained about everything and mostly everyone that complained, did so because they weren't willing to do the work and accept the fact that they needed help. I used to think I could lock up my problems in a box and throw away the key. My self-confidence and self-worth were at an all time low. I made a commitment to myself that I would follow the agenda and do the work. And work I did. I attended every individual or group session, ate the incredible food, enjoyed alternative therapies that I originally thought strange but had a purpose, spent free time with my Resident family (which was therapy in its own way) and opened myself with complete honesty. I remember during a Saturday session in my 3rd week, the Therapist asked the group to name your best friend. For the first time in my life I could honestly say, "ME." As I was preparing to leave after 35 days, the incredible continuing care staff set up a game plan post Sabino, which I followed to a T. I still attend weekly Zoom calls with the Alumni Director for Sabino graduates, who I call my family. And after two years, I attend almost every week even when I'm out of town or even on a cruise. Today, I'm still my best friend and learned to love myself. My past traumas are still a part of me but I don't let them rule me anymore. Sabino gave me the tools and I use them daily as I know I will always be a work in process so I can keep progressing. After two years I ask myself if I still can honestly recommend Sabino Recovery. My answer is a resounding YES. read more

Just to keep this current...Quality of care is poor as well as poor front office and management representation. These folks don't actually care about you, just what's in you wallet. They will spin a story of catered personal care with "a multidisciplinary team of specialists with world-class expertise". This quote is a falsehood. I went into Sabino to address some childhood trauma and they bullied me into an addict role. I spent the last 30 days of treatment lying and exaggerating stories of substance use in order to shut them up. Needless to say it took away from what I actually checked myself in for. This shotty treatment continued by spitting me back out into the world solely focused on a problem I didn't have. Needless to say that was $45,000 dollars I'll never see again...an extremely expensive lesson I hope no one else has to learn. read more

This place is horrific. We were so, so hopeful that they would be able to provide proper care to our family member who had suffered tremendously with addiction and trauma. We read about their alternative methods and their commitment to staying in touch with previous patients. Our family member left this facility with a prescription for the stimulant that she was abusing BEFORE treatment. She relapsed within days of leaving and is now hospitalized. The intake was done by someone without a clinical background (Pierre I think? French name) and he seemed incredibly enthusiastic about enrolling our family member without fully evaluating her condition. She had interviewed with another facility that recommended a higher level of care - not Sabino! They wanted the $$! We're heartbroken. Corruption is so common in the psychiatric world - please protect yourselves and your family members. I meant to add - and these details were only told to us AFTER she left - our family member had voiced hearing buzzing noises and VOICES during a therapy session. Was anything done or did any healthcare professional notice warning signs? No. Did they prescribe her a stimulant instead? Yes. She also developed a romantic relationship with another patient and spoke to her therapist about this. Was anything done? No. An honest facility that genuinely cares about mental health would've realized that our family member was NOT clinically suited for this program. She should've been discharged immediately. But again - $$$$$. Thankfully we have proof of all this and are taking legal action. Just a horrible experience for our family member and our entire family. read more

At the beginning I want to state my name Laura J. Bradley, and that I live at 5654 E. Eastland St in Tucson, AZ in the same square mile where I grew up. I give my address because I am not ashamed to "stand on a hill" shining my light of gratitude for Sabino Recovery and ALL that it did for me. And if someone thinking about going to Sabino Recovery wants to write me to get more information about my sexual abuse as a preschooler or about what I found to be SO helpful in my healing that was launched at Sabino, you may write me. When I went to post this review on the one year anniversary of something significant in my time at Sabino, I saw a review posted by James S on January 15, 2026, a review that--in my opinion--is full of inaccurate statements and possibly distorted by a perspective of someone who did not want to be at Sabino. I am--of course--just guessing about that distortion, but at 77 I have had my share of times where I experienced an unhappy person, and how that unhappiness can warp the lens through which that person sees events around himself or herself. But what I DO want to talk about in my review is what this native Tucsonian experienced in her 38 days at Sabino Recovery. I walked onto my very special place of transformation 1 year and 13 days ago from this posting, and it was the very best decision I have made for my life personally except for surrendering my life to Jesus in July, 1976. Officially I came to Sabino to continue my recovery from opioid addiction by prescription. My body was indeed addicted to opioids--for many years--but by the time I went through detox at Scottsdale Detox Hospital, God was ready to use Sabino to do another long-needed healing in me. The big healing that happened was freedom from a mental addiction: a long-buried shame coming from my sexual abuse at age 4. That crippling shame was smashed apart when I spoke about it out loud in my small group. And that vulnerability would be the gateway for further steps of not hiding that would happen in my post-Sabino journey. The program at Sabino is a great mix of small group sessions with an assigned primary therapist 3 times a week, a one-on-one session with that therapist each week, morning community check-ins, and exposure to a lot of tools so I could discover what is beneficial to me--such as neurological feedback, guided meditation, art, simple dance, Tui Na, yoga, hypnosis, acupuncture, crystal imaging, journaling, rock painting and individual horseback riding. Some very fun parts of the schedule for me are the Adventure courses, equine therapy, Saturday mornings for coffee and food at Le Buzz, the Sunday morning field trips, especially the two hikes the head of hiking created for me because of my limited walking ability, and the Friday night fire circles. There is also instruction in pickleball as well as impromtu games of basketball and tennis, jigsaw puzzles in free time, and a designated gym for those who want to keep up--or start--a gym exercise program. The campus has a sauna and adjacent cold plunge tub, which I highly recommend to any incoming resident. And I certainly want to mention the voluntary early morning hikes in the Catalina foothills that ascend from the Sabino property. Three healthy meals of wonderful food every day left me longing to take one of the chefs home with me! And my chosen three family members who came for the Sunday brunch had the same thought: the food at Sabino is better than most restaurants in Tucson. At age 76 I had never been in a recovery program before, and I was scared to death about what I would encounter. But from the very first day I experienced the staff to be genuinely caring , supportive, non-judgmental, and helpful in giving advice but also offering space when I needed some quiet time to process what I had been through that day. At Sabino Recovery as a resident you are one of a small group being cared for--never higher than 30 but usually around 22--so you get lots of attention from the staff. The residents quickly became a family to me because of the atmosphere created by the staff: the atmosphere of NO JUDGMENT. I became relaxed by my second day. I discovered most of us were in the same "stuck" place. But our being "stuck" maybe took a different outward shape and hue. If someone is wanting to get GREAT professional help to get un-stuck, I could not recommend Sabino Recovery any higher. It scores a 15 out of 10! I say that without hesitation or exaggeration! Knowing now how deep and rich my healing path would become as I continued with my post-Sabino care, my husband and I would have paid much more! than what we did for my "plunge into healing" at Sabino. How much is freedom from old, destructive paths worth to you? There may be other facilities that cost less, but the old saying of "You get what you pay for" is so true when it comes to trauma recovery and addiction, and those are the areas where Sabino Recovery excels. read more

They remove all negative Google reviews. They prescribe inappropriate, outrageous doses of stimulants to patients in recovery. This quack center performs non-evidence based "brain scans" to give patients false ADHD diagnoses and use this to justify unsafe stimulant prescriptions. My friend arrived for treatment of a stimulant use disorder and left with a prescription for Vyvanse 70mg daily AND Adderall 20mg three times daily. That is malpractice. There is clearly a scarcity of experienced clinical professionals on site to properly evaluate and treat patients. Do not send anyone you love to this place if you wish for their recovery and well-being. read more

BAIT & SWITCH - SAVE YOUR MONEY General Complaints - Sabino "We got you" motto = we conned you (take nearly $100k minimum upfront, overcharge even more when on-site, & give you nothing in return) - This place drives sane people crazy - Almost no chance of insurance coverage (they won't help & affiliate takes a large cut if they somehow get anything) - Admissions/sales team misrepresentations (insurance & work leave help, discount, full sleep study, labs, etc. not actually included) - No orientation or tour until 3rd day (and only because I requested), and they were upset & lazy during it - Supposed to have 2 weeks of no phone, but they provided my phone to me on the 3rd day & took them a while to realize they breached the agreement - Overfed buttery, greasy food, then sit around all day - Repeatedly make promises, then no follow through - Push meds on everyone, and overcharge above communicated costs - Nearly every resident leaving told me they were excited to do the addictive behavior (drink, drug, sex, etc.) immediately the night they left - I feel much worse now than before Sabino (besides just being happy to get out of there) Brutal Facilities - Facilities are dated, falling apart, & neglected (AC & hot water heater didn't work, filthy, bugs, water leaks, terrible smells, broken equipment, etc.) - Told "It's not the Ritz-Carlton" when relayed the above facilities issues, then took over a week to even try to fix anything - Buzzing, fluorescent lights throughout - Impossible to sleep (rock hard beds, wake you up repeatedly to be "checked on", paper thin walls - hear neighbor going to bathroom, walking, talking, opening drawers, etc.) Neglectful Staff - Mostly apathetic, unintelligent, disorganized staff (breach confidentiality, cuss, yell, & unprepared) - Even travel nurse & part-time staff complained about full-time staff disorganization, low IQ, apathy, & neglect - Staff knowingly allowed other residents, while at the facility, to do the very addictive behavior I was there to escape - Routinely woke up to staff inside my room in middle of night when sleeping (caused recurring nightmares & even more trouble sleeping) - Requested MRIs for serious health concern before admission & promised immediate scheduling help, but didn't receive MRIs until 4th week & still awaiting results after discharging - No actual doctor on-site - Lied to my family (said I was skipping programming & denying medical treatment, despite actually attending everything & routinely requesting medical treatment) to try to get them to extend my stay (more $$$) (Lack of) Programming - 4 hrs 10 mins of total individual therapy over 35 days - 90% of programming is check-ins (state name, feelings that day, & "fun fact") or other lazy, fluff (read a handout, YouTube video, etc.) - Almost every session cut short (lasts 15-40 mins, instead of an hour) - Messy scheduling & poor communication - Almost zero weekend programming - "Family week" is 4 disorganized days of fluff, besides 2.5 hrs of actually talking with your family (Dad & I bonded over disdain for the lazy staff, unhelpful program, & their refusal to change/update anything) Please go elsewhere if seeking help for you or your loved one read more

Every single person who worked with me was outstanding, great listeners, gave me wonderful tools to leave with, encouraged me and inspired me to fight against and succeed at my recovery in the outside world. I recently checked in at Sabino hoping to resolve some of my childhood trauma. I checked out 2 weeks after being there. The inconsistency around the guidelines and poor facility conditions were very disappointing. I paid 78k for 35 days and checked out after 14 days. They're refusing a refund. I have been to a few other facilities to work on addiction and personality traits so I have a little knowledge and have experienced many hours of high level therapy and therapists. The experience and quality of staff for this level of recovery is at best below average. This starts with the clinical director and downward. I would say besides 2 therapists the rest were unqualified for this level of recovery. If you do inquire and are thinking about this facility, Stay away from there salesperson named Evelyn. I would rather sit through a 4 hour used car sales presentation than to be fed all the lies and her pretending to care. I feel worse now than before I checked in. My trauma response and suicidal ideation is at an all time high. I very rarely post reviews but this is a matter of life and death. My life was transformed during my 3 month stay at Sabino Recovery. I had a difficult time as a child. I thought many years ago I had taken care of the events that happened to me growing up and I didn't think about them as I had buried them deep down inside of me. I thought they were gone and I just had addiction issues that I was unable to control. Little did I know there was a reason why I numbed myself, that there was a connection between my addiction and my trauma. I had no idea I had trauma, I knew that my upbringing was hard but not that it was there affecting me like some invisible ailment. At Sabino I learned a great deal about myself through a very caring team of therapy specialists. In addition to my addiction and trauma I learned that I coped with stress and things that overwhelmed me by shutting down and walking away. At 51 I have spent the majority of my life letting these negative coping skills control my me. I learned at Sabino how to recognize what's happening and why. To listen to my body, feel my feelings and work with them instead of shutting completely down. Trust me I had difficult days while there as anyone would or will but it's a wonderfully caring, safe place for that to happen. In a nutshell I started tearing down the walls of my trauma at Sabino. I have continued the work I started there over a year later. Everyday I use something I learned there. Sabino taught me the tools to actually live my life instead of exist the only way I knew how. I think the thing that surprised me the most during my time there is I learned that I could forgive the people that were suppose to protect and take care of me. This was shocking to me but very important as I learned. The burden of anger and resentment I carried most of my life was ok to let go of. This more than anything changed the coarse of my ability to love myself and be happy. I am thriving and enjoying my life today because of the work I have done through the guidance of Sabino Recovery. Sabino saved my life. I went to treatment 4 years prior to my experience at Sabino at a famous recovery center that starts with an M lol. It was nothing compared to Sabino. Don't go there. My goodness, I can't say enough. My peers at Sabino were saved as well. The few who did not like their experience, as I see some have commented negatively on this thread, had that experience because they either did not truly want help, or they were not a good fit medically. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us, and if they couldn't, that person was not meant to be there. You are not just a number here. This is a trauma facility, not a straight addiction place. If you are just trying to kick a habit, go to the more famous places in Arizona. If you want a specialized, personalized program that will dive into the true root causes of your trauma response, and to thoroughly and fundamentally change, this place is your safe haven. I cried plenty. I had night terrors, running screaming out of my room. But there were peers and staff readily available to calm me and support me. Those freaking nurses. They are there 24/7, and not just to dish out pills. Many a night they saved me. The food is ridiculous. The chefs are a family business, and are therapists in their own right. The money you spend at this place primarily goes to the amazing therapists and staff they employ. The place isn't the Ritz Carlton, but its nice and clean and comfortable. Where they invest is the people who served us. They are selective in who they admit. I made friends for life. We all hung out in the music room and would do karaoke and play musical instruments, or you can chill in the art room and listen to music. There's tons of freedom here. You get a reasonable amount of cell phone access, in the morning for an hour or so, and in the evening. And you get it mostly on the weekends. A warning though, don't get distracted by your outside life. You can vape and smoke in certain areas. They make nicotine runs, including zin pouches. It is remarkable that the executives so have faith in their system that they can give us freedom and be adults, and not treat us like children. Family week is special. The counselor Bri reunited me with my parents. She is special, as are the rest of the staff. She expertly guided us through tough conversations, and we got to the core of the issues in a not awkward way. They facilitate comfort through the darkness of the past, and if you really want to, you can reunite with those who you pained and/or pained you. If I could have only one week at Sabino, it would be family week. Be social. And give back. I had mentors when I got there, and I passed it along and helped the newbies towards the end of my stay. I got more out of it than they did. The Behavioral Health Technicians, BHT's, really care. There's always one around and can be depended on at any moment. Mini therapists roaming the grounds. One major thing that makes this place special is the Hohokam Building, or what it should really be named, The Hippy Dippy Building. Its a mystical place, like doing psychedelics without shrooms. Once a week you put down your preferences of what treatments you'd like - massage, acupuncture, electromagnetic field tuning, all that hippy shit. You have about one appointment a day, and for me, they always occurred when i needed a release the most. EMDR was huge for me. All with just two buzzers in my hand going off with my eyes closed. I cried so hard when I did breathe work. Neurofeedback changed how my mind works, its crazy. And their post-care staff cares so much. Follow their guide for once you leave. They found me a sober coach, therapist, pill doc, sober living, IOP, everything. Follow it to a T. Most doctors aren't taking new patients because of all the demand, but Sabino can get you the hook up. Thank you, Sabino Family. I am 8 months sober and haven't been this happy since I was a kid. I don't use because I have nothing to numb and run from anymore. You set me free. read more

I've been struggling a lot recently so I decided it best to send myself back to a residential treatment center. It was already an extremely difficult situation due to me having a lot of negative past experiences in several other programs, so going into it, I was definitely very hesitant, to say the least. Sabino Recovery looked like everything I needed. Along the journey of applying to get into their program, my anxiety ebbed and flowed as I tried to push past some red flags I saw. I've known the best way to deal with this is to be honest with people, especially mental health professionals so that's exactly what I did. I was extremely honest about my hesitations based on my past experiences with the clinical director, Shara, and the admissions coordinator, Tiffany since the beginning. Apparently too much. I was accepted into their program two days ago after discussing and planning around those concerns. As I was preparing to be admitted into their program in less than a week, I found it very difficult to get information. They had sent me a copy of a 44-page Resident Handbook and a "What To Bring" informational sheet as well and while I was reading it, of course, I had a couple of questions. I started asking Tiffany because I was originally told that they are more flexible with some of the points on the dress code (it was more strict than a high school dress code!). She then proceeded to discredit what I was told previously by saying that they were very strict on it so I began to panic. Based on the code, I would have no clothes that I would be able to wear and I told her that. I am a very modest dressing person! Anyways, I digress. I also had a few other questions and be that Tiffany was not able to answer them right away, and the fact that I felt that she wasn't quite able to give me the correct information in a caring way(she had a bit of an attitude), I decided to ask if I could speak to someone else about this issue. I was very honest with how much anxiety it was giving me and how much I still wanted to try their program and I kept advocating for my needs so I wouldn't change my mind about going. We figured out that they were not as receptive or honest as we had believed as my mother promptly got a call saying they had rescinded my acceptance and decided to decline me. Their reasoning was that I was too hesitant to be in their program(because I was asking to speak to someone that could further answer my questions) and no longer thought their program would be a good fit for me. I normally do not like writing angry customer reviews but I felt this was completely unfair as, after their verdict, they completely blocked me out and would not give me even the slightest feedback as to why they had declined me. I am flabbergasted at how any treatment center, which is supposed to help and understand what's behind the worry and hesitation one has, could just completely stonewall you after going through this painful two-week decision-making process. read more

through a series of events in my life - I began drinking too much and friends knew I had to get support and treatment. Sabino gave me the structure, time, and tools to figure out solutions on my own. they do not take a one treatment for all approach knowing that trauma comes in many forms and behavior triggers can be complicated. Their staff is compassionate, inquisitive and well prepared. The facilities are amazing and you are not released and forgotten. The follow-up has been outstanding. Sabino Recovery saved my life. After researching several facilities, I decided on Sabino, who are experts in the field of trauma work, any kind of trauma. Sabino is like a family type environment, with a limited number of spaces, and you are not a "number". Located in the beautiful mountains of Tuscon, Sabino is a serene and safe place for those wanting to recover from trauma or addictions. The staff is incredibly supportive and compassionate. The facilities are clean and comfortable, and the food is 4-5 star rated, the chefs are INCREDIBLE!!! The program includes doctor visits both medical and psychiatric, nutrition, boarding, group and individual counseling, art therapy, rope course work, equine therapy, walks, workout room, neurofeedback, EMDR, and somatic experience. There is also a basketball court, pool, bikes to ride, and optional weekend hikes. Each day is tailored for your specific recovery. I recommend Sabino to all for trauma survivors. While it is expensive, it is worth every penny. You are investing in you!! And you are worth it! Now, 10 months later, and continued hard recovery trauma work after departing Sabino, I have completely healed from my trauma. I didn't think it was possible. Thanks to the intensive work and committed staff, they aided me getting back on my path. I have found a whole new life and it will stay with me forever. I only wish all trauma survivors would find Sabino to change their lives forever. I will forever be grateful and have such gratitude for all the open, warm, caring hearts at Sabino. read more

Just a little over a year ago I was a resident there. It was an experience that if I had to do it again I would. The staff is amazing, the hard part is leaving them. Just returned for the reunion and it was great to see old and new faces. If your looking for a place to get help I highly recommend going there. I have heard some horror stories about other places people attended until discovering Sabino. There is nothing to be scared or afraid of there. They got you!! read more

I would not recommend Sabino for anyone under the age of 25. In a desparate attempt to seek help for my 20 yr old son, I was quickly encouraged to get him on the next flight there, following my $30K wire transfer of course. Once there, my son was isolated and miserable. There were only a couple of residents there his first few days, and no one else for the bulk of his stay. After several failed email attempts at reaching someone who could give me an update on his progress, I was notified he should return home immediately due to having "maxed out" on his potential there. I was told he was pleasant and not at all disruptive, but they felt he would not progress. This was one week prior to his scheduled exit, which is a huge chunk of time considering I paid $30K for 4 weeks. Additionally, I had to cancel and rebook his return flight at my expense. The last week, of course, was non refundable. I feel he should have been permitted to stay out his time regardless of their opinion that he'd maxed out. Shortly after his return home, I began receiving multiple emails and voice messages requesting help collecting "remaining funds" from our insurance company. I eventually received a "demand" letter threatening a law suit and requesting funds I never received from our insurance company (which I proved were never received). Additionally, there was zero follow up on my son's progress and he is none the better for having spent 3 weeks there. In my opinion, Sabino is a money hungry establishment. read more

Until I decided I was willing to go to any lengths to stay sober and learn healthy tools to cope with my fears, I did not begin to heal, be present, and live life on life's terms. SR provided an amazing foundation to my recovery process. During my stay as a resident, I met some of the most loving competent compassionate recovery staff and the most trustworthy safe fun group of residents, I could have ever imagined. I was able to be my true self without feeling as though I was being judged. SR's program met my needs beyond expectations. Was everything perfect every moment of my stay? Of course not. But, it was perfect enough that I miss (just about) everyone I encountered, the daily therapies/activities, and the facility itself almost 2 yrs later of my stay in 2016. Again, SR helped lay the foundation for my recovery (with individual, small group therapy, alternative therapies: EMDR, somatic sensory experience, massage, yoga, equine, and the list goes on). It was then up to me to make a decision to continue on my journey of recovery and practice what I had learned at SR. I am proud to say I am more comfortable in my own skin then I have ever been in my life. SR was truly the jump start I needed to stay sober, save my life, not injure another human being's life, mend relationships, and go to sleep at night/wake up without paralyzing/crippling/debilitating/agonizing fear of what lies ahead. I went through an extremely difficult rough patch shortly after leaving SR. I called SR asking for help. The CEO returned my call almost immediately with suggestions of how to proceed and move forward with my recovery. I took his suggestions to heart, and acted on them immediately. The staff has been by my side, when I've asked for help or wanted to make a connection ever since my stay. Honestly! ! I am still in contact with many of he residents that I met during my stay, with whom I'll always consider a part of my extended family no matter what. The SR staff and residents know a huge part of me that most others don't. They have accepted the good and not so good. Again, SR is not a instant/quick fix. I had to want to stay sober and healthy. So, I continue living with a daily personal recovery program that works for me. Much of it includes things that I learned about myself, from others, and from the multitude of therapies at SR. Recovery is a daily part of my life, and I embrace it. Everyone could be in recovery from something. SR is my place where it all began. And, for that, I will always be grateful. read more
