Set in beautiful countryside, this well established high ropes adventure course is a great laugh for those with a head for heights. A series of rope walks, ladders and other obstacles starting out at 45 feet and reaching a height of 70 feet and finishing with a zip-wire back to earth. The guys running it were very good attentive, friendly and patient. The safety brief was more than adequate and the equipment good quality providing you with a sense of being safe at all times. The only drawback was that there were no toilet facilities not even a portaloo which for people who are nervous and may have driven a long way seems a little shortsighted. However there are lots of trees to go behind!

It's in a lovely and relatively…read moreunvisited part of Wales, although the shores of the lake can get busy in summer with walkers, cyclists, bird watchers, people sailing and even horse riding. After heavy rain, (quite likely in this part of Wales) there are some impressive waterfalls which feed the lake at various points - and when full, the roar of water cascading over the top is very impressive in itself. It's Severn Trent's largest dam - when full, containing over 13 billion gallons of water. The village which was submerged was called Llanwddyn. The church, two chapels, three pubs and the houses of over forty families were demolished and a new village built just down-stream. It is said that even the bodies from the graveyard were relocated. The new village now makes much of its living from tourists who visit the dam and lake.

A remote and tranquil, place to visit. Besides a nature reserve (there are many hides around the…read morebanks), it is a beautiful lake where you can admire the views, have a picnic (there are several designated sites) or even walk the 11 miles all the way round if you're fit enough (I'm not)! Good for cycling too. The 19th century stone dam is the first of its type in the world - it carries water over the top instead of in a low channel. There is a road bridge along the top which is never busy with traffic, so it makes a nice stroll. This is one of the 'controversial' Welsh reservoirs where the water actually travels to England - in this case, Liverpool. The Welsh residents in the village were forced to move to another site!

The red route is sufficiently challenging for a couple of loops if you've got a spare few hours. The trails hold up well even in the bad weather which is great when the local trails are too muddy to ride. The cafe is great for a post ride meal - especially the burger. Apparently they serve the best breakfast in Wales..... Car park is £3 which goes towards the upkeep of the forest and trails. Definitely a great trail centre for beginners through to seasoned riders.

You will find that it is actually quite interesting visiting the sit of a mine even if you are not normally particularly interested in that kind of stuff. There are special events here for kids throughout the season. There are also many nice walks around the area. They have a little shop with sweets, gifts and drinks. Popular with the kids and nice if you want a typically welsh souveneir.

They have a bridal shop, a little food shop that sells gorgeous homemade welsh ice cream. They have a little home store with loads of cute girly stuff for the house. There is a cafe or a restaurant where you can have lunch. You can also get your hair done there as the have their own salon.

An unsung gem of the Welsh countryside (you'd be amazed how many people haven't heard of this place…read more- don't remain one of them). Park up at the visitor centre (£1) and take a long relaxing walk along the dam's retaining wall - with picturesque views down across the lower valley - or for a much more enriching experience, park on the access road on the other side of the reservoir, which you'll find by taking the B4501 from Denbigh. Apart from having access to the forest walk, there's a plethora of Bronze Age remains - cairns and burial mounds, and a ritual temple - to be found on the well-signposted archaeological trail. Interestingly, only 20 people were ever buried at this location during a 500 year period. You eventually work your way round to the visitor centre, housing a free interpretative exhibition, with a handy cafe and a toilet complex, attached. Whatever the weather (and we've been there on the wintriest of days) it's a fascinatingly eerie (drowned villages always are, somehow) and beautiful spot.

The roadway around part of the Llyn makes for easy walking for beginners but for the more adventurous there are plenty of other pathways too. A great place to cycle too if that's your bag.
