There is a lot of walking around to do and beautiful waterfall area for hiking about (but you must be careful). The owners are terrific and deliver firewood to your tent. The beginning of our camping here was terrific, again before school holidays started. On our last night it was the beginnin go school summer holidays and it got quite busy so if you want peace, go midweek. Will definitely return.

Its a small family run site you drive in pitch your tents and the farmer will visit you to take payment (£6 pppn and £2.50 for kids) you can camp right on the river and wake to find dozens of small wild birds cheekily after your toast. Its close to some fantastic clean welsh beaches. Take a walk in the awesome mountains, sail lake bala then come back to your tent to a good oldfashioned campfire. I'm converted Iwill be taking my kids here every year from here on in!!

It's situated in the U-bend of the…read moreriver and this is a real bonus for children and adults alike - take a rubber inflatable along and drift downstream from one end of the campsite to the other - it's very shallow so perfectly safe (although the water is cold having comes straight off the mountains!). You can fish in the river too - although I didn't catch anything. It's a great child-friendly campsite with a large play area and the facilities are excellent with washing machines, fridge, excellent showers and a great cafe/small restaurant on site too. There's also a small shop and the site backs onto a garden centre so you can browse for plants too. It's very well located for Snowdon and Caernarfon.

Situated right…read morealong the Shropshire Union Canal, the outdoor seating provides an excellent spot to sit and enjoy the sunshine while watching the canal boats cruise by. On top of this, visitors have a direct view of Peckforton Castle up on the hillside. The downside to this pub is a combination of poor service and low-quality food. The menu gives the impression that they raided the local grocery store and put it all on the menu. When asking about the day's dessert options, you'll be overloaded with about 15 different cakes and then ice cream, of which they only carry Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry. No idea whether it could be local, such as from Cheshire Farms, or just some generic brand. I have been here on two occasions, both were beautiful days and a great chance to sit outdoors along the canal. However I have been underwhelmed by the service. If this place made an effort (landscaping, service and food-wise), they could be an excellent place for lunch or dinner, or even a drink.

Don't mind if I do…read more It was a little late in the day when my friends and I put together our annual camping trip and before we knew it we were stuck with only the first weekend in September. Camping in September? Well it's worth a try, we'll just need plenty of warm stuff and a strong constitution won't we? It was then that I remembered something from back in my Girl Guiding days - you can camp in barns! Camping barns are pretty much just tents made out of stone, with a roof, with a flushing toilet and a sink if you're lucky (and yes, Alstonefield is a lucky barn). The ground floor of this one has one big communal room with wooden picnic benches and a cooking platform and the whole upstairs is for sleeping. No beds, just a wooden platform. Luxury it is not, but utterly beautiful, rustic, quiet and homely (in its way) it sure is. The barn is literally in the middle of nowhere (though there is still some phone signal), with nothing much around for miles barring the farmhouse at the other end of the dirt track and the myriad sheep and cows. There's no electricity but plenty of nooks and crannies for candles. We were mildly unsettled when we arrived mid-afternoon and could already see our breath on the autumnal air, but this gave way in the evening probably through a combination of the candles, the humans, bringing the barbecue inside and the ever present and loving beer jacket. It wasn't half as cold as we thought it'd be - especially for a clear night. We had plenty of space to cook, eat, drink, dance, sing and shout. Camping barns are a bit of a revelation for me. Warmer and (slightly) more comfortable than camping, with no crouching, no damp, no trekking to the toilet block, no falling over guy ropes, no packing away the canvas in the rain, no neighbours. but still with all the good stuff, the great outdoors, the roughing it, the hanging out with your mates. You can rent the whole of Alstonefield for £84 for the night - it fits 12 people (it's £7 each). What a way to spend a weekend! Just bring your woollens in case.

Your typical Blackpoolesk place on a smaller scale. You can ride small boats on the lake and there is parking close by but this can be limited. During half terms and school holidays there is usually a fun fair on in the car park so you may have to park out of the centre and walk in

There is plenty of space, you can have a campfire, it has a lake, and the toilets are decent. The shower block can be a little chilly but this site feels a bit wilder so this is to be expected. There is boat hire and barns can also be hired for stays and events.The staff are friendly and the vibe onsite is good. I've been coming here for 12 years and hope to do so again, many times into the future.

I've been visiting this camp site for over 22 years and always had a nice time here…read more It's a very basic place, with one small toilet block and a couple of showers but it's cheap! It's not far from Bakewell (2 miles) and a nice drive into Buxton (10 miles) and there is a pub in Monyash that has an outdoor childrens play area and really nice meals (2 miles) The campsite is fantastic for the kids as it is quite far from the road and you can let the kids roam and play without worrying about them wandering and there are some woods that the kids can explore in and enjoy themselves. At the far end of the camp site is a family only field that tends to be nice a quiet (ish) as the groups field is further away. In all my family love to come here, relax, walk and play and it's greta value for money.

Can get noisy at bank holidays but generally quiet and safe for children to play aound the site. They even have shetland ponies for the kids to stroke. The toilets and showers have recently been refurbished to a decent standard and is ongoing with its improvements.Nice and friendly owners. Tree swing for the kids which they seem to enjoy. Nice views of Lathkill Dale and pubs in the nearest villages of Over Haddon and Monyash. Bakewell three miles from the site and Buxton 10 miles from the site. Matlock and Matlock bath within easy reach as is Chatsworth house and Haddon Hall.Tissington trail not far away. Definately worth a visit. Good value for money.

Birmingham one side and nice rolling green countryside everywhere else it's a great spot to pitch on for a family break. Site is definitely biased towards caravans with a number of new hardstanding pitches. Tent spots are limited to one field which has a bit of a slope to it, or a lower area with a series of dips (an old strip farming site). We pitched on the later, screened at the back with a hedge, easy access to the amenities. Having booked well in advance, the staff worked hard to keep four pitches together for our group despite a packed out for the bank holiday
