I am sad and mad that this is the closest grocery store to me. I usually avoid going here because they are always mobbed being the only grocery store in the neighborhood since QFC closed. They are also woefully understaffed. I had to pop in for 2 items at 5:30pm tonight. Only 1 check stand open with a line 5 deep. The self checkout stands had 2 messy lines snaking down the aisles. I chose to be patient and wait in the 1 attended check stand. Thank the sweet Baby Jesus another cashier arrived to help and I was next in line and got to move over. I will be contacting Safeway corporate management to let them know this store needs their attention immediately. read more

I'm a regular shopper at Safeway in Seattle Wedgewood neighborhood. Recently they implemented this policy to check everyone's receipt. It was barely tolerable because it's kind of demeaning, but OK I learned to live with it. However, most recent experience made me really angry. I was in line behind this older gentleman who decided to complain about his purchases, so instead of sending him to customer service the checker decided to conduct he is own "legal services", which created a huge line. When I asked the checker if he can mark my receipt, since he's not really looking what was purchased, I was rudely told to go back in line and wait until his done. I waited another five minutes, and handed him my receipt and left the store. He continued yelling at me while I was leaving. I'm not going to be held hostage at the Safeway Store for the purchases I legally obtained, that should not be legal. Very unhappy with experience. read more

It feels genuinely bad to shop here unless you get a really good deal in the app (which was rare). An employee literally hit, not brushed but hit, my feet with a broom without warning when i was trying to get a box of donuts, zero apology after i asked him not to hit me. If you have cash and are clearly in line at one section of self checkout you'll have multiple people telling you to use the card-only checkout. They occasionally allow marketers to clog the entree or entirely block the sidewalk, and the employee smoking section is right next to the sidewalk. read more

Never received any type of email/sms/pigeon notification that the prescription had been filled and was ready for pickup. In fact, a day before the fill date, this pharmacist strongly suggested I go somewhere else to get my medications. I tried changing my pharmacist to Costco in Lynnwood. It was the pharmacist at that location that told me the script was filled elsewhere. They couldn't see where, but I knew it was this annoying Safeway at 35th and 75th. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid. read more

How did we end up with a parking ticket for going to Safeway? I guess they are trying to manage parking by punishing customers. Well, good news is that they have at least one household of customers less to worry about now and they can use our parking now. They appear to use a parking management company that gives you a ticket if anyone in your vehicle goes to one of the other stores. We were trying to be efficient, but our 5 minute stop to pickup some quick household goods at lunch has taken up quite a bit of time trying to dispute the lousy ticket. read more

This is one of my go-to grocery stores but the parking lot seems to always be full when I come here - that or the design of the parking lot just makes it seem like it. In the evenings you can only use one entrance/exit and there are often vagrant folks outside. I haven't had any issues here, but it isn't my favorite Safeway in the area. I prefer to visit this location during the day if I can help it. The produce section is a bit lacking at this store, as they don't have a very large physical space in the store to put it all in. Luckily if they don't have something I need there is another Safeway a few blocks west on 75th and Roosevelt. read more

This is an older Safeway and I agree with the other poster about the produce. I don't remember ever seeing actual rotting food, but it doesn't generally look too appetizing. I like that it's not usually as crowded as some grocery stores around here so I tend to go there when I'm not looking for produce. I now get organic/local produce delivered through New Roots Organics, but before that I tended to go with either the Safeway on 73rd & Roosevelt, PCC on 65th & 40th, or Trader Joe's on 45th & Roosevelt. read more

This Safeway is such a let down. The lady at the prepared food area is usually rude and gets upset when I want to check out there after grabbing just food from her area. The restrooms are absolutely disgusting. There's a deadly virus going on and that bathroom smells like urine and they had poop splatter on the walls. They were out of paper towels and they don't have any type of checklist on their door showing last time it was cleaned. I've used it a few times and it's always in the same condition. Eww. Rotten produce. I came here hoping to start a wonderful grocery store relationship. Boy was I wrong. First stop, produce. Every tomato was either on the verge of molding or full on fungal. Not cool. It was so gross that I skipped all the produce. And I used to work ER people! I can handle gross, but this, *shudder* Everything else was just sort of a blur after that. I was able to get the rest of the items on my list, which was good. But left without any fruit or veggies, I was sad to know I had to take another trip somewhere else to get these items. And the parking lot was nice and huge, except that the person who parked next to me last time was an asshole. I sure do love when a parking lot is empty and you have to park next to the only car and block their side in so they can't get their infant in the car. Real cute. Wrong person to do it to though. I use to come here because its close to where I live for the next month as I travel for my job. Checker who was very heavy set said Hello to the woman in front of me. When I smiled, thinking he was going to say hello to me he said NOTHING. No hello, No did you find what you needed, No Nothing. Basic customer service that is selective by this checker. He looked over my head to not make eye contact and said nothing to me the Entire time during my check out process. As I grabbed my bags, he said hello to the man behind me and started conversation. There was only one difference between the three of them and myself. I am noticing this area of Seattle has RETAIL RACISM. I am going to continue to see if more businesses are like this in SEATTLE. My money is as good as anyone elses. My money helps pay your wage. My money helps to keep you open. I can choose to go elsewhere and I have. Another problem is that they are not pulling expired food. I purchased food that expired way to fast and when I started paying attention to expiration dates they had expired foods still on the shelf for sale. read more

You know, if there is anyway one has a choice about where they can shop, choosing this Safeway is nearly masochistic. once again, I've gone in with a straightforward mission and I've left wanting to start smoking again out of frustration and general bewilderment . How they stay in business is a mystery, I'm sorry to say. I had to purchase one item. one. I considered checking myself out but saw a clerk I liked and who I've had good luck with before. this time the Safeway checkout trackpad wasn't working and it was an obvious problem that no one but the kind clerk seemed to care about fixing. When it was time for me to enter my information, the customer before me hadn't finished so I had to finish for her, but the pad wcouldnt respond to touch by finger. Finally found after both of us pecking away in vain, that the digital pen did. But it wasn't working well enough for me to check out ,still. I went through the usual "cash back", etc, prompts and finished. I'd thought. then the clerk started assembling a stack of cash, oddly. The woman behind me asked if I'd wanted cash back, and no, I didn't and hadn't. I never authorized that money to come out of my account. Suddenly I hear a manager insisting "we have to give it back"! You HAVE to take it". Repeatedly, ok, I get it, but did he? I'd had nothing to do with it. I know, no big deal, but on top of every other disappointment there, I had to laugh, just because I only wanted one simple thing. No one mentioned when they were going to fix this problem, no apology, no validation, and it just bugged me , why 60 bucks, why not 6000, or 6 dollars? it had zilch to do with anything I'd entered. Even while "pecking in vain", there was nothing to do with an amount of cash! Now I'll have to find an ATM I can re-deposit the cash Safeway decided to arbitrarily remove, just classic. Gotta love the immediate blaming the customer, too. Stuff happens, I think they'd do better with honey than vinegar. Plus, wont all customers want a check out pad thing to respond to touch? Just tell us. I'll try the other option next time, but I like engaging with humans, my bad. Tell us what's going on next time. I would like to make a complaint regarding the pharmacy at my local Safeway. This is the 2nd time in 2 months that I have had problems getting my rx filled. On Thursday my Dr sent the rx to the Safeway pharmacy and instead of them calling me to tell me that they don't have my medication in stock I find out when I call to see why I haven't gotten a message that it is ready to be picked up! This is not acceptable. Last month I called in for my refill 7 days before I needed it, they had 7 days to tell be the medication was out of stock and not expected anytime soon. I waited 5 days to get a call that it was ready for p/u a week before I called to check. Today I called 2 days after a new rx had been sent and it was the same story. Now here it is Friday evening and my Dr won't be back in the office until Monday. This is a medication that can have serious consequences if I run out. I will no longer get my medication filled at that pharmacy and I filled a formal complaint but I feel strongly that this kind of thing could have serious ramifications if the medication was something insulin or blood pressure medicine. Much of the Wedgwood neighborhood is quite elderly. It's charming and sweet the way that the businesses still reflect this demographic. Corner hardware stores, mom and pop restaurants, and little craft shops abound. That said, I like my grocery stores to have all the modern conveniences - good lighting, wide aisles, organic produce, and fancy wine. I'm a stuck up little brat that way. More than a year ago, I visited this Safeway and was put off by the peeling vinyl floors and the astringent smell of cleaning fluids. Blech. But, Wedgwood is getting more young people who are picky and snotty like me. Kudos to Safeway for noticing the change in the tides and updating their store. The new lighting makes even the diaper aisle look fabulous. The organic food selection has grown. And the wine looks very fancy, indeed, on the shiny new wooden shelves. Four stars for bringing my suburban housewife grocery fantasy to life. read more

The front end at this Safeway is terrible. I've lived in Wedgwood for over 6 years and the last 2 I will do anything I can to avoid this place. The front end manager is the straight up devil. An older woman with medium length hair. She is so rude it's crazy. One time, in between shooting me icy glares in complete silence, she actually threw my groceries down to the poor bag boy who looked really confused and sad. When I was pregnant with my daughter she once refused to even respond to a "how's it goin?" How is this person in charge of anyone?! As a general rule, their checkers are rude and dismissive or just stressed except for one tall guy probably in his late forties who is awesome. Maybe the front end manager just hates me specifically, but her demeanour and lack of professionalism is really shocking. The produce section is good, and beer/wine, otherwise avoid feeling awkward and angry and just go to u village. read more

I live on the same block as this store and I'm in there frequently. I called the General Manager, Juan, because my Amazon package was delivered to the store instead of the locker outside in error. When i asked Juan if my packages were there he was extremely rude to me and told me I was out of line by my request. When he realized that i'm a private individual and not a company, he tried to be real nice real fast, but his true colors had already been shown. Dear Safeway, I would like to compliment you on your staff. Assistant Manager Kristina was great. She was covering the bakery at the Safeway 35th Ave Seattle store when I came in on Friday morning 5/21/21. I was there to pick up my order of a dozen apple fritters which I had ordered on Wednesday. I informed the staff that I was there to pick up and then waited and waited. I then repeated my request to another staff member who then telephoned the bakery but no one answered. Eventually, I went shopping for other items in the hope that my order would be ready when I returned. When Asst. Mgr. Kristina became aware that my pastry order was missing, she tracked me down in the store and explained what had happened. Unfortunately though, she said she did not have a dozen apple fritters left but she did come up with a good customer satisfaction substitute solution. Although I did not get the full dozen apple fritters, she did make me feel that Safeway values each customer very highly. She went the extra mile for her customer! Thanks! read more

I'm a fan because I happen to live within walking distance of this place and it's my "oh crap, I need more butter/egg/flour/sugar/etc" stop while I'm baking up a storm. Oh, how many times have I had the boyfriend rush to Safeway to buy my missing ingredients, I don't even know, but I'm always thankful for this place being there. My childhood Safeway... although I spent a lot of time here in my youth [I wasn't a hoodlum who hung out there -- I just liked being the fat girl who bought secret bags of potato chips her grandma couldn't know about, okay?! :( haha] and still end up shopping here on occasion when I'm too lazy to walk further, now when I'm stuck housesitting for my g-ma I trek down to PCC or Metropolitan Market [not having a car = not having many options] -- or if I'm there for the long haul, I'll make an AmazonFresh order. There are so many better alternatives to this Safeway. After getting followed down the beer aisle by the florist staring at me [blatantly], while I was getting a six pack of pansy Mike's Pomegranite Lemonade at 11am -- totally got the vibe that they thought I was an under-21 class ditching shoplifter and made me feel really uncomfortable [which I'm sure would deter someone who *was* an under-21, class ditching shoplifter!] -- but I just kept going and glared at her as I handed the cashier my ID. Yeah, I'm mature. This experience, combined with mediocre produce and refrozen frozen foods [wtf :(] puts this Safeway in my super-rare "1 star" category. read more

This is my go to grocery store. They have friendly checkers and most every thing I need. Since it is a bit smaller, they may not always have certain items but it isn't a problem for the quick stop before dinner. Cheaper than QFC for sure. And get a Safeway card, you can get such good deals especially if you load digital coupons to your card. I second Erin D. about the butcher. Super friendly!! read more

I would rate this Safeway between 2 and 3 stars, though I'll round up to 3 as there's nothing really *wrong* about it. It has the basics, but is small and the selection is consequently limited. It used to feel pretty depressing inside but it's better after their remodel a few years ago. I feel like I always need to pay close attention as I'm checking out to make sure that produce codes and discounted items are being rung up correctly. The parking situation isn't ideal. The lot is steep, and it can be difficult to turn out of the lot onto the busy 35th. We'll stop by this Safeway if we're nearby (usually after going to the Northeast Library), but the University Village Safeway is a lot larger and has a bigger (and flat) parking lot so we usually go there instead. read more

But the overall Wedgwood store earned a "3" due to poor attitude among some staff. Example: One cashier incorrectly kept arguing about the spinach percent in a bag of ready-to-eat salad -- all over a 50-cent sale discount. Hope the staff mentioned above will offer some courtesy training. read more

When I started this review it was four stars - I loved my little funky local Safeway, especially many of the people that work there. Unfortunately, a lot of them have left and I had been seriously underwhelmed with the manager there when I went in to complain about the construction way crazy freaking early in the morning (and often really late, and by the way, also totally illegal). He totally blew me off. The manager of my apartment building, tried many many times to get them to stop construction at times like 5am, and finally had to get the police involved and threaten to shut them down. The produce there has always been terrible. Even now, when they are trying to do major rennovations and totally not caring that they are pissing off the neighbor, to fancify and make it all swanky, the produce is still often terrible, poor selection, rotten, or not much of it avaliable. They tried a "gluten free" section, but it is miniscule and all by one not very good company. The seafood/meat section often smells rotten, and makes me want to gag when walking through it. The selection of other items is small, and often very unhealthy - ridiculous for our neighborhood! The ONLY reason I still go here is because I literally live right next door, and some of the checkers I like are still there. Although apparently many of them have left because working there was a nightmare, or so I've heard through the grapevine. Safeway, I hates you, and now I go out of my way not to shop here or at any other Safeway. read more

Always long lines. Rude staff that talks back to you. Especially the bald teller with the pony tail who is extremely unhelpful or the woman at the deli refusing to let me taste more than one cold cut. Seriously?!? They always seem to run out of stock on pretty much everything and their produce is low quality. Pharmacy is small so their stock is also limited and you often get better luck going to a different Safeway. They often drop the ball, making sure your prescription is there on time. Can't really understand how this place allows itself to be like that with so many other grocery stores in the area. I will not visit there again. read more

Remodel will be done by August 2011, updating the store and adding bakery and pharmacy departments. (Maybe ditch the little florist between the bulk foods and eggs section?). Store will remain open during the remodel, with hours limited sometimes, so I have to +1 star Safeway for finally paying attention to our store. read more

Sorry but my store just lost me as a customer. Let me tell you what happened. One of the store's managers today took it upon himself to tap and point (while glaring at me) to move to another check out line. Apparently ASKING the customer or talking to me like I am a human being is now too much. But this is not the first time this guy has done such behavior before. About two weeks ago he told me "You have to move to THAT line over there" instead of asking me to do so. Maybe I am in the wrong caste for him to feel the need to ask me to move. Frankly I don't care. I wrote a letter of complaint to the regional offices in Bellevue since that behavior is simply wrong. read more

We used to live right across the street from this Safeway and it served its purpose OK. It's small and doesn't have the selection other Safeways have but it did the job while we lived in Wedgwood. I think this Safeway is excellent. They are overachievers in customer service, but it's cool because it starts to feel like a second home. They make sure you find everything you need and I love that! I like the remodel they did last year, so now it looks a little classier (to compete with the nearby mega QFC). This store is pretty well stocked, if not, they are there to help. read more
