This was the biggest joke. I had someone come out to just "give an estimate" to hang my TV with the mount I already had in a new home, and have the wires behind the wall. Showing up late, AFTER the multi-hour window we agreed upon.. the technician took a brief look and told me this was an "all-day" job and quoted me $2,200. Also $600 to examine the power from a single wall socket. This takes literally 5 seconds with the right tool!! Jaw dropping. I used a different electrician today, who did the job with a coworker perfectly in ONE HOUR and charged me $400. I've never felt so ripped off in my life by an estimate (from Safe and Sound Electric). And wasting half of my work day for it. Do yourself a favor and stay away from them. I am extremely happy I found Safe and Sound electric! I am a new homeowner so their safety check was just what I needed. We found tons of safety concerns and were able to resolve many of them on the same day the check was conducted. This gives me great peace of mind. Diego was the tech assigned to my house and I really appreciate that anything I need down the road will always be taken care of by the same person. Diego is very skilled and hard-working. He is patient and explains everything thoroughly to me. He goes above and beyond to make sure I am happy and projects get done while staying within the budget. One of my major projects is replacing my electrical panel. For this larger project, I had three different companies come to give me quotes. One never returned my call, one came to inspect but then never followed up with a quote, and the last gave me a quote. It was a comparable rate as Diego quoted us for but the tech was less friendly, less understanding of our concerns, and I'm sure it doesn't come with as much attention to detail as Diego will deliver. Amy in the office is always kind and responsive. They go the extra mile to work with my schedule and update me if sooner slots open. They did good work and they were very nice. But the pricing structure was super annoying/absurd I overloaded an outlet, it popped and it wasn't the breaker. I told them exactly what happened when they came out and asked them to look at the outlet. They told me they needed to look at the whole house and do a diagnostic (for like $199) and I was like....alright. But can you start with this outlet where Im having a problem. The poor tech was trying to figure out how he could follow their fee structure (he had like a booklet with it all listed out) and give me the most reasonable service. We finally agreed that he'd check the house and fix the outlet (which needed to be replaced). Ended up being ~300. A normal electrician wouldn't have had to waste all that extra time that I ended up being charged for because the tech couldn't just look at one thing. read more

We had a bathroom vanity light that need to be replaced. I purchased the new light myself and contacted Safe and Sound Electric to install. They were pretty responsive and charged a $79 dispatch fee just to come look at the issue (even though I already told them what needed to be done). Also, they wouldn't tell me over the phone what their standard rate for replacing a light fixture but since it needed to be replaced I decided to go ahead and schedule the appointment. When the the tech came out to replace the light, I was informed that it would be an additional $131 to replace the light, so a total of $210 to replace one light fixture!! Since the tech was already there and I was already invested with the $79 dispatch fee, I pretty much had no choice but to just get the work done. What really bothered me was that they were not willing to be up front about their basic costs which would have helped me to make a better decision in hiring them, and I feel like they did it on purpose just to get the tech out and then be able to charge a higher fee once they were on site. Lesson learned: only work with contractors that offer free estimates! read more

I can't, but blame myself for contacting this electrical contractor. Like others, I was advised they would charge me fees just to come to our home to look at a kitchen pendent fixture which probably just needed a new transformer @ under $50 cost. They send us a young polite, but very well trained in up sale. Instead of looking at the fixture problem, he needed to check the current in every room, then check the electrical panel which he advised me needed to be updated with a new modern unit. Then upstairs in the kitchen, still before he had looked at the fixture, he advised me the inspection would be at least $304, and that I needed to sign papers and present him with a valid credit card. He has now been at our home, taking pictures, seeing almost every room and spent 45 minutes and still not checked the fixture/transformer. At this point I realized, I would be better off hiring a real electrician who fixes the issue without having to suck a few hundred dollars out of the homeowner, before even looking at the job. Many contractors will come and fix these issues without having to pay up front for sure. WARNING! Check your contractor ahead, but do not sign into anything ahead of what they are there to do!! All my Realestate and Greenwich friends will be put on notice of this consumer trick! And about the Five Star reviews? Very Over Priced. We have used them quite frequently over the years since Hurricane Sandy. Great work, but very over-priced. Recently they installed 2 outlets in the master bedroom. They charged us $2,000.00 which was down from the original quote of $3,000.00. My husband, an architect actually told the electrician how to access the electrical and the best way to tie-into the existing electrical. He was here for a total of 3 hours. Do the math. Almost $700 an hour. We won't be using them again. read more

Their response time was great. However upon arrival I was charged a $365 diagnostic fee vs trying to be sold new switches which were easier for tech to install rather than correct the problem. In the end ok, but would have cost 180 per switch to program for auto on/off. Ridiculous pricing. I felt I was being upsold rather than focusing on getting it right and doing what customer wanted. We needed a cable line installed on the second floor of our condo. What we thought would be an easy task ended up being quite complex.When the electrician saw that installing the cable would require several cuts in the wall to snake the cable, he called in John for a second opinion of the plan before moving forward (which we greatly appreciated!). We decided to move forward with snaking the cable and the electrician did a great job carefully cutting the holes to cause as little damage as possible. At the end of the job he carefully screwed the cut drywall back in place, was true to the quote, and we had TV in our living room - overall it was a win. However, when we went to patch the holes we noticed a small nick in our water pipe in the basement where the electrician cut the drywall. Luckily it was only a nick and it didn't damage the pipe - but it sure was a close one! In addition, at the end of the job when we were taking care of the bill the electrician told us that the job should have cost more money, which, as a customer with a credit card in hand, we weren't sure how to respond, it was just a bit awkward. It's only a small thing, but it's the small things that stick with customers and create repeat business. I would still use Safe and Sound Electric again and would recommend to others, but we would likely request a different electrician on their team. read more

Called asking for a ballpark figure on a standard repair- replacing an electrical panel. I was told, "we don't do that."meaning give a price over the phone. I am buying a home and it came up in inspection. They would not even give me a vague, ballpark cost, saying they had to come out. I know this is not true. I have all pertinent information including a vivid photo and was only looking for local ballpark pricing as to negotiate with seller. I do not yet own so I cannot have someone "come out to give an estimate". What I have found in the past is that when companies do this they either charge for the estimate or it gets padded into their fees to other people. This is just my experience. Certainly not looking to find out which it may be. John, I understand your point, however, this was to replace an inside panel, 20 breakers, in a townhouse complex that you may very well have worked in. This is not some odd thing that would need troubleshooting. It is a standard replacement and I was asking for a vague general figure. read more
