I hired Safe Family Connections during a time when I was going through a challenging custody and divorce situation. Until the matter could be resolved by a judge I was only allowed to have supervised visits with my young child. Safe Family Connections was extremely professional and ensured that all rules were followed to ensure the visits went well. I chose Barbara Kelly because of the positive Yelp reviews. Ms. Kelly found methods to report derogatory information to the opposing party without even the courtesy to notify she was doing so. It seemed she had made it her mission to see to it the opposing party prevailed in court. The damage her actions caused the minor in question is substantial. I leave mostly rave reviews on Yelp. With profound sorrow and disappointment, I am afraid I cannot give a rave review for Ms. Kelly. You might find no better option: this is a material possibility. Or, if her centralized location is simply irresistible, then at minimum proceed with extreme caution. For instance: Secure assurances that if you terminate services, she will immediately cease launching correspondence to the opposing party. read more

No one ever plans on circumstances like these. I can't stress enough to any parent how important it is to carefully consider every step you take in this process. The choices you make (attorney, supervisor, etc) can dramatically affect the outcome your case. I spent six years fighting for my daughter. Almost a year of that was spent with Barbara at Safe Family Connections. I got to know her very well and vice-versa. Barbara is a child advocate first and foremost. She is well versed in the nuances of the court process and extremely professional. Down the road she was called to testify in court. On that day, I arrived to find her waiting in the hallway outside of the courtroom. Despite not being in contact with her for a couple of years - her testimony was accurate and succinct. She came prepared with reports from my visits that she used to recollect and describe the relationship I shared with my daughter. I was very impressed. In hindsight, some of fondest memories I have of my daughter were spent under Barbara's watch. She is genuine and sincere and I feel that had a great influence on the dynamic between myself and my daughter. I know that Willa came to like Barbara a whole lot too. She treated me as a mother and that meant a lot to me. It's expected for you to feel awkward about having to have someone watch you with your child...you get used to it quickly. The setting is very natural and low key. Her rates are reasonable and competitive. She is flexible with scheduling and was a welcome "go-between" communicating with all the parties involved successfully. Somehow she managed to achieve things that I could not when working with the other party. I also requested that Willa be dropped off ahead of time and pick up was the same routine only reversed. I can't say enough positive things about Barbara and Safe Family Connections. If you are seeking supervised visitation for you and your child - this is definitely the place to do it. read more

My experience with Safe Family Connections was completely disappointing. As custodial parents in domestic violence situations, we are unfortunately dependent on third parties to assist us with keeping our children safe during visits with the other party. The objective of finding supervised visitation is to find a neutral professional who will keep your children safe at all times and follow all Family Code Provisions. I found Barbara to be extremely biased and constantly making exceptions for the non-custodial parent. If I voiced concern, she would simply state that as a professional visitation supervisor, these decisions "were at her discretion". I don't know if this woman is easily manipulated by the paying party or swayed by the money she collects from visits, but I believe she favors the non-custodial party. Isn't it interesting how all of her 5 star reviews were written by non-custodial parents? Barbara did not follow Family Code Provisions nor follow her own policies (that she makes both parents review before signing a contract with her) during visits. This is especially disturbing to me as she was aware that there was a DVRO in place and of the factual findings of child abuse in our court hearings and DVRO trial. Based on the nature of the child abuse alone, she should have taken more precautions during visits. I also found out from my ex-husband that Barbara stated to him during the first visit that she absolutely did not believe that our children had experienced any child abuse. As a visitation professional, this is an extremely inappropriate thing to say and proves that she had no intention of providing a safe environment for my children. I will never use Barbara again nor will I recommend her to anyone needing supervised visitation. read more

Barbara is excellent. She took into consideration both parents point of view and was just keeping the kids safeguard in mind. She was very unbiased and professional. I would recommend her to anyone who needs supervised visitations in their new life journey. She advised me and my ex-wife on what to do as we hurdled over each new stage of our supervised visitations. Each new month, brought more court dates for us, which made situations change at times. She adapted perfectly and guided us through. She was a very good team player. She even made sure that we had supervisors lined up when she was not able to attend due to her surgery. She was amazing. She was up and walking a week after her surgery, and was there for me and my boys. We didn't have to stay at a supervised visitation center, she hopped in the car with me and my boys in their car seats, and we went to different locations all the time. It was such an amazing fun time. My boys got really attached to her as well. She Is very well respected in the Contra Costa County court system, and it was such a pleasure to work with her. I was extremely disappointed to be placed under professional supervision but now feel very fortunate to have been under the watchful eye of Barbara. As a father who was placed in a situation to defend his innocence from false accusations that could jeopardize his time with his kids, I was of course very worried. However, over the course of the last three months, I have come to appreciate Barbara's devotion to making sure I got my fair share of time with the children. I chose Barbra and liked that she had plenty of experience and sounded super professional . Upon first sitting down and meeting her I was pleased and comfortable to what she had to offer for both my sons dad and I . I was the parent being supervised due to the court still investigating my case . She was super understanding and did not side between him and I and both made sure the father was not near me due to the restraining order . My son was comfortable , his dad and I were all comfortable going with Barbra .
