In 2023, I heard about Guideway from a title company (who would not help me) when my mother passed away and I needed to get the deed/title for home changed as her successor trustee. The process was smooth, clear, efficient, and less expensive than I expected for legal work. In 2025, I remembered my good experience and contacted Guideway again. As successor trustee of a different estate which includes a house that is not paid off, I was asked by the mortgage company for proof that the trust was still valid. This trust is from 2017 and had no connection with Guideway. I was at a loss about what would prove that the trust was still valid; nothing had changed. I was so happy to reach Ian Duncan at Guideway! He knew what I needed immediately, told me what it would cost (once again, not much!), and shared clearly what the steps would be. I work full time and don't live very close to Walnut Creek, but we were able to do everything online. Ian also took my phone call when I had questions (some of which were more like irrational worries), and talked me though my concerns and what the options were. He was so clearly experienced, knowledgeable, professional, and also warm and understanding. His patience showed no end when I asked for a small follow-up revision (out of my own caution, likely unnecessary) on the document. He quickly revised it and sent it to me within hours. I had paid off a loan that I secured by x amount of acers of land. And yes sir, the title company was worthless to assist. I called a friend that does loans held by promissory notes secured by land. Months ago I realized it was time to review financial plans. I learned we were holding title to our house the wrong way to avoid probate. So I needed to change the grant deed, but was worried about property tax reassessment. I called numerous attorneys, all of whom wanted to charge thousands for an estate plan. In 2014, I would've given 5 stars to Guideway for its work on my living trust. The price was affordable, the staff professional and attentive, and the document flawlessly done. Fast forward 11 years to 2025 and the terrible experience of having this company make amendments to my trust. The fee was shockingly overpriced--indeed, almost the same as for the original trust. And the absurd price resulted in sloppiness--getting my daughter's name as well as her home address wrong, really?--with nary an apology when brought to their attention. To cap it off I had to sit through the notary signing with a haughty staff who lacked any social niceties. I'd suggest staying away from this company. read more

Excellent service, quality of documents at a very reasonable value! I first did my divorce and child custody docs through them and it was quick and painless. Was able to get what both me and my ex wanted in the docs and through court without having to step foot in the courtroom. I also just did my trust through them. Super fast and easy and at a very good price! One thing I'll note is to make sure to read the first version of the doc carefully and make any edits you need. They do a really good job at it but sometimes you need to make sure it's what you wanted. Revisions are quick and easy too when you need something changed! read more

I had California Document Preparers (now Guideway) prepare my documents for an uncontested divorce plus a joinder for a QDRO (QDRO itself prepared elsewhere), circa January 2021. It was affordable and one year later I am satisfied with the work they did. Thank heavens it all went through and I am happily and legally divorced. But the service I received left some major things to be desired. After being meticulous checking over the forms that I and my ex submitted to Guideway, we ran into issue after issue with their processing of our information, production of filled out legal docs, and treatment of us. First, Guideway claimed there was a "fatal flaw" in our forms; after some back and forth they admitted it was their website that had a problem. Then, they took our inputted information, and then filled out legal forms with numerous typos, including name mispellings, omissions of required fields (like addresses and income), etc. And they sometimes failed to respond to requests for updates; I would give them a week, then follow up with a second email, and only then receive a response. All of this carelessness forced us to repeatedly edit Guideway's work, and indeed, their policy states that they are not responsible for errors in their own work. I remember, clear as day, when I finally got our agent on the phone, and she was hostile toward me. She said her dyslexia was why there were so many typos in our paperwork (which hadn't existed when we submitted them), and that I was overreacting. I had merely asked her to double-check subsequent forms to prevent new errors from being introduced. The repeated name misspelling felt like a slap in the face. I eventually gave up complaining because I wanted the divorce to be completed, much more than I wanted to be right. I presume this wasn't Guideway's first rodeo with divorce papers, but boy, the attitude I received on the phone from them made me feel better about my divorce--because I wasn't divorcing Guideway themselves. Given that their service, for a basic divorce with few assets, cost $1200, it may in fact have been a good deal. But I cannot in good faith recommend this organization to anyone looking for help with legal paperwork who wants to decrease their stress. read more

Terrible customer service. I went to Walnut Creek Office to get a notary and I was told there were no appointments available. I asked to make an appointment, and the person in the front office told me to call and make one. I asked if she could help, and she said I would have to call the staff in the back room of the office I was at. Literally, there is a wall separating me from the staff and that I was supposed to be calling. She was completely unwilling to assist me or let me speak to scheduling staff. I was going to use this company for my living trust also, but No Way!!! I stated that she was providing poor customer service and that she could care less. read more
