PARENTS, BEWARE. I don't know all the fancy horse terminology or the ins and outs of horse care, and quite frankly, I shouldn't have to. These are simply my observations. When you pay professionals to teach children around 1,000-pound animals, you trust them to know what they're doing and to take safety and animal welfare seriously. What I witnessed at Saddle Ridge made me sick. While my child loves many of the horses she got to experience there it is clear that the dollars we spent were not being used to take care of those horses that clearly worked very hard. Some horses appeared extremely thin and exhausted while still being used for lessons. Several appeared to limp or just look uncomfortable while moving. Again, I'm not a horse expert. I can only describe what I saw with my own eyes, and it was concerning enough to make me question what I was being told was "normal." And then there is the FILTH. The barns and pastures were absolutely disgusting during my experience. Mud and manure everywhere. The barn has white walls that only make the brown splatter and stains covering portions of them even more noticeable. Those brown stains appeared to be old, built-up feces and manure that had been left to accumulate over time. I genuinely don't want to know how long it had been there. And the flies were completely out of control. They were everywhere--swarming around the stalls, walls, manure, and animals. The sheer number of flies was impossible to ignore and made the already filthy conditions even more disturbing. And the smell. The ammonia odor in areas of the barn could practically knock you over. This is a place where animals live and children spend significant amounts of time. How anyone walks through that smell every day and considers it acceptable is beyond me. Rodents were not an unusual occurrence either. And somehow, the facilities for the PEOPLE weren't much better. The bathroom was disgusting. I understand that this is a barn and nobody expects a luxury restroom, but there is a huge difference between "it's a barn" and basic cleanliness being ignored. If this is the standard for an area specifically meant for customers and children, it certainly doesn't inspire confidence about the cleanliness of everything else. Then there is the constant staff turnover. This place seems like a revolving door. Instructors and employees come and go so frequently that at some point you have to stop wondering what is wrong with all these employees and start wondering what is wrong with the place they keep leaving. That should concern any parent. Children need consistency with the people teaching them, especially in an activity involving large animals and real safety risks. When a business seemingly cannot retain staff, customers deserve to ask why. What bothered me most was realizing how much trust customers put in management simply because we don't know any better. Most parents aren't horse professionals. We're relying on the people we're paying to educate us, not take advantage of what we don't know. My advice to other parents is simple: DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Visit other barns. Ask questions. Look around. Smell the barn. Look at the horses. Use the bathroom. Ask how often the horses work, how they're cared for, how long the instructors have been there, and why so many people seem to leave. You don't need to know horse terminology to know when something doesn't look, smell, or feel right. I would not trust this operation with a child or a horse. BEWARE. read more

WHOSE BARN IS IT ANYWAY? As a beginner, this was a shame. I would have (prior to this experience) recommended anyone to SRRC, and often did. Now, I wouldn't recommend this barn to anyone because I had a contractual dispute regarding a lease with Teicia Walker and Marc W. This led to being unceremoniously blocked and then banned from the barn based upon lies and carefully worded threats framed to the barn owner, Gina. (I was paying $550, while another lessor paid $275, others less so- all the while I had to purchase move-x injections, food, made signs for dietary restrictions, always brought fresh nutritious snacks, pampered the horse every time I was there, stayed long hours to prepare him for shows where I wouldn't be showing him, and obtained my own tack trunk, investing in the horse I loved so much). I wanted to resume lessons with another trainer after a time, and Gina allowed me to book. I received a call back from Gina shortly thereafter with an elevated and disrespectful tone stating she doesn't do drama-- I didn't call with drama, I called to book a lesson. Essentially, I was told that if I were to return to the barn for lessons, Teicia would remove her horses from there, which would then lead to a loss of revenue. I was taken off the schedule (sounds a lot like extortion). Is it Teicia's barn or is it Gina's? The inability to discern why, when I had done nothing wrong and only tried to right the course to train with another trainer after a cooling off period, and on the original horse I had trained on previously, I was still told no unless things were worked out with Teicia. There was no working anything out with Teicia as she had been busy defaming my character and making up ridiculous lies to justify removing me from the barn. I wanted to go on days she wasn't there and just leave afterwards, even this was not considered. This is NOT the barn I thought it was, it is only suitable if you enjoy drama, enjoy being defamed, and having your character assassinated because you would not remain silent while being ripped off. I'm so happy to have found this barn. Everyone is incredibly welcoming and they have so much to offer. There's a variety of amazing trainers to choose from that suit every goal and personality. The facilities are clean and well organized. There's a large range of horses that challenge you at every level of riding. IEA team- they have it, shows- everything from schooling to A rated, clinics- yup. They teach REAL horsemanship! They have working students! It's a real barn where they teach kids (and adults) in and out of the saddle. It's a really great barn. read more

My mom takes lessons here and loves it. I've gone with her a couple times. If you own a horse, you can make arrangements for him/her to stay here and they have different options for caring for the horse. If you don't own a horse, you can take lessons or ride one of there's no matter your experience level. They have a few different areas for riding both inside and out. I had a great time going for a ride down the trail outside with absolutely no experience. The horse I was riding followed the guides horse so I pretty much just got to enjoy. read more

I had a great experience there for my first private lesson. As an adult with no previous riding expierence and a not so small fear of heights I was very happy with my experience today. The staff was very friendly when I called the make the appointment, they took my information and advised me on riding appropriate attire. When I arrived I entered the office and was greeted by two adorable office dogs (major bonus) a very handsome German Shepard and a pretty black and white collie with bells on her collar The front desk lady knew who I was when I walked in (considering I hadn't been there before I appreciated the personal touch) and helped me stow my bag and scarf and get my helmet fitted (they have helmets there for use) I filled out some paperwork and a few short minutes later I was meeting my instructor Sarah, and my horse Milo. Both were amazing! Sarah was super patient with me, she walked me to the practice area where other horses and trainers were teaching young riders. She showed me everything on the horse (saddle, reigns, bridle, stirrups, etc.) before explaining the proper way to mount Milo. I'm afraid of heights and I'm ditzy in general but she was super patient with me. Sarah's patience and expertise knew no bounds- she guided me through my lesson and explained how to steer, how to stay calm and balanced, and answered every question I asked with as much information as possible. When I expressed a fear of falling (again, scared of heights) she told me she would catch me, it actually really relaxed me that she said that. Also, when I dismounted not so elegantly from poor, patient Milo, Sarah actually did catch me! I slid off but I staggered backwards and she kept me steady from falling on my keister! Definitely went above and beyond for a 30 minute training session and I really made me feel at ease; if I ever go back I'll make requests for both of them again! I would give this place zero stars, if possible. This place was dirty and disorganized and the people were rude from the moment we walked in. The instructor Jeff was horrible-- yelling and badgering one of the riders we were with for the entire lesson. My daughter was taking a lesson next to her and came away so stressed after hearing her friend being treated so terribly for a half hour. Additionally, the horses looked unkept, the bathroom looked like a crime scene and the rest of the facility was really run down. Avoid, avoid, avoid. read more

I've been going to Saddle Ridge for so many years now for the trail rides. It was always difficult to sign up for lessons due to my schedule but I very much appreciate the availability of the trail rides throughout the summer time. I love riding and this is the perfect dose. The staff there is so friendly and whoever is guiding on the trail makes you feel so welcome. The trail is so secluded from the rest of the world so it feels like a mini getaway. The staff makes sure that you are always safe or never in danger on the path or from the horses. Pricing is very reasonable for an hour trail ride. I highly recommend regardless if this is your first time or if you've been riding for your whole life. Iceman will always be my favorite but I love each and every horse at Saddle Ridge. read more

There are MUCH better riding facilities out there than this one. School horses are overworked. One of the lesson horses I rode on, I was the horses third lesson IN A ROW. It was summer and she was dripping sweat. No break in between. Most of their school horses are slow and tired (probably from being used so much) The condition of the barn is not great. Turnouts with mud and rocks...stalls and barn needing some TLC. I would not board my horse there ever. Their new indoor ring is probably the nicest things about this place, however it is always crowded inside with not much space when a million people are riding in there at once. Outdoor ring is nice, but could you a dragging once and a while. Other indoor is terrible, dusty, dark and small. Customer service isn't the best. If person is upset with you they will cut you short onto phone and hang up. Your lesson with said trainer can get changed last minute and put with someone else pretty quickly without checking in. Most trainers (not all) are just on their phones during lesson or chatting in the corner with other trainers...Save your energy and go somewhere else. It is not worth it. Kids that work there are not the nicest to deal with either. It's a hard pass. read more

Saddle Ridge was recommended to me last summer when I returned to riding after a 10 year break. I take lessons with Hannah, who has been incredibly helpful in getting me back to cantering and jumping like I used to, and improve my form. We went to take a beginner lesson and the mean instructor Jeff started yelling at my daughter from the beginning of the lesson and this happy girl who loves horses and wanted to be near them came out of the lesson crying and traumatized. Purchased a LivingSocial deal for $59 for a 60-minute trail ride for two. I was really excited and wanted to love this place but was disappointed. They aren't well organized and the ride just didn't feel safe. There was little guidance, barely any instructions, and no demonstration from our guide. She put us on our horses, told us to place our feet in the stirrups and that was that. I might recommend if you're an experienced rider. Otherwise, steer clear especially if you're looking to take kids. Their safety precautions are questionable. read more

Be careful booking a lesson or ride with this organization. I would give this place a 0 if possible. Here is my experience: Tried getting to speak with someone to book a birthday surprise for my wife and give her a couple of horseback riding lessons. I had to phone a few times before anyone picked up but got someone and gave them my credit card. They booked me for one lesson to start. This place is about 30 minutes from where I live so I headed out about 45 minutes to be there on time. I get to the place and the person tells me that I missed my lesson. I told them that I was actually 15 minutes early and I have confirmation from an email that I am on time. They then told me that the lesson was cancelled and that all people who had that instructor were notified. I was not. No email no phone call. I have to tell you the person was very rude and I would never give my business to this place and recommend if you are looking for a place you look elsewhere. read more

Amazing facility! I began riding here in 2018 and right from the start everyone was so nice. My first lesson I was actually running late due to dead stop traffic and they let me push my lesson to later and still gave me my full time (without making me feel like an inconvenience might I add!). The barn has grown quite a bit over the years with more clients, staff, and equines, but it still holds that family atmosphere. They also offer a working student program for riders to work to earn lessons (a fun experience for those who want to spend more time with horses and saves money). terrible customer service. the instructor celeste seemed to be irritated by something from the very beginning. during my lesson she spent more time texting on her phone than looking at me riding. when i asked her the same question twice she started raising her voice at me. i can not believe they would keep such obnoxious, rude and disinterested staff. someone like her should not even be near people. she should keep her personal issues to herself and not take them out on the customers. read more

Very disorganized birthday party. No one running parties. Asked for help five times before they sent someone outside to tell us what was going on and the guests were staring at each other for fifteen minutes. Decided to take out more ponies ten minutes before ending with 20 kids. No paper towels in bathroom. No garbage cans near tables outside. Called to complain. No call back. My daughter has been riding at Saddle Ridge and training with Hope for 2 years. She started with lessons, went on to lease one of their horses to boarding our own horse there now. Gina, the owner and entire staff are wonderful and attentive to everyone's needs. There are plenty of opportunities to show both on property and off if you're interested. I never worry about the safety of my daughter or the care of our horse at SRRC. It is a special place with something for all levels of riders. Would highly recommend Saddle Ridge!! read more

Have been a boarder since 2006. Great quality care with great hay and high quality feed. Daily turnout and horses always have access to fresh water.. Buckets are cleaned daily and stalls as well. While I live in Franklin Lakes, I own my own business in Park Ridge. Therefore, it's a short ride to this stable so I used to go there often. Until they hired, Madeline, don't think I'll be back. My children and I took a trail ride with Madeline, who should have be a well trained guide. Having the safety of not only myself but also my two young girls on her hands could have been tragic. First her attitude is awful, no personality, inconvenienced by taking us on a $60 each trail ride. Never have I been so disappointed in a guide!! She didn't even check our saddles or make sure my stirrups were correctly fit. My children's saddles were loose and she could care less, when I addressed it, she gave me an attitude like I had no idea what I was talking about however, I have been a rider for many years. If I hadn't got off my horse and fixed the saddles myself, my children would have been injured or worse. Madeline should NEVER be a guide! You need to know how to ride NOT BE ON YOUR CELL PHONE with clients and have some sort of personality. I am also writing a letter to the owner. I live in the area and love coming here but not with the guide, no way!!! People for your own safety and a wonderful experience in riding, never let them give you, Madeline. read more

Took my 5Yo daughter here this morning for her first riding lesson with Danielle. The staff were all very friendly and Danielle was amazing with my daughter. A few of the other older riders (probably between 9-12) all stopped to say that my daughter would love it here and they'd been riding for a couple years and the instructors were "the best." I have been riding at Saddle Ridge for 4 years and couldn't be happier. The trainers are all very experienced and qualified. Saddle Ridge is a very welcoming place and it has become a second home for me. From when you first get on a horse to when you are jumping 3 foot jumps everyone is there to support and guide you along the way. Some of my friends board horses here and are very happy. I lease a horse and it is a wonderful thing that this barn offers. The amount of opportunities this barn offers is also amazing. They have shows at least twice a year and even have their own show team that travels out to shows. The staff is very kind and after your first visit you will feel like you are part of the Saddle Ridge family. read more
